I’ve always grown cucumbers on the ground without a trellis, so I decided to give this a try. It seems to be sturdy enough to support the weight. The nylon netting might not hold up to the intense Houston heat, so I’ll remove and store that netting after the growing season ends. I’ve also seen similar netting at garden supplies, so it can be replaced when it becomes too brittle. I assembled the rods together quite easily; but when putting together the structure, I found it required a second person to hold the framework while I installed the metal clamps. There is a trick to getting the clamps around the crossbars and the vertical bars without pulling the bars apart. The clamps are flexible enough to go around both bars if you look at the photos in the directions to see how they fit. You put the clamp around the vertical bar by slightly separating the clamp, place the crossbar against the vertical bar, and bring the clamp down around the crossbar, fitting the crossbar into the curvature. By separating the clamp, you then bring each side around the vertical bar, and force the clamp to come back around the vertical bar on each side. This requires a bit of strength, and wearing included gloves is recommended to avoid scratching your hands. HINT: I found that out the hard way. If you stretch out the netting completely, there is a long end which drapes over the frame from front to back. Be careful when draping the netting because it tends to get caught on the protruding bars at the open ends. Once assembled, I put it over a bed I prepared with cucumber seeds and forced the spike ends firmly into the soil to keep the frame stable. I feel confident this is going to work well, and make it convenient to harvest without having to bend over and search within the leaves to find the mature cucumbers. This seems to be a pretty good value with a current 30% off the regular price. ... show more
