    • Using these for padding
These arrived vacuum packed and highly compressed. Instructions said to wait overnight for them to fully expand. Clearly, these are an "open cell" foam. I am using them for padding optics. I was concerned they would take a set, and not provide good protection when the weight sat on them for an extended period. That has happened to some extent, but the foam still works adequately. Just don't beleive that 1" of foam will provide 1" of padding under load. ... show more

Got these to cover some exterior vents on the house. Easy to cut to size if you do it prior to them expanding. Once expanded a little harder to cut with scissors, but still possible. Vents were recessed into brick, so easy to scrunch up around sides.

    • Does expand over time!
This foam arrives vacuum sealed, so fresh out of the bag it was like 0.5" thick. After sitting out for 2 days, it now measures 0.9 inches. So, it does expand over time. I bought it hoping it actually wouldn't get to the full 1.00 inch, because stacking 3 layers at 0.9 thickness is dead-on perfect for my use. Cuts well with a CO2 laser. Does make a lot of smoke, but clean edges. Has a nice soft squish to it, pretty generic feeling case-foam. ... show more

Thinking that this was going to be 1" thick was a mistake. All 6 pieces together were not 1" thick. They DID expand a little bit overnight, but they start out very uneven at anywhere from 1/8" to 3/8" thick. If you want soft, these are perfect. If you want something that will protect your item, keep looking. ... show more
