I've always heard great things about Danner, but couldn't afford their US-made boots (though they're undoubtedly worth the price), and I initially didn't trust the quality of their imported models. But I eventually decided on trying these Vietnam-made Tanicus boots because A) the price is right in that mid-tier sweet spot, B) reviews around the internet have been positive, and C) in my experience, Vietnam-made clothing/gear/footwear actually tends to be pretty high quality. These were the main selling points for me: - Reasonably lightweight (for a combat boot) - No "tacticool" or "operator" styling. I wanted a classic, conservative boot design that won't attract attention - Breathable construction with instep vents. My feet run hot already, and no "waterproof" boot I've ever owned has actually stayed waterproof. I'd rather them just get wet but drain freely and dry quickly - Moderately aggressive tread pattern Upon inspecting the boots out of the box, I noticed there wasn't a single stitch out of place and the fit & finish was impeccable. No sloppy stitch lines, no off-center eyelets (both were a big problem with my old Bellevilles), and not a single stray thread. I have wide feet and wear a 13 in Vans shoes so I ordered 13W and they fit like they were made for my feet. (Danners always run narrow so order accordingly. Their website has a great tool that will provide a size suggestion based on the shoe brands/styles you already wear.) The toe box is plenty wide and my heel stays locked in place. Initially, there was a little pressure at the top of my ankle, where the leather bends inward as your foot flexes upward (other reviews have mentioned this, too), but it went away after the 1st mile and hasn't come back since. If it comes up, try loosening the laces instead of tightening them. This has been an issue with every new pair of boots I've ever owned. The boots feel nimble and planted, but still offer great ankle support and roll resistance. Very stable. My first day in them I did a quick 2-mile break-in hike in steep/muddy/rocky terrain and didn't have a single issue - a first EVER for me. I was blown away. And I still don't have a single gripe yet with these boots. But looking at some of the negative reviews, the only word of caution I'd offer is: Don't expect these to be the bulletproof boots that weigh 8 lbs each, can crush rocks underfoot like they were styrofoam, and are still on your feet in 15 years. This isn't that boot, and it's ok. This boot is light, agile, extremely comfortable, and will take about anything you can throw at it for a good 2 to 5 years before you replace with the next pair. If you need more than that, then you probably shouldn't be looking at mid-tier, imported, sub-$200 boots in the first place. For the rest of you: I highly recommend this boot! I think Danner found a perfect mix of comfort and capability - without sacrificing their reputation for quality - in an imported, affordable boot.

For context, I bought these bad boys for Air Force Field Training in camp Shelby MI, in the middle of the ball-sweat-humid and red-hot summer. For multiple weeks I wore these everyday for about 14-16 hours. I marched on roads everywhere I went and did excersizes in the middle of the forest. When I wasn't moving I was either standing in these or sitting with them on. I gave them a ton of use in all sorts of ways and am writing this review after owning these boots for about 2 months. These things are great! They're SUPER lightweight, putting on any other boot after wearing these feels like having cinder blocks on my feet. They're also pretty manuverable, I could do pretty much anything I could in sneakers while wearing these. I expected to have to break them in but they honestly feel like slippers from day one. They are really comfortable and have good padding. The support for the arch of my foot is a little lacking, but after putting boot oriented soles in to replace the stock ones I have no complaints (Though the stock ones are good on their own). They have the creature comforts you want in a work boot, thick laces that are comfortable to tie and stay tied, along with being rugged so they don't wear down and rip. Additionally, the tab on the back to pull them on with is a much smarter route than traditional webbing loops. The boots themselves seem to be built well, I haven't had anything start to wear or rip. Finally, they are cool. Feels like good airflow! Overall definitely a fan of these and a happy customer. If you're looking for a good pair of hot weather boots these are your best bet.

**1year update after original post** Great product! Great boot! Holds up much better than most. 6 months of use and it's great. I purchased this through wardrobe with several different sizes to choose from just incase I needed to try on a few. So after one year of use normal , wearing them three to four days a week, alternating with shoe and other boots, this seems to be the best boot I have ever owned. I live in a southernmost part of the United States where it's hot and humid most of the year especially in the summer, these are lightweight and easy on the feet on those hot days, They are still comfortable, still holding up, no rips no tears, I've got to say these Danner boots fantastic boot. 3 years in Wearing them now weekly in construction jobs. Strictly new construction, they have lost their new look, the rubber around the stiching have taken a beating the stitches on the outer ball of the foot have been rubbed and weared down. Minor stains and oil spots can be seen, and water has a tendency to sleep in the sides now. But that is all the cons, the original review holds up , still very light , which is needed in S. FL, it's hot and muggy, but these Danner boots don't feel as though they are bricks and are still comfortable. I've not had any complaints in light of what I put them through. A new inner sole every year helps as it always does. Great boot. If you need a pair to keep with you, theses are them. Hope this helps.

I bought my first Danners on Amazon. They were the Coyote TFX. I had never owned boot of this caliber before and fell in love with them when I put them on. I wore them every day for 3 years until literally things were coming apart inside and out. I went to purchase another pair but saw they weren't available. I looked at as many options away from Danner as possible (mostly due to price) but then I found the Tanicus. At $139 the price was right and I knew what size to order based on my other Danner boots. I finally bit the bullet. Thoughts - At first I thought my right boot was too tight and almost sent them back. I changed to thinner socks and wore them for a day. I would call them a perfect fit. These are not Coyote but I have to say I wish they were. I like the lighter colored boots even though the very first day with my TFX I got blood on them. They still looked cool after 3 years. The Tanicus is darker. If you are into that then they look fine. Also, the Tanicus is obviously more of a summer boot than the TFX. They are lighter and seem to have less leather. They are what I would expect from Danner as far as wear/feel goes. So so far they are pretty good but I wish I had another pair of TFX...to the point where I might do some hunting for a used a pair. I have only worn the Tanicus for three days. I will report back in after a few months. I'll running around the country side this summer and will get a better feel for what they are.

I live in the desert so do lots of desert hiking. That means heat and sand. As I looked for the right hiking boot, it suddenly hit me - Danner combat boots are made for soldiers who hike in the desert. So I bought a pair. I can't say enough good things about them. First, they are tall, so keep the sand out of my boot. But here are the amazing things - the boots are cool. My feet don't sweat. The boots are tall, but are flexible around my ankle (it's mostly cloth). You'd think cloth is not supportive but the boots are very supportive. You'd think they'd weigh a lot, but they weigh nothing. And they are comfortable as a tennis shoe to wear. The soles have surprising grip when bouldering. Only negative was I wore out my last pair after 3 years of heavy hiking. But since the boots are so inexpensive, who cares? I've had La Sportiva shoes that cost more but wore out faster.

What I like about this boot is weight, footbed, and breathability. I’m retired military and have owned many combat boots. Lined, unlined, waterproof, electrocution proof, jungle (similar to Tanicus boot), and other boots after leaving the service and doing industrial jobs. Truth be told, I bought my previous pair at a garage sale for $10 and replaced the missing insoles with Dr. Scholl’s inserts for about another $10. I saw the Danner brand and had always wanted a pair to see if they lived up to it. I assumed I’d be disappointed after buying the same style in the military (different brand), and they held up just as well. What I found is that the Tanicus, although jungle style with air vents, and not waterproof, and no insulation, outperformed the previous boots I’d been wearing! I work in rural Oregon in all kinds of weather and feet sweat. I’ve traditionally had 2 pairs of waterproof boots and swap them daily. I can wear these boots everyday, and never worry about cold, or comfort. I bought this pair as a gift for a friend and he loves them also. I’d highly recommend these to anyone in the trades, anywhere! I hope Danner is listening and sends me a complimentary pair, size 9 1/2 for the review. It’s a great boot!

Bought these for work/recreation etc... 2nd pair of Danner boots. Nice look, great material and support. Pros: Affordable, Good Construction, This model has a long history, Lots of loyal users that buy this model over and over. Cons: Tad narrow at the forefoot, Major pinch points @ the fronts of the ankles. Detail: See my pictures. Where the Upper and Lower Eyelets end and begin, there is a hinge type cut in the material, that ties a nylon support strip to the heel. Inner and outer ankle, both feet, experience the same pain. Feels like there is a piece of hard material rubbing and it’s only worse the tighter you lace. I’ve had these boots for about three weeks now. They don’t take a whole lot to break in. I feel I am past that break in the stage, and I am forced to try other methods to fix this. The only thing I find that helps, is to alter the leasing pattern. But of course, this affects the support of the boot around the ankle. Even a nice sock didn’t fix the issue. If you experience the same discomfort as I have, send them back before you wear them out and about. Also, boot felt much more comfortable whe I disregarded the bottom middle eyelet when lacing, also looked better in my opinion.

I bought these to replace a 20 year old set of Combat boots. I'm not military but I do Wildland Fire Support work several times a year and do a LOT of walking. My feet were already beat-up and blistered when I ordered these shipped overnight to the incident I'm currently on. I've only been wearing them for about 24 hours(over two days) and I am completely happy with them. The honestly feel like I have my feet wrapped in pillows....I dunno if these boots are that good or the old ones were that bad. I had concerns about them going in due to some reviews mentioning they were narrower and/or smaller than they should be for a given size. I can say that I wear an 11 Wide and these fit perfect. I also experienced the ankle-pinching that some people complained about and some returned them over. It went away after the first day of break-in. It was very minor at most anyway and I never considered returning them. I will post back if they don't hold up over time. The only real beef I have with these boots is the confusion ordering them. There are two similar colors listed for them and I still am not sure if Coyote and Mojave are actually different colors. They look the same in pictures - I ordered Coyote...the order invoice said Mojave...what showed up said Coyote??? The color is fine though... These are about the cheapest model boot Danner sells as far as I can tell but I would have paid more and they seem like a good value in person upon inspection...I needed a hot weather boot and these are it. They do keep my feet cooler...
