I’ve been buying dark corks for years. Every piece of cork that is Darkins will come with a smoky, smell and black residue. It is not the manufacturer. It is the nature of the product and how it’s made. This also removes most moisture as well so chipping and cracking can happen. But, do not be surprised if that is the case. I bought these cork tiles to match the existing tiles that are in the new house that we just bought. When I opened the first package, I was surprised at all the dust and debris that fell out onto the counter. I had hoped that it was just the one package, but sadly all 7 were like this. All of the tiles were coated in an ash-like dust. Each tile needed to be completely wiped off with a damp paper towel on both sides and all edges. Small pieces of cork fell off in the process of gently cleaning them. They also had a very strong charred smell to them. After all the cleaning and airing out... the tiles DO look nice on the wall. However, if I wasn't needing to match existing tiles, I would have returned this product. It was a lot of (unexpected) cleaning to get them to the point where I could use them. ... show more

This is a fun quick and easy DIY project. Instead of paying lots of money for a generic bulletin board. I made my own to fit the space I wanted it in. With a tape measure, X-acto knife, a yardstick, and Liquid Nails the cork boards can be easily cut and put in place. These won't stay attached to the back board on my desk (used double stick squares) but it might be that the board is warped. I added a lot more of the tape when they fell off, and so far so good.

This type of cork is not designed for crafts, it started crumbling in my hands, it is covered in black dust which gets on everything and has holes and gaps all through it.

Debris of some sort (maybe the dark dye) falls off the squares. Rather flimsy - some corners fall off even with careful handling. These do not come with adhesive strips, so you have to order them separately. They look nice, but not sure how long they will hold up. I attached them with Command strips, as the seller recommended.
