The Platypus mount by Cravenspeed is by far one of the best mounts on the market. Made in the USA and crafted from thick heavy duty steel plates, this sucker wont bend, people can bump into your car and it still won't damage this plate holder. the price they ask is backed by some of the best customer service I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. I've purchased 4 separate plate mounts from Cravenspeed and won't stop. Ease of install is a bit difficult for certain models. This specific one for the MX-5 was difficult as the instructions were not clear. however a quick youtube tutorial and looking at the hardware installed made install a breeze. total install time was under an hour. **** you will need a long socket adapter in order to install some of these mounts. specifically for the MX5 you will need a socket wrench and preferably a long socket. the included metal wrenches do nothing to install the tow hook receiver. Highly recommended purchase if you have a nice car and want the best flush looking front plate mount in the industry.

The installation instructions that came in the box were a joke, and the video on the Amazon listing wasn't much better. As a result, it took me three tries to figure out how to install this and I almost gave up and returned it. In the end, the installation is simple, it is just not as readily apparent as the manufacturer seems to think. The price of over $100 seems a bit steep as well considering what it is.

Nice fit on 2025 MX-5 Miata Club. I put some blue Loctite on the bolt that holds the license plate frame to the extension arm because I didn't feel confident that I was able to get the bolt tight enough to keep the license plate from coming loose. This bracket is kind of expensive, but it allowed me to mount my plate without drilling any holes in the bumper. According to my dealer, Mazda doesn't have an OEM front license plate mount. They told me they would screw the plate to the front of the car if I wanted them to. The license plate is about somewhere between .25" and .5" from the bumper when it's mounted. I ordered some "Neoprene Rubber Strips Self Adhesive" to put on the back side of the plate to prevent any paint damage if it comes in contact with the bumper.

Installed it on my 2022 Mazda ND2 Miata. It was easy to install and fits perfectly. CravenSpeed has a simple 2 minute installation video on their YouTube page. I like that it has the plate sit perfectly under the aero of the hood. Personally I wish it was a tiny bit farther from the paint but no issue with bend or anything.

Works perfectly. The install was really easy, although I heard some people had issues with it. It took me about 5 minutes. Pull off the little removable piece covering the tow hook. I applied a whole lot of WD40 directly into the tow hook threads and to the bolt, it definitely helped. Then just try to screw it in by hand, you have to accurately attach it to the threads or it wont screw on properly. Its a cakewalk, looks great, and works perfectly! Note that the provided screws only fit the license plate. I could not install my plastic license plate cover because they were too short. However, Cravenspeed themselves sent me a package of screws that were roughly twice as long for FREE when I requested them. 10/10 for both customer service and the product. I would buy it again

The good news is that it fits my 2021 MX-5. The bad news is that, as the other reviews say, it's way too close to the bumper. After one drive and I can already see a scratch on my paint. I honestly don't know why they didn't think to put more clearance in the design. It should be trivial to test drive one of these and see how much the plates deflect, and then make sure there's a factor of safety in the design. The tool provided also does not fit in the grill when installing on a Miata. A very simple oversight that really reflects poorly on the designers as well as those who approved of the design. They also could've included an allen wrench either separately or even machined into the included tool. Overall really poor value given how little thought apparently went into this product. My recommendation if you're going to use this is to add some foam pads on the back of your plate, and also make sure you have the proper allen wrench and socket wrench on hand.
