I've used the Denon DCD-600NE CD player for a month and am very happy with my purchase. I bought it a bit hesitantly because the NAD C 538 I was considering was unavailable for months due to supply chain shortages and some of the reviews here hinted at quality issues. In the month I've had it, I've been pleased with the warm sound of this player, the solid construction, and its ability to play CDs that skipped on my old player. I didn't encounter any quality issues. A nice touch is that the display shows the artist and name of the song for MP3s. A few nitpicks: I am not a fan of remotes for everything. This product could be better if the random play function and the pure direct feature were accessible by buttons on the unit instead of on the remote. It seems silly to keep a remote around just for these two functions. ... show more

Like- Solidly built, but not too heavy. This product is exactly as advertised! It is easily compatible with most stereo receivers. I am very pleased so far! Dislike-Only plays one CD at time. I would've preferred a multiple disc unit, but could not find a NEW one, in this price range.

So I am old school and love holding my music in my hands. I have an extensive cd collection. I couldn't do the download music because of lack of sound quality. I invested in this player hesitantly because of price, but let me tell you, worth every penny. It's like listening to a compact disk for the first time. Sound quality is incredible. Every detail of the music is brought out crystal without sounding too digital. You could say a warm sounding feel. It flows effortlessly. Sorry. I'm listening to some Pink Floyd as I write this. Anyways, I've had this unit for about six months now. No issues as of yet. I recommend the optical line hook up instead of the analog for best sound playback. Display is pretty simple, but who cares. I bought this Denon because my Onkyo 6 disc carousel was causing certain CDs to skip or freeze. I am a longtime Onkyo sycophant going back some 30 years now, so I assumed the CDs were somehow "bad". I finally got tired of spending money on replacement CDs, and I began to open my mind to the possibility that perhaps everything I had ever believed about Onkyo was wrong. Thankfully, I didn't throw away those old "bad" CDs, and the first thing I did when I hooked up this new Denon was to try those old "bad" CDs. Zero issues on this new Denon. Zero skips. Zero freezing. The CDs weren't bad, the Onkyo CD player was bad! So I have now deprogrammed myself from being an Onkyo cult follower, and now I'm all in on Denon products. When my Onkyo receiver finally goes bad, it will also be replaced with a Denon. Go Denon! ... show more

    • The dreaded "Can't Read Disc" error

This CD player worked fine, and sounded great, for six and a half months. A couple days ago, it stopped reading discs, displaying the "Can't Read Disc" error. That error was common for many of the CD-Rs that I had burned, but never for commercial CDs. Now every CD, commercial or otherwise, triggers the error, without exception. I tried leaving it off for a few hours, unplugging it, just to see if it were just some weird glitch, but that didn't resolve the problem. (I saw that at least one other Amazon reviewer reported this problem within having the unit for less than a year, so it doesn't appear to be a one-off problem.) So, faced with the cost to ship it to a repair center (and probably springing for shipping insurance, too), and given the reports I've seen of repairs taking four to six months (with no guarantee that the warranty would be honored), I decided to take the cover off and see whether cleaning the lens would help. I tried a dry cotton swab first, which didn't help. Isopropyl alcohol on the lens didn't help, either. I also sprayed the inside with compressed air, although that was unnecessary because the inside of the player was entirely dust-free. And there were no obvious failed components inside (e.g., broken belt, disconnected ribbon cable, etc.). I've decided to consider my Denon purchase a sunk cost and put whatever money I'd spend on the repair toward buying another CD player. In almost fifty years of owning stereo equipment, I've had only one item that failed so soon after acquisition, and that was a cheapo Radio Shack all-in-one system that I purchased about 45 years ago. Everything else has lasted years or decades. Too bad, because the sound of the Denon player was outstanding. I rarely buy extended warranties but, like others, I recommend doing so if you purchase this CD player. I now wish I had done so. ... show more

There are several good and reasonably-priced CD players out there. The DCD is a little pricey but somehow I wanted it as the companion to the PMA600. The Denon literature plays up the analog side of things, which I quickly ignored by connecting a digital cable. However, it kept bugging me and so I tried it. To my surprise, the analog connection produced the better sound with practically no background noise. Choose analog mode and pure direct on the PMA, pure direct mode 2 on the DCD. Very good CD player. I like the internal DAC, it sounds really well connected to my Sony receiver. I tested with the Lord of the Rings soundtrack and the sound quality was awesome. Also I played my very old mp3 cds and it work perfectly. Only complain is the remote control that includes many functions for the Denon receiver. In my opinion, a little overpriced for a single disc CD player, but it worth it. ... show more
