I don't know much about these tools, but I bought it because I had 8 chair legs to cut, and I wanted a clean cut and the ability to bundle them into pairs. Initially, I had doubts about the accuracy of a miter box as many are wobbly and cut into the plastic base. I was surprised that the quality of materials for this Craftsman miter box was excellent. Strong metal guides and base with wide range of angles and easy adjustment. I checked each angle with squares and all were accurate. The miter joints fit perfectly. The price was excellent for the quality. Assembly was easy and clear. The saw is also very good quality. I've been cutting miters in cherry which has a janka hardness of 950 and the saw cuts right through with clean cuts. Highly recommended. ... show more

    • Decent Mitre Saw for Money
Considering the cost, I found this to be a decent mitre saw. Assembly was not quick because the instructions are not clear. But looking at the picture on the box helped. It does lock in place preset stops however, if you need to cut an angle not at the preset, you will need to manually clamp it down so it doesn't move. That worked fine though. The saw blade was ok, not the smoothest, but got the job done. The posts for securing the wood to cutting table worked well. If you don't want to spend a couple hundreds of dollars on a miter saw for small project, this tool would work just fine for you. Mind you that you will be doing some more work than using a miter saw, so keep that in mind. The part that holds the saw blade in its place is plastic and I do feel it might break if you drop the tool. That was a bet of concern because that plastic is an important component that holds the blade and ensure it works as it should work. Luckily, it didn't break during my use of it. For the new woodworker just getting started, or even professional carpenters who want to add that special touch to their craftsmanship, this is a great addition to your tool shed. Sure, most people want or need a powered miter saw for everyday work. But there are those times when a certain project requires a special fineness and finesse a powered miter saw just cannot deliver. Safely or otherwise. I bought this tool to cut small trim and crown molding. Still waiting on crown, but I have used it cutting trim and I am 100% fully satisfied, not only with the quality of the tool, but in the way it performs flawlessly. This box miter saw is built from steel construction and was a fraction the cost of other similar products made with plastic. Plastic... Are you kidding me? - LOL And made by Craftsman. I'mm 66 and have used their tools repeatedly on and off since my first job at 15. Back in 1973. I can safely feel comfortable in recommending this to anyone, even if you don't need one. This miter saw and table are quite nice for the price. Problem is it was shipped with a broken part. Most of the parts are metal and easy to assemble. However the two parts that hold the saw vertical in the miter box as you draw the saw back and forth are made of thin plastic and one was broken making the saw useless. I tried to get hold of the Craftsman company to replace the part. But could not get hold of anyone or leave a message. The answering service was a recording that just kept trying to sell me some item I was not interested in. I just wanted to get the broken part replaced. I gave up and returned the miter box and got a cheap saw and plastic box. It took 10 days to receive the Craftsman Miter box. I could not wait any longer. I needed it for cutting thin trim that my power miter saw tends to shatter. Oh and the shipping box had no packing and all the parts (which you have to assemble) were just sliding around in the box. ... show more
