  • A Nice Switch Port
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch
The game runs well on Switch, and the entire game is contained on the cartridge. There is a small day one update, but it is not necessary to play the game. The physical edition comes with a code for a digital soundtrack, a PHYSICAL mini art book, and reversible cover art. As far as playing the game itself: The cutscenes in particular are vibrant and crisp, especially on the OLED. The game runs smoothly, and the controls are as responsive as you’d expect. The soundtrack is nice and atmospheric, and the whole aesthetic of the game blends together well in general. The gameplay is an amalgamation of several actions JRPG games from more recent years like Nier: Automata and Fate: Samurai Remnant, as well as having some elements of classic Souls-like combat mechanics mixed in. It is a fairly competent action JRPG, and if you are looking to play on the go, the Switch version is definitely a viable option. I deducted a single star because in handheld mode some of the character models look a bit jagged when running around. The gameplay itself is smooth and I didn’t experience any frame-rate hiccups, but do be aware the models can look a bit questionable at times. This is not enough to ruin anything for me, but I know it’s important to note for others who are more particular about how the game looks when playing it. All in all, this is a really solid port. If you’re a collector, a fan of the genre, or just looking to try out a fun action JRPG, this is a really good one and definitely worth checking out. ... show more

  • Like the first game!
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch
I'm enjoying Crymachina as I did with Crystar! They're not really related, but this works like a follow-up to the series.

  • An interesting game with cool art style
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch
The story is easy to follow and has some good characters. It might take some time to get used to the controls but it’s a good hack n slash game.

  • Beautiful but too much training
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch
I was expecting a game where, like Furyu’s Crystar, you’re dropped into a game where you figure out the battle mechanics as you play. This is an action JRPG, but it’s the kind where you’re forced to do mock battles that require you to perform specific battle combinations in order to move on. It’s not just in the first few minutes, it lasts through several cutscenes, bonding episodes, and a trip to base. The game plays smoothly and is responsive, but fighting a giant mech or machina until you dodge twice at exactly the right time, and then perform 4 other moves to check off the training isn’t fun. The story follows a futuristic girl who dies of a disease, and finds her memories hundreds of years in the future as the chosen one to save humanity, as everything fell apart 6 months after her death. I may give this another try to see if the training mode eventually stops, because the dialogue is extremely dark (adult as well, with jokes about predators) and humorous. ... show more
