Description

The CURT Spectrum trailer brake controller provides powerful brake operation while maintaining a clean, consistent OE look and feel on the dash of your vehicle. It is comprised of a main module and a separate user interface. This interface is a simple rotary knob with a push-button and ten tri-color LEDs to control and monitor all trailer brake activity. It also features a triple-axis accelerometer for highly responsive, smooth stops on any grade. The separated module and interface of the Spectrum brake controller allow it to integrate with the vehicle unlike any other. The main module can be mounted behind the dash and completely out of sight. The separate rotary knob provides a sleek, subtle interface that mounts on the dash of the vehicle wherever desired. It features ten LEDs with three colors each (red, green and blue) to indicate trailer brake activity and power adjustment. The rotary knob and integrated push-button allow for simple and effective operation of the control settings and manual adjustment. The Spectrum trailer brake controller offers superior safety and helps protect the life of your vehicle and trailer with its advanced triple-axis accelerometer. This integrated circuit detects the motion of the vehicle and trailer when making stops and applies the precise amount of brake power for maximum efficiency and effectiveness. The three axes of the circuit also enable the brake control to compensate when going up or down a hill. Like most CURT brake controllers, the Spectrum installs using one of our vehicle-specific quick plug harnesses. It also has automated leveling and calibration capabilities to simplify and speed up the installation process. The Spectrum trailer brake controller comes with mounting hardware for a complete installation.

  • Great product and looks factory on my 2008 Silverado
I was looking for a brake controller that didnt get in the way of my knees, old style brake controllers always annoyed me and just plain look bad, so when i found out about this brake controller from curt that only shows a remote knob, i figured i would try it, it is very expensive compared to other brake controllers, but its kinda a specialty for people like me who dont like normal brake controllers, so i was willing to spend the money, first off ill say everyone that had problems with the controller flashing when not in use almost made me not buy it, but i figured i would wire a on/off switch if i had that problem but it never happened to mine, I havent actually hauled a trailer yet, but i did connect to one just to see what happens, nothing different than when not connected, except when i unplugged the trailer i did get the flashing blue lights which mean the trailer was disconnected, those lasted about 10 seconds and then it returned to the normal mode, for my fellow 07-13 silverado owners thinking about buying this, just make sure you order the wiring harness adapter, its like $8 you wire it up to your trucks already pre existing brake controller wires under the dash and then it plugs directly into the module that comes with the brake controller, and then connect the 2 wires to the fuse box under the dash, they are already there from the factory, google should make all that easy, but overrall its super simple to install and super easy to use, i should be hauling a trailer soon, if this is the last you hear from me about this brake controller it means it worked great, if it does not work great i will be back to change my review ... show more

  • Awesome Brake Controller
This is an awesome brake controller. Works perfect. Manufacturer VERY helpful when called and asked a question about the wiring connection. Installation is straight forward, and it looks like it was factory installed.

  • Like the compact size and fairly easy to install. Decent value for the $.
Like the compact size and fairly easy to install. Decent value for the $. Functions mostly as expected with one small quirk. It sometimes has random lights lit. When I contacted the manufacturer they said this was typical and not a sign of a defect. Used for a couple years in my Jeep Wrangler before selling the vehicle. ... show more

  • Best controller out there!
Best controller I've used in the last 30 years. I've owned allot of brake controllers from every price point out there and this is the best. I set it up the first time, tweaked it once and haven't touched it in almost a thousand miles. No fiddling trying to get a better stop or working out the lurches of the trailer stopping you. I can ease to a stop or punch the brakes hard, and I get the right amount of braking every time without adjusting it again. It looks OEM in the truck and the brightness is plenty adjustable, this coming from someone who will turn his dash lights off to avoid distraction. It does it's thing and I just drive. ... show more

  • Absolutely Garbage
Literally ripped this thing out of my truck, wires and all while towing 7K LBs of metal roofing. Reference 2018 Ford F150 7 pole, pre wired for tow package. Vehicle upfitted for towing myself. Stiffer leaf springs, rear air bags, radiator upgrades, enhanced trans cooler, differential lockers, many flashes with Forescan. Etc. This thing caused me to go through a set of rotors by failing through KY mountains and warping the rotors. Makes no sense, you pretty much have to learn this things version of Morris Code of blinking lights. Press the button in sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Not integrative to Fords center screen, in other words the trucks BUS will not recognize it. Drove about 800mi through hills with this and not once did it engage the brakes of my travel trailer. You can pretty much mount this POS anywhere. Anyone who gets in your truck will ask you WTF if is as it lights up every time you hit the brakes even if there is no trailer attached. Doesn't integrate into Fords, and probably not into any trucks, native center display. So you can set a few trailers up in your dash. Like RV Gain 6.5. Boat Gain 5. If it does work for you that means you have to adjust every time you change the load which is kinda stupid for the working man. Like I said I literally got so irritated with this thing, and I've had it and worked with it tried tweaking it tried different trailers tried programming and trouble shooting. Took the truck and rv to a big uhaul place, one of the ones that install hitches, to the truck and trailer. They literally activated my trailers brakes in front of me while this crappy thing wouldn't. Its just a POS. If you have a ford, just buy a ford controller. Not something that looks like a ford controller from China but an actual OEM controller. I know you can do the same for Chevy as well, just not sure about the software part and dodge/toyota it have no clue. This is coming from a guy that builds and programs tunes for Fords. ... show more

  • Easy install
Most videos I watch on installing this to a Chevrolet Trail Boss shoed you having to add the tiny wires to the adapter. I guess enough people complained and the company provided a new plug. Had to purchase the wire harness for the Trail Boss separately. Install only took about 40 minutes. Did not have to remove any of the panels. Just removed the USB port by prying it out. You can put you finger through the hole and pull the tabs that will allow you to push the plastic plug in. You then just have to maneuver it around to get it out and back in. ... show more
