  • Good package, everything is in working order.
I never played bass before, so I cannot judge it's playability too well. Everything came in a timely fashion. The bass is simple but effective, a volume knob and a tone knob (which doesnt seem to change anything). No problems with it, but it's a little on the bassy end, which is inconvenient because I play mostly black metal and need more treble. The amp is small and would not be suitable for a gig, but for practice purposes its perfect, even if you are practicing with a band in a studio or garage. The gig bag is quite poor. No lining to speak off, and only one very uncomfortable shoulder strap. Also it came with a tuner and metronome. The tuner is inferior to my Korg, because it requires to plug in your instrument and its harder to tune with it. But the metronome option is very convenient and has very many options. ... show more

  • GREAT BASS GUITAR!!
Awesome bass guitar. Bought for our grandson for Christmas and he loves it! The gig bag is pretty cheap and tore right away so you might want to consider getting a nicer bag. We found one on Amazom for around 35 bucks and it is much nicer. I would recomend this bass to anyone and everyone wanting to learn to play. Great quality, I believe he will still e playing this one years from now!! Thank you Amazon and Dean Guitars!!!! ... show more

  • slowly the volume controller started to loosen and its in a bad shape now
The Guitar is just 1 month old when it started having issues with volume. slowly the volume controller started to loosen and its in a bad shape now. I had to tape it so that I does not produce all the static. at about 3 months the strap on it broke , I can cut it back but it will drop down since the guitar itself is heavy. I am not sure what else to expect further. My son loves playing it but its defeating his purpose when it produces all the static. I need to get a replacement or get it repaired (under warranty) ... show more

  • Great value for the price...
I liked this bass right out of the box. I am a beginner at playing bass but I am a musician. The bass in and of itself is solid and well built. However, with the exception of the bass and amp (for practice only), the rest of the starter pack is marginal at best. I replaced the gig bag as it was too flimsy and replaced it with a Dean hardcase made for the bass (as small as the investment may be, you should really protect it. I replaced the tuner with a Yamaha tuner. The pack did not come with picks (I am still figuring which to use or use both). I am not proficient enough to know the difference in the strings and its corresponding sound so I will leave that option for last. These changes that I have made suit me and my purposes. For the true beginner, I would recommend this bass pack if what you are looking for is something that you can start to learn on right out of the box. When I was younger, there was no way that I could ever afford a bass like this. Good job Dean for putting together a decent bass. ... show more

  • Not worth it
I returned mine. This is why: For $200 you get a basic bass (not bad, but a $110 bass). You also get a bunch of accessories that are really bad: bad cable, junk tuner, useless amplifier, some picks, very light gigbag. I don't think they are $90 worth. You may feel that for $200 that's a good deal.. but wait, you end-up paying $200 for a basic bass, and accessories that you will have to change immediately ... because really they are no good. The amplifier has a 6.5 inches speaker (the product description says 8 inches!). And it's not even loud enough for a bedroom! if you increase the volume more than half, you get distortion noise which is awful. It's a useless amplifier. The bass itself is ok, finish of the frets was not great, some paint issues. Some people will say "You get what you paid for". Well, I've seen instruments from China of this price range with better finish. I think the problem for this bass is quality control. About sound, well, I don't know, I had only the amplifier with the set so I really can't tell. I ended-up returning it, I bought a Yamaha RBX170 Metallic Red for $170 and wow, I feel I spent my money more wisely with a better instrument. I'll spend $99 on a decent amp later, like the Ampeg BA 108 25W 8 inches which rocks! If you want to stick with the bass in this set, I'd suggest you buy just the instrument without the crappy accessories, and you buy a decent amp like the Ampeg. You'll be much, much more happy spending almost the same amount of money. Oh.. and for the tuner, buy a Snark SN-1 Tuner, that's $9 and so much better. ... show more

  • Great value pack.
I got this bass two days ago,and I must admit. This is a fabulous guitar. I've played around with quite a few beginner level basses, and this was one of the better ones. Stays in tune, and just flat has a great feel to it. The amp is a decent little practice amp. Nothing special. The gig bag is nice enough. But trust me,it's not gonna save your bass from damage. The amp cord works. The picks? Well. You shouldn't use picks with a bass, but they play just fine on my Les Paul. The strap is nice enough, and the tuner it came with was alright. But I use the SN-2 clip on,and it works ages better then it. ... show more

  • This is a great starter kit
I ordered this for my husband for Christmas. He loves it. The gig back is nothing to brag about but will work until we can get a better one. The amp is a cheap one, but for a beginner it works fine. the guitar is awesome, it has a very good sound.
