FIT I'll start off my review with the fit of the boot, since this was my main concern when researching these boots. My foot measures approximately 10 1/8". According to the Brannack scale, I should be somewhere between an 8 and 8 1/2. I purchased a size 8 EE. Length For me, these boots feel about 1/2 size too large. However, with thick hiking socks and normal foot expansion from hiking all day, they should fit fine. If you prefer thiner socks, then maybe size down a 1/2 size. Width Even though these are a EE, they feel like a regular width shoe. FINISH This is a well constructed boot which accurately reflects the price I paid for them. The boot itself looks like a cross between a traditional hiking boot and a combat boot. It is a very modern looking boot. It doesn't scream Ï'm a hiker" nor does it scream Combat Boots! it also doesn't look like work boots. The Cordura side panels adds a nice contrast breaking up the monotony of an otherwise expansive piece of leather. The leather has a suede finish to it. HEEL The soles have an aggressive tread. They are 1/2" taller than my Red Wing with the same style sole, but these feel more planted. This may be due to the lining as my Red Wings don't have a lining. INSOLE My boots came with the white heel cup. I put them in and they felt fine. I also noticed the little raised line where your toes can grip it. it's a nice touch. Also, I noticed the extra GoreTex material some reviewers mentioned. I think this was a calculated design decision. As the boot molds to your foot (or your foot molds to the boot), the extra material forms around the tongue, filling in the edges so it minimizes that red outline of the tongue on the top and sides of your foot. BREAK-IN So far, nothing compares to the pain I felt when breaking in a pair of Iron Rangers. It took just about 3 weeks and a large dose of eye tearing pain before they broke in. I almost gave up at one point. These are a walk in the park in comparison. There is one spot that rubs on the top of my big toe (from the seam at the top of the boot). It is only a minor discomfort at this point and should improve after a few more days of wearing these. The leather is soft and pliable. USE These boots will be used as dedicated (low mileage) hiking boots. SUMMARY A size 8EE ran a 1/2 size large for me. Wearing thick socks will add additional cushioning and take up some volume.Fit and finish is on par in relation to the cost of the boot. A unique design with a dose of modern materials, makes this boot stylish as well as functional. A Vibram sole with an aggressive tread design will ensure this boot performs on the trail under a wide variety of conditions. Softer more pliable leather should make break-in a little easier on your feet. I highly recommend this boot.

Bought these boots before a month long trip to Morocco. As expected they were a little bit stiff out of the box, especially the top edge. After about a week of constant casual wear they were broken in comfortably. I wore these for 30 days straight in Morocco- walking through cobble stone streets, trekking through the Sahara, hiking in the Mid-Atlas and they even got me 13,671 feet to the snowy summit of Mt. Toubkal. No snow made it through, they were plenty warm with double socks, and they did a remarkable job any sand from getting in.They not only held up but they also provided me with great ankle/toe protection and felt incredibly breathable. They also retain very little odor! Dinner includes a special plastic insole that fits into the heel bed. This actually works wonders- air flows under the foot and there is no grinding into the sole. The inside of the toe bed has small raised ridges that at first felt unusual, but after two straight days of hiking without any toe blisters I realized how essential these are. I treated these boots four times with Danner boot dressing (brown) while traveling and they kept them looking fresh and much less stiff. These were put through the ringer so they have scuff marks on the sides and the leather looks worn over the toe cap, yet, they still look great worn casually. I usually wear a 11.5 or 12 in boots, but these tend to be a little of the longer side. I would recommend sticking with the lower end of your size. If you have a wide foot you definitely need the EE. 100% sourced and crafted in America (not to mention recraftable), solidifies these boots as top notch.

I have never written a review on any product, but I am writing one for these. I have worn several types and brands of boots through the years and never worn a pair that felt as good as this pair of Danner boots. I use these for hiking. I wanted a boot that was comfortable and would take the beating I usually give a pair of boots. I only have about 50 miles on these so time will tell, but the beating has started. I have no doubts these will last for years. Regarding comfort: I have a wide foot with high arches. Hard to fit. I can't wait to put these on and start walking every day. They were a little stiff the first 4 or 5 miles, but soon broke in and feel great. It was raining the first day I wore them and I think this helped break the boots in and form to my feet. I have had them submerged in water and soaked with rain and my feet stay dry. This is a first for me because every water proof boot I've ever worn wound up making my feet wet the first time I got them wet. In addition I love how the boot fits flat down on the top of my foot. When the boots are laced correctly there is no movement inside. Danner customer service told me to order the size the American Shoe sizing devices give you. They say this is how they build their boots. The boot fits perfectly. Trust that size if you are ordering via the web. Regarding the weight: I don't feel it since the boot is so comfortable. I am planning on a long distance hike next year on the Appalachian Trail and these boots are coming with me. Great job Danner Boots. You know what you are doing and you build a great boot. I have finally found my boot company. I am considering buying a second pair.

I don't know if they hired people that are not as good or what but I'm really pissed off spending $400 and I'm just screwed. I guess I'm gonna look elsewhere for my yearly boot

Don't be intimidated by the tons of threads and reviews you read about how hard it is to get a pair of Danner boots to fit just right on the first try. Look, I went to their website and read up on the Danner Light II. The "fit" portion says these run NARROW, if your foot is on the wide side order your size in wide. Now I know my foot isn't narrow so I ordered a 9.5E. I pulled these boots out of the box threw in some premium insoles and lightweight merino wool hiking socks from REI and bam, these bad boys fit perfectly. I knew these didn't come with insoles and that's another reason I ordered wide to allow for more room with an insole. The insoles aren't thick but aren't the thin "1/4 inch from heel to toe insole" either. They are "work boot insoles" The quality is superb, the craftsmanship is superb, the materials, specifically the leather is premium. Simply put these boots exceeded my expectations. They wear very well, VERY comfortable out of the box. I wore them for about 6 hours the first time I tired them on. I have a 3 mile hike planned tomorrow and I will update this review after a put these boots through they're paces. Follow the danner website size guidelines and order wide if you aren't narrow footed and get ready to treat your feet to some handsome, high quality boots that will last you years to come. I own Danner Acadias and they have lasted me years. Danner boots are simply the best money can buy.

Bought at size 11.5R. They feel very narrow in the toe, but otherwise fit perfectly. Can't say if others will be more comfortable sizing up or going to an E for comfort, but these are work-boots. They're made to protect, not coddle, your feet. Color in images is mostly accurate, but comes out less green/more red in the leather and a gold in the webbing. They look good. Wore on a wet day to split firewood without breaking them in first. Low fatigue and no blisters, but the arch and top of my foot were a little sore from the rigidness of the new sole. Despite a plastic insert included with the boot, there is very little arch support and little-to-no padding under the foot. Not much room for padded insert, either. Took these boots out on the town that very night and went to a concert. They handled the pit and concrete floors just fine. Very stable in the ankle and have good traction. Total wear time (not broken in): 14 hours in one stretch. Minimal to low fatigue/ache in feet. No slip in the heel. Did not have to tighten lacing.

These Danner Light II boots are a near-exact replacement for a pair of Danner Light boots I bought 30 years ago. Three decades! Epic boots. Some lessons-learned over the years: (1) Break them in deliberately. Position the tongue exactly where you want it to fold, treat the leather to soften it for forming to your foot, and re-lace the boots how you want them to stay for the next decade or so. Prepare for about two weeks of discomfort while breaking then in. (2) I wear a 9.5D in Bostonian and Florsheim, and that's also what I bought for Danner. They are a snug fit, which means after break-in they'll fit YOUR foot. I can recall being grateful for the extra support when almost rolling an ankle two hours into a hike up a mountain. I think I did this more than once. (3) Keep them clean and treated. It's not a hard chore. Rinse with a garden hose, wipe dry with a paper towel, air dry, and rub in boot dressing. Done. Overall, while it's probable that 30 years is longer then typical, with care these should be a great pair of boots for anyone. I'm forever a Danner fan. Oh, and by the way, Prime Wardrobe is a good deal as well. I chose 3 pairs of Danner boots to try, chose the ones I liked, and returned the others. Simple and convenient.

I really want to like these boots. The styling suits my inner curmudgeon because they aren't the glitzy, day-glow and plastic that so many boots are these days. I like leather, vibrams, and stitch down construction. The problem is that while they appear to be old-style burly and vibram on the outside, on the inside they are cheap plastic that breaks down. Everything you read in these reviews about the thermoplastic hell counters breaking is true. Before I bought them, I asked one of the people at Danner about those reports and they said it was due to people kicking their boots off without loosening the laces. That is false. The design of the boots is such that once you untie them, they are loose enough to fall off. The reality is that the heel counter and the leather are just not burly enough to stand up to serious use. They will break and you will walk out the sides of these boots. I've had mine for about 6 months. I've worn them almost daily around town and have hiked and hunted in them up to 12 miles a day. The heel counter in the right boot is already broken and I am retiring them to town use only. A friend of mine loves these boots and wears them hard, but he gets one season out of them and they are basically expensive slippers by the end of six months in the field. By slippers, I mean they have no form or structure, basically like loose, stretched out moccasins with a sole. They only other issue I have them is that they way they are cut. They are tight at the toe and loose at the ankles for me. I have to use use the heel locker lacing to try to keep the my heel tight in the counter. I think that exacerbates the heel counter issue. The cut also makes it tough to fit a reasonable insole in them. The Danner thermo-plastic insole doesn't have enough arch for me and does not add any shock absorption. A good insole provides that and reduces hotspots on your soles. I had to wear these things for a couple months before they stretched enough to fit a good insole. It wasn't an issue of going to a larger size. Wider or longer did not work for me.
