  • Nice replacement for an older 4K monitor
Display Size: 32 Inches Style: S3221QS
As a graphic artist, I've used LG monitors for years, ending with an LG 27UP600-W (27" 4K) that was getting a bit long in the tooth. Disliking the LG's base/stand (wobbled a lot and didn't hold the monitor level horizontally) and looking for something a bit different, I decided to go to a Dell. I really appreciate the base/stand on Dell monitors (which holds their monitors level with no wobble), and I wanted a bigger, curved screen, 4K resolution, accurate colors, and a 60Hz refresh rate. The Dell S3221QS checks all of these boxes. It's 32", curved, 4K, has nice colors and the 60Hz refresh rate. The blacks are dark and inky. Movies (like 'Avatar: The Way of Water') look good on it. It's a well-built piece of hardware that feels solid. I'm perfectly aware that the colors may not be "quite" as accurate as a screen with IPS technology (this Dell is vertical alignment, or VA), but I appreciate the darker blacks. I also have not seen any major issues with ghosting and tearing with some of the gaming I've done on it. The only downside I've seen so far with this being a VA screen is with viewing angles. Colors can appear washed out if you're looking at this monitor from any direction other than dead center. With that said, I'm rarely, if ever, not viewing this screen from anything other than directly in front of it, so this is not a huge concern. In sum, the Dell S3221QS is a heavy, well-built monitor that's good for general office/productivity use (and some gaming) that meets all of my requirements. It's also about the only sub-$500 monitor on the market, from any manufacturer, with a curved screen, that isn't an ultrawide. ... show more

  • Great value for a UHD monitor!
Display Size: 27 Inches Style: S2721QS
For office applications, this UHD monitor performs well. If value is important to you, you likely won't be disappointed. tl;dr When the work you do daily requires a full-time commitment to being in front of a screen to do your job, then the characteristics of that screen can have a substantial impact on your productivity, health, etc. Having used a "standard" HD monitor for quite some time at work, I was starting to find it to be too constraining and difficult to work on. I felt it was time for an upgrade to a UHD/4k monitor. After some research, I settled upon this model, as it scored well on use in an office environment (according to rtings.com), it had consistently high reviews, and it was priced attractively here on Amazon. It also included speakers and a versatile stand, which were nice additional perks that I thought could come in handy. I took the plunge and have not been disappointed. This monitor has met or exceeded all of my expectations for office applications. The picture is clear. I have ample ability to control brightness, contrast, etc. And the refresh rate remains at 60Hz as long as the attached device can support it. The stand allows for all the control that I could ask for in positioning the display, but I've since attached it to a desk-mounted monitor arm which I also really like. I should also mention that having 2 input channels has been very convenient, as it has allowed me to use it as a shared display between different computers. In a pinch, I've even used the speakers on a few occasions; they're not very good, but then again I don't expect them to be. Also, I have used it once as a monitor for a video game console, and I was quite pleased with it. Again, the audio was sub-par, but the picture (including refresh rate) was excellent. For the value, I've been really pleased with this monitor so far. Since I use it primarily for office applications, I can definitely recommend it for that. And as a general-purpose display, it seems to perform well and should not disappoint much. But if you want something that will perform optimally for gaming (especially with high refresh rates), then you will probably not be considering this to begin with. Also, if you want something that has great built-in speakers, I recommend using a TV instead. ... show more

  • Looks and sounds great!
Display Size: 32 Inches Style: S3221QS
The picture quality is excellent displaying my PS5. This monitor supports every resolution mode up to 60Hertz. Higher refresh rate 4K monitors were a lot more expensive, and I'm not sure if my eyes would see any difference above 60 Hertz anyway. The big surprise is how good this monitor sounds. I usually wear headphones, but I find myself using the speakers more and more. It sounds better than a television for sure. Looks better too. I wish it was curved just a bit more. You won't even notice the curve after a day or too, or I didn't anyway. It has improved my gaming, and streaming quite a bit. The settings and menus are easy to access and change. The stand looks good, and is sturdy and adjustable. ... show more

  • Great 16:9 4k, but Mac needs special cable.
Display Size: 32 Inches Style: S3221QS
I love the monitor. It is a great price for a 4k if you want a 16:9 widescreen but don’t want an ultrawide. However, when I received the monitor I was disappointed because it flickered. The problem is the cable included does not work with a Mac. **** If you learn anything from my review - be warned that the HDMI cable that ships with this monitor does NOT work well with a Mac. When I first used the Dell monitor cable that came with the monitor, I had the annoying flickering problem that many people have commented on. Moving screen windows, changing color settings and lowering the resolution/refresh rates makes it go away temporarily (or permanent if you really turn the settings down - but who wants a 4K monitor running at 1K???). The solution is a high quality thunderbolt-to-DisplayPort cable. The same blog that gave me that advice also wrote that you can use a certified fancy HDMI cable if necessary but advises against it. I have not tried that. But the standard HDMI cable included does NOT work for this monitor with a Mac (I tried another HDMI cable from my TV, it also didn’t work). So make sure to order a special cable or you may be disappointed. ***** The cable I ordered that fixed the problem was a “thunderbolt/usb-c to DisplayPort” cable that was rated for monitors up to 8K monitors. It fixed the flashing problem and I now love the monitor. P.s.: Dell, I would have given this monitor 5 stars if the cable included worked for my computer, or even if the instructions had mentioned/warning that a Mac needs a special cable. ... show more
