  • Can't be beat for the price! Great violin!
Style: Violin Size: 4/4 Color: Traditional Brown
This is a very nice violin for the money. It is absolutely amazing that the Chinese kids can put out such a nice product that sounds so good. I got this on sale, with an additional 15% off, too. Way less than 100 bucks. Wow, wow, and wow!! I played for 5 years when I was a child, and haven't touched a violin in more years than I can even believe (over 25), so I didn't want to spend a lot. Anyway, I've been wanting one for a long time, and finally bought this one based on the product specs and the positive reviews. Things such as the ebony fingerboard and pegs were must-haves. Having not touched a violin in so long, I consider myself pretty much a beginner. However, I did know that I'd want decent strings, and so ordered separately the ones I wanted. In re-stringing the instrument (thanks to help from you tube vids), I could see that it was indeed set up before being shipped. The pegs all fit the peg box nicely, and it was easy to re-string it. The pegs didn't slip at all. Installing the bridge was easy, too. It had been fit to the instrument before shipping-- meaning that it was actually installed, carved down to match the instrument perfectly, before being removed and packed for shipping. So, I didn't have to do anything to the bridge to get it to fit perfectly. That would probably have been beyond my comfort level. So, how does it sound? Very good, I'd say. Nice and deep rich sound. I have a decent ear, and was able to tune it without a problem, and it seems to stay tuned as well as any other violin. I have no doubt that an experienced violinist could probably find things to not like about this violin. But to me, it is perfect to learn (or re-learn) on, and certainly a wise choice for someone starting out. Summary, pros and cons: PROS: Good wood, good overall construction and components, sounds nice, nice case, decent bow, professionally set up prior to shipping (again, this doesn't mean it is ready to play out of the box, as the bridge is packed and it has to be tuned). CONS: The finish probably isn't the greatest. I noticed some minor marks and imperfections, and a little glue up by the nut that wasn't completely wiped off. Really minor stuff to my mind, but something that might bother me a little in an instrument that was 5x as expensive or more. Also, you might want to invest in better strings, although to be fair I didn't try the ones that came with it. ... show more

  • Perfect piece for new players with one caveat
Style: Violin Size: 1/4 Color: Traditional Brown
I bought this violin 2 years ago but waited to write a review. Because reviews are VERY important to me, I wanted this to be as accurate as possible. First, when the violin arrived March 2011, I was happy to learn that it came with a bridge that was pre-shaped. This saved me at least $20. All I had to do was take it to the local music shop (I didn't feel qualified) to have it placed properly. Second, both instructors my daughter used thought the instrument's sound quality was perfect for beginners - intermediates. The longest a child will need this size violin is probably 2 years since they are constantly growing. Third, renting would have cost $25 per month. As long as she played 4 months I was ahead of the game. Also, if she decided to quit earlier, I could have recouped some cost by selling the instrument. I did replace the E string in order to get a piece to protect it from slicing too deep into the bridge. That cost was $2. Fourth, the included case held up beautifully over the 2 years. The only complaint I have was that the bow was of low quality. It's curve was to the side. We had to replace it but found one at Amazon for $10. Hopefully, we just got a bad bow and the other Cremona sets do not have this issue. Overall, I still gave this product 5 stars because the price I paid included everything we needed (minus the bow). For under $120, I would highly recommend this violin. ... show more

  • Please do NOT buy this violin!!! It's junk!!!
Style: Violin Size: 4/4 Color: Traditional Brown
I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my daughter, who wanted to learn to play the violin. For the price, I was expecting it to be basic -- but I did expect it to work. Unfortunately, a couple of strings broke right away. Right after she opened her present! (Really?!?!) It was extremely sad watching her get so excited at the gift and then very quickly be disappointed that it was junk!! After this hard learned lesson, we researched other options. My daughter is now in a rental instrument program and using a high-quality instrument meant for playing music. Some day she may want to buy a violin, but I will definitely not buy it online. Some things require buying in person and this seems to be one of them. ... show more

  • Beautiful!
Style: Violin Size: 1/2 Color: Traditional Brown
My wife and I read many reviews before settling on this violin...Amazed! The instrument is beautiful looking the the case is very nice as well. Due to my inexperience with this particular instrument and over excitement to have it ready and playable for our daughters birthday gift, I did pop the fat G string and had to run out and get a new one. I found the new string to be better quality though so sure you may get steal of a price on this one but their is always room to for improvement with a few upgrades later. WORKS though keeps it's tune the fine tuners are the key, DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE TOP PEGS, it's not a guitar. As for the bridge that many peoples reviews have complained about and scared me for a few...after thinking about it and researching confirming the reasoning for the bridge not being installed during shipping or if the instrument is not in use for a while, the tension is released to prevent warpage to the entire instrument and damage to the delicate bridge itself. Mind any ego talk is my suggestion, excellent for beginners or intermediate is not an insult...you get your moneys worth and a very decent sounding playable instrument. I will be offering some more pictures for this soon, but in the meantime google the images on the model if you need help with deciding. ... show more
