  • Excellent piece of dive gear. Full stop.
Color: Black/White/Black
I can't speak highly enough about this snorkel. As a new diver (just recently OW SCUBA certified), I think my opinion on this snorkel is particularly valid BECAUSE of the fact that when it comes to gear and one brand over the other, I have no idea who's better than the other or why. Nor do I have dive-backed experience to put all my chips behind any one or the other. What I, and other new divers like myself typically are looking at for initial criteria is price point and performance/reviews. So for this particular piece of gear, it nails both. I used it for my OW certification recently and never once after each dive (up to 30 ft.) did I surface only to have to find myself blow-holing a ton of water out of my snorkel. Did a little bit of water get in? Of course - it's not AIRTIGHT, but only having a small bit to push out instead of 1/4lb of liquid before you can take a clean breath, makes a hell of a difference and gives the diver that much more confidence in the water. And, at an extremely reasonable price-point, I'd say that's a solid addition to your dive equipment. I would 100% recommend this product to anyone interested in the sport, amateur or professional. ... show more

  • Amazing as long as you get one that seals well with a free moving float valve!
Color: Black/White/Black
I ordered two just t make sure I had a working one before my trip and I'm glad I did. One leaked at the float stop at the top and the float liked to stick closed. The second was perfect! So amazing how well it works! I could scuba dive 60', surface and switch back to snorkel to find it was still water free and ready to go! Big waves? No problem! It'd close and open on it's own while keeping the water out. I even used it to avoid covid on the dive boats figuring I'd be sucking air above everyones breath Make sure you test that the float moves freely and that it seals when the float valve is closed. Otherwise ignore the molding issues on the silicone where the tube bends because those ridges are just for flexibility so it's purely cosmetic unless there was a gap so large you can suck air through somehow. ... show more

  • Great snorkel! zero water entry when diving below surface
Color: Black/Silver/Clear
Picked up for my trip to Belize, 3 days of snorkeling along reefs. along with cressi goggles preformed as expected. I could dive below the surface with zero water entering snorkel. Then when your about to resurface, simply start exhaling, opening the valve, didn't have salt water in my mouth once!. Spent more on goggles and snorkel, bought cheap fins. Worked perfect! ... show more

  • Leaked first time
Color: Black/Silver/Clear
First time snorkeling with it the one way valve leaked. Not very happy about that especially with the cost of it. Seems like it would be a great snorkel besides that. Maybe I received a lemon

  • Concerned. So far seems to be worse than even the "kids" stuff we bought 25 years ago
Color: Black/Yellow/Clear
I don't understand. Hopefully I just got a lemon ? This Cressi Alpha Dry does not in any way appear to be a top quality snorkel to me. I have next to me this Cressi Alpha Dry, A Cressi Super N0va Dry, and then 3 snorkels purchased approximately 20 years ago: a Body Glove semi-dry type, with a fully rotating quick disconnect, a US DIvers that was part of a very inexpensive kit bought on a tourism trip, and a Sea Sports brand dry snorkel purchased who knows where, and who knows how long ago. When compared side by side to several other snorkels, including really inexpesive "kit" snorkels, many aspect of the Alpha Dry become concerning. FIrst and most obvious is the very restrictive air flow; and when examining the actual outlet, it seems to be a good bit smaller than tube size. Air flow is not only vital for performance and comfort, it's vital for preventing pulmonary edema. The Cressi Alpha Dry has a cool oblong feature to it that makes no sense at all - I've seen snorkel manufacturers advertise that this is to reduce drag, but it's oblong on the above-water portion as well, and frankly most of the in-water portion is the round rubber tubing. The Cressi Alpha comes with a quick disconnect clip that does indeed disconnect and connect easily. However, the portion that goes over the band is dramatically shorter than the clips on any of our old kids snorkels, and prevents placing the clip anywhere you would like on your mask. Additionally, it doesn't rotate, forcing odd angles and torsions. The rubber portion of the Cressi Alpha Dry is also the stiffest of all of these snorkels. The plastic tube itself is rather straight, with no J in it. The rubber tube is also very straight with no J in it like some of our other snorkels. This means that the curve, or the J, is going to be by the rubber part curving, obviously enough. Except that it's rather stiff, so when actually in your mouth, there's a fair amount of tension on one side, and frankly it's enough tension to be rather distractig. The other snorkels don't have this problem; either their rubber tubes are much softer (as is the case with our 'kids' snorkels and also the Cressi Super Nova) or the plastic tube or rubber tube itself is curved enough that there isn't a lot of tension when you put it in your mouth. The Cressi Alpha seals itself with a float and a hinged flapper that will remind you a lot of a toilet. When experimenting with it on land, I found the action very smooth and nice, but also found that the valve likes to stick closed. I hope this is not the case in water. Our 20 something year old Sea Sports dry snorkel uses a simple flap valve, and the Cressi Super Nova uses a direct float valve. Both are working much more reliably on land, with neither showing any affinity towards sticking unlike the Alpha. So, basically nothing about the Alpha impresses me. I'm concerned about the low airflow and how it can have noticeably lower airflow than a "kids toy" snorkel, I"m concerned about the sticky valve, and how the rubber section is so stiff. This may not come on vacation with us. The SuperNova, on the other hand, seems to be the well designed snorkel one would expect for these prices. ... show more

  • Very Happy with the Quality.
Color: Black/Blue/Clear
Had a US Diver snorkel that worked pretty well, but I lost it in rough sea condition at Dry Tortugas. I was looking for a good brand to replace it. Very pleased with the design and features like the quick remove clip. It allowed me to securely clip onto my mask strap. Snorkeled again in rough water in Antigua and it performed as expected. I got a Cressi mask as well, and the combo made the swim more enjoyable. Every brand has their good and bad, so far I’m happy with Cressi. Now I’m look for good fins for next year’s trip. Any suggestions? ... show more
