  • Exceeded expectations
Initially, I had doubts about the accuracy of a miter box as many are wobbly and cut into the plastic base. I was surprised that the quality of materials for this Craftsman miter box was excellent. Strong metal guides and base with wide range of angles and easy adjustment. I checked each angle with squares and all were accurate. The miter joints fit perfectly. The price was excellent for the quality. Assembly was easy and clear. The saw is also very good quality. I've been cutting miters in cherry which has a janka hardness of 950 and the saw cuts right through with clean cuts. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • An Engineering Marvel, but I Regret Not Just Buying a Power Miter Saw
First, CRAFTSMAN is such an amazing brand. CRAFTSMAN is synonymous with trusted quality when it comes to tooling. Loved them since I was a kid. We only had one good screwdriver when I was growing up and it was a CRAFTSMAN. Anyways, I bought this saw for cutting door trim and wall trim in my kitchen after reflooring with Pergo flooring. What sold me on it was a Q&A. The question was: "can you lock in any angle? not just the common angles?" The answers from Robert Chandler and STANLEY BLACK+DECKER are FALSE. FALSE. FALSE. You cannot lock in any angle. It has pre-defined angle stops that lock you in. You CAN start cutting a piece without it being locked in, but you risk cutting a wrong angle due to it wobbling around when you start the cut. All this to say, you mostly must use one of the predefined stops. Another issue is, it has turn-twist knobs to keep the saw held above the material while you're setting up the cut. After doing a lot of cuts, constantly tightening and loosening these becomes cumbersome and annoying. Third, the clamps are not really clamps; they are little pieces of plastic that you twist to squeeze the material to press it against the fence. When you twist these to lock the cut in-place, it actually moves the board you are about to cut slightly so you have to learn to account for this or find out the sweet spot. It's a bit of a nuance. Last, cutting trim with this was good exercise, but not very fast. I could noticeably tell that the blade got duller about halfway through my project. That just meant more strokes. I did learn eventually how to make faster cuts. Think of it like a bowl. Your hand starts at the side nearest to you, and as you cut forward, let your hand go down into the bowl and come up at the top of the other side. Then reverse this. If you apply pressure, you will see you get a faster cut than just back and forth motion. Bonus comment: cutting long trim with this wasn't easy to balance on either side, but I guess that's true of any machine cutting long trim. Like I said, CRAFTSMAN is an AMAZING brand and this Miter Saw is seriously an AMAZING engineering marvel. It's built with such intelligence. But, if you have the money to buy a powered miter saw, my opinion is to just buy one rather than spend twice the time with a manual miter saw. To be clear, if powered miter saws didn't exist, this miter saw would be my #1 choice. Also, if I didn't have money to buy a powered miter saw, this saw would be my #1 choice as well. Like I said, I finished my entire kitchen project, but, at the expense of some lost time and some hassles. ... show more

  • No school like the old school.
For the new woodworker just getting started, or even professional carpenters who want to add that special touch to their craftsmanship, this is a great addition to your tool shed. Sure, most people want or need a powered miter saw for everyday work. But there are those times when a certain project requires a special fineness and finesse a powered miter saw just cannot deliver. Safely or otherwise. I bought this tool to cut small trim and crown molding. Still waiting on crown, but I have used it cutting trim and I am 100% fully satisfied, not only with the quality of the tool, but in the way it performs flawlessly. This box miter saw is built from steel construction and was a fraction the cost of other similar products made with plastic. Plastic... Are you kidding me? - LOL And made by Craftsman. I'mm 66 and have used their tools repeatedly on and off since my first job at 15. Back in 1973. I can safely feel comfortable in recommending this to anyone, even if you don't need one. It definitely adds a classic touch to your workshop and will probably draw many comments from others around you. I display mne proudly on top of my 4"x4" rolling tool cabinet. ... show more

  • True, modern, Craftsman quality- Very Little
Right out of the box, the instructions for assembly were printed so small, that even the camera on my cell phone wouldn't magnify them enough. What few diagrams there are, are too lacking, to assist with assembly. The picture on the box is the most help. Craftsman needs to put a video on YouTube, for assembly and use. Materials are not what one used to get with a craftsman tool. A rather flimsy product, with a very dull saw. I should have spent the extra 50.00 and ordered a quality tool/ ... show more

  • Clean cuts
Bought it to cut the baseboard since I did not want to use my power tools inside the master bedroom bathroom and make a big mess. This saw does just fine, it is accurate and cuts clean. It is portable and small enough to set up in the bathroom and that way I don't walk back and forth to cut outside. It does not spread the sawdust all over which make it for easier clean up. I've done dozen of cuts with no problem with different angles hope it stays sharp for a long time. A good addition tool to have. ... show more

  • Cant find replacement blades.
Cuts great and accurate but the blade Seems to be a bit dull. I purchased this refurbished, not sure if that has anything to do with the blade being a bit dull. Would like to know how to find a replacement blade.

  • Great trim saw for the price.
Very clean cutting saw. I used this saw to cut base molding for my kitchen and half bath. Worked great and am very happy I bought this saw.
