  • The extra suspension lift is nice, instructions are poor and can leave you with more problems unless you do additional work.
The kit itself is fine and my 4runner actually rides smoother and handles fine, and it is not unrealistic to install. I am a mechanic, so Its typical work for me, but someone who is handy should be able to get everything installed in an afternoon. The directions and customer support are why I gave it 3 stars vs 5. First off, you don't need to disassemble the front strut assy(which can be very dangerous, and not tried by even average shade tree mechanics) you do need to use a jack to release the spring tension when disassembling the suspension but the kit allows you to install the spacers on top of the strut assy, I thought this was a great design feature. There are a lot of things that if listed in the instructions would make this installation a lot easier and trouble free. First off you are forcing the original suspension to extend to its limits so prybars, alignment pins, etc make getting the holes to line up to reinstall the bolts essential, maybe even a helper for an extra set of hands. On the front installation, loosening the upper control arm pivot bolt that's closest to the engine allows the upper control arm to move freely so you can install the spacer, then retighten. Also the rear emergency and fluid brake lines need to be bent to allow for the new added length. Disconnecting them from their mounting brackets helps. But if you disconnect your rear fluid line you will have to bleed the brakes. I did also purchase a 1" inch front differential drop kit from toyotec to reduce the cv angles, instillation is easy for that as well. My big complaint is that right after I installed this kit both inner cv boot joints ripped. I attributed this to them being old and original so I bought some reman axles from Oreillys to replace them. 6000 miles and 4 months later these boots have ripped as well. I have not owned or worked on any 4wd vehicles with lifted independent front suspensions before but was not expecting this kind of unreliability. I called daystar and they basically told me to pound sand and that I needed to buy new oem cv axles only(always trying to pass the buck and blame everything but their product.) I doubt this would have solved the problem but after doing some research and talking to toyotec I found some solutions. The boots are ripping from rubbing through themselves where the boots are compressing (or stacking)on the narrow side of the cv joint. To alleviate this you can either order axles with a different better silicone boot from a cv axle company in Denver CVJ AXLES who Toyotec recommended or you can remove the small clamp on the inner cv boot and extend the boot down the shaft a bit farther until the bellows of the cv boots stop touching, and then réclamp using two hose clamps fastened together (two is better than one only to keep the axles balanced if you put the clamps 180 degrees from each other. ) this is the option I chose because the axles I got are lifetime warranty and I already spent the money otherwise CVJ axles would have been my choice, their prices are reasonable. Toyotec and CVJ were very helpful and knowledgeable to resolve my issues. Had it not been for them I might have removed the kit because although a 2.5 inch lift is cool, working on your 4runner every month is not. That's why we bought toyotas! Had daystar disclosed this in the instructions and been more helpful I would have easily rated it 5 star. You do need a suspension alignment afterwards but I would recommend driving it a day or so first to let the suspension settle. Hope this helps ... show more

  • Gives good height in the rear but kit did not come with stud extenders for the front
Installation in the rear was moderately difficult, but gives good height. No stud extenders in the box for the fronts!

  • Lifted my 4runner way more than advertised
Material of product is good sturdy but it adds a lot more lift and advertised after measuring my forerunner before and after installation my forerunner third GEN 1998 got a lift of 4 inches in the back and three and three-quarter inches in the front.. not ideal!!

  • Disconnect ABS sensors during install!
There wasn't a great description of what is included in the kit. The kit has 2 spring spacers that install on top of the springs in the rear and 2 spacers with bolt extenders that install on top of the front struts. No other boots or parts. It was cheap way to lift my 4runner,though I read some reviews where people said they installed theres in 2 or 3 hours. I'm not sure if thats true, I replaced my factory shocks at the same time (I highly suggest this, I went bilsteins and ride is alot better) and it was a good 6 hour job. The instructions don't state to unplug the abs sensors but DO unplug them, esp in the front or you will scretch the sensor wires and have to repair or replace them. Which on the 4runner is not a cheap replacement. ... show more

  • Not the material I expected
The kit lifts the truck up almost a full 3 inches in my case. 2.88 inches raised. I only say this is a 4 star product because I was disappointed in the finish on mine. The holes in the rubber spacer on the front weren't perfectly round and the mold was obvious

  • Nice kit for the money
I bought this kit to install on my sons 1997 2wd Toyota 4runner. This particular kit requires the front springs to be removed from the shock which requires a spring compressor and a little more mechanical ability. The instructions are kinda vague but once you begin the installation everything becomes clear. Make sure that you loosen all the control arm bolts to allow them to drop and make room for the longer shock assembly. The vehicle will require an alignment after completion of the lift. All in all I am satisfied with the kit. For the money I dont think you can find a better lift. ... show more

  • quality parts but not accurate description
quality parts relatively easy to install but be warned there are NO "BUMPS AND BOOTS" in kit as described. Kit only comes with spacers and bolts. Luckily I was installing new shocks anyways that came with boots but it would have been nice to get the taller "bump stops" I had expected. Also installation tip: be very care careful not to stretch ABS lines. They're very expensive & sensitive and it doesn't take much. Overall look, posture and ride is great. Just disappointed about the bumps. ... show more

  • Up we go!!
Daystar products are great and the method of install on this new kit rocks, no disassembly of struts. Awesome!! My only complaint would be in the description of the kit which is part number specific that it includes BUMPS and BOOTS neither of these items showed up with the kit. If this is the norm the description should be changed as not to mislead buyers and alter expectations. otherwise great product, easy install and good price. thanks ... show more
