  • Almost a Dream Come True
Style: Magnetic
I always wanted a Craftsman Tool Chest so when this arrived I was SO psyched. The cabinet easily came out of the excellent packaging and this old man found no problem in affixing the wheels and handle. I LOVED the soft closing drawers, and lovingly tried out the first... then the second... on down to the second to last and IT WOULDN'T OPEN. Neither did the bottom one. Errrrrr..... a quick call to the 800 trouble shooting line brought me first to someone in the Philippines but then, amazingly, I was connected to a woman in MO, sweet wonderful and patient Ashley, who worked in customer service at Waterloo Manufacturing. She actually has spent time on the assembly floor so she really knew her stuff. Unfortunately, after almost two hours (yes, that is "2") of Ashley talking me through the process (I really wished I had listened to my wife and did Yoga... the contortions of getting inside of the cabinet were torturous) we determined that the lock was installed incorrectly. Alas, I was unable to correct the issue myself (there WAS a solution, but I just couldn't manage it) and decided that my tool chest would just have to live without its lock (which Ashley expertly guided me through the steps to remove). Still... the chest is lovely and I am filled with joy every time I need to retrieve a wrench, screwdriver, angle grinder or whatever. ... show more

  • Major shipping damage possible with this item - inspect it closely when it arrives
Style: Magnetic
TL;DR – Craftsman makes great hardware, but this item does not ship well. When mine arrived at my doorstep, there was a great deal of both cosmetic and (more importantly) structural damage affecting how useful the item is. If you purchase this for yourself, inspect it carefully when it arrives, or perhaps consider buying this directly from a hardware store and transporting it yourself to avoid damage in shipping. Full disclosure - I purchased this item "Used - Like New" for a small discount and was told the item would arrive in the original packaging with some potential for the outer packaging to have cuts and scrapes. Since the box gets thrown away why not save ~$70 right? Upon delivery, I was shocked at the condition of the packaging. Multiple large tears were exposing the tool chest itself in several areas. Upon opening the box, and prior to assembly, I saw just how badly damaged the item itself had become. For starters, the lock mechanism had completely broken and separated so all of the drawers were locked shut. I was able to get into the top drawer and stick my hand in to lift the locking bar to allow for the other drawers to be opened. But the broken lock was just the start... 4 of the 6 drawers on the left side of the toolchest had their pins sheared off in transit, so they no longer closed "softly" which is a selling point for this item. I collected a few of them and took a picture (attached). There was a gigantic scrape across the top of the toolchest as well, and both front corners were deformed badly from what must have been a major drop in transit. Several of the drawers also take a lot of force to close, even when I realigned the tracks for every drawer. A few rivets that hold some of the steel plating together and sheared off because of rough handling in transit. Lastly (and most critically), there was major internal damage to a central post that all of the drawers hang off of and that allows them to open and close smoothly. This was bent so badly that the bottom two drawers don't open/close at all unless you use both hands and RAM them closed. The refund process for something this large is too onerous (weighs over 100lbs and the original packaging is completely destroyed at this point), and I've made my peace with having a semi-defective product like this. Perhaps you can save yourself the trouble? ... show more

  • Red, black, and chrome
Style: Magnetic
This has easy close drawers, rolls easily. Seems sturdy, and I like, even though silly, the paper towel holder. My complaint is that they don't give enough drawer liner to do the entire cabinet, and at $30+ a roll probably never happen.

  • Looks Decent and Sturdy - Dents Easily
Style: Magnetic
This cabinet looks nice and feels very sturdy. I like the rollers and pull/push bar to make moving it easily, and the rubberized covering for the top to make a decent work surface. Shortly after assembling this I noticed a significant dent in one of the handles. It may have happened in shipping or when I assembled it. Point is, however, that this dents fairly easily. Another minor gripe - it didn't come with enough drawer lining to cover all the drawers, so I had to order more of that. Still happy with the purchase in general. ... show more

  • This fit what I needed until I needed the top section
Style: Magnetic
The only thing I wish I had done was to order the upper portion (the hutch) at the same time. I thought I only needed this for my tools and accessories, but I was wrong. Get the hutch with this if you buy this. I love the soft-close drawers and the size of the drawers. This tool chest beats anything Harbor Freight carries. You can feel the quality and won't regret buying the hutch with it. ... show more

  • Well built with a good selection of drawers
Style: Magnetic
Arrived with minimal to no damage. I originally purchased the 4 drawer Craftsman tool box with 20 - 24 gauge steel which arrived with moderate to high damage. I gave it away and decided to go with this chest, that is made with thicker metal. The drawers have a nice feature where they slowly go back in, instead of slamming in. Drawers slide smoothly. Doesn't come with enough drawer liner material, so be prepared to buy more. The rubber mat for the top is okay but will probably get a piece of solid wood for the top. Good size, not too big or small. I use it to store my electrical equipment for working on cars. Would probably do well with holding sockets, ratchets and other heavy tools. Just had to screw in the wheels and handle, was able to do this by myself outside in the sun. Literally held the chest on one side with my shoulder while screwing in the casters. Use a drill to make things quick. ... show more
