  • Terrific
Easy to use. Works as advertised. Brilliant product.

  • Works very well
I ordered this for my wife as she is the wine lover in the house. She has always wanted something to preserve her sparkling wines so she could drink a glass and not need to finish the bottle. She loves how easy it is to use. The only problem we had was the first time getting the topper off as we did not notice the line on the side that showed where the bar needed to be for it to release easily. Other than that kerfuffle on our part it has worked amazingly well. ... show more

  • Not as Revolutionary as the Original Coravin, But Still Useful
Since I'm an enormous fan of the original Coravin -- it changed how I drink wine -- I was excited to try the company's newest technology to preserve sparkling wine. After all, I often hesitate to open a bottle of champagne because my husband and I don't want to drink a whole bottle. This Coravin sparkling wine system can preserve it for up to two weeks. Unlike the Coravin for still wines, this will not keep the wine fresh for months. But for enjoying sparking wine over the course of a week or so, it is great. The device is truly unique. The box comes with a charger device, two (enormous) stoppers, four small CO2 canisters to fit inside the charger, and two bags to hold the bottles as a safety measure. Unlike with the still wine Coravin, you must pop the cork. After you pour your sparkling wine, you secure one of the stoppers on top of the bottle and press down the charger on top of until the light turns green. It takes just a few seconds. Put the bottle back into the refrigerator for another day. That's it. Although the operation is more intuitive than the still wine Coravin, it is also less protective. It relies on the pressure created by the CO2 to suppress the release of the gas from the wine itself. Especially given the price, I want to note that this preservation system is not the same as those that pump out air from a bottle. Those are for still wines, and don't work all that well even then. Coravin Sparkling is not the same, either, as attaching a champagne stopper. The massive Coravin stopper attaches to the neck of the bottle the way a much smaller and traditional sparkling wine stopper does, but the Coravin charger creates interior pressure. It doesn't stop the escape of gas from the bottle as much as it stops the escape of gas from the wine. This is what you pay for. And to do all that, the construction has to be solid, and the safety measures, extraordinary. A lot of fine dining restaurants and wineries have adopted the original Corvavin so that they can serve high-end wines by the glass without worrying about oxidation. Even for months, each glass is almost the same as the first. I can't help thinking that Coravin Sparkling was engineered for restaurants and wineries more than for the home consumer. The problem for sparkling wines becomes that the cork *has* been pulled and that the stopper must be removed, thus releasing all the gas, for every pour. This system is both less efficient and less protective of the wine. Note: the two types of Coravins are NOT interchangeable. You cannot use the original on sparkling wine (for one, the needle won't be able to pierce the denser cork), and you cannot use the sparkling version on still wine (for one, the thinner bottle might explode under the pressure.) Even though the still wine Coravin is equally pricey, I consider that to be a practical device for those of us who drink fine wine; I keep mine within easy reach in my wine cellar. I consider the Coravin Sparkling to be less practical and more of a luxury. Yes, I really like it, and yes, I will continue to use it. But it will not be a game-changer for me the way the original Coravin is. -- Debbie Lee Wesselmann ... show more

  • Trusted brand for preserving wine- great product for some people
The original Coravin blew my mind when I first discovered it. The ability to mix and match glasses, have only 1 glass, or just a taste of anything gave me a whole different way to enjoy wine with my hubby and friends. This is a similar concept (sort of) in that it allows you to extend the time you can enjoy your wine (sparkling or champagne, in this instance). The pros: - High quality Coravin product. This does not feel "cheap" in any way or that any corners were cut. It is, however, made in China. For a product at this price point, I was a bit surprised by this. - Comes with a good amount of accessories to get you started (4 CO2 cartridges, 2 bottle stoppers, 2 bags, and a storage box - I love that you can (and should!) store the charged bottles on their side. No issues with leakage or anything doing this. - Once you figure out how it all goes together, charging the bottle is pretty much effortless - Easy indicator on Coravin tool to show you when the bottle is at the right pressure The cons: - This is stupid expensive. Even by Coravin standards. At this price point, I would hope to keep a bottle preserved for longer than 2 weeks. That will be an experiment I have to try. - There's no great way to store this other than in the cardboard box. It's a decent enough presentation box but a nice stand like the original Coravin would have been nice. Things to note: - This CANNOT be used to sparkle a still wine. This could actually be dangerous as the bottles are not designed for it. - The two bags included are really a safety measure which I found interesting. They are to be used to hold any charged wine just in case a bottle breaks and to catch any glass. Seems a little overly cautious but it's nice to have as a precaution. Could also be used for blind tastings. LOL Overall, this is a bit of a niche product with a price tag to match. Does it work? Yes. Is it worth it? It really depends on how you enjoy your wine. I love sparkling so opening a bottle and it lasting more than a few days doesn't seem realistic to me. We have some stoppers that hold bubbles in sparkling for a day easily already (and they were like $10). However, this may be a good way to change how we drink sparkling in a similar fashion as the original Coravin and be able to have a couple of different tastes at a time. I could see this being a huge asset for a restaurant that may be reluctant to get into sparkling due to the risk of it going flat and not staying preserved. I'm looking forward to experimenting with this more and will update with anything notable! ... show more

  • Works Well, Even For Large Magnum Bottles
This sparkling wine preserver delivers on its promise. It is easy to use once you have watched the How-To video and as long as you follow the instructions. It is important that the top is placed properly on the bottle and that all foil around the neck of the bottle is removed prior to preserving your wine. At a cost of $400, it is quite pricey as a means to store sparkling wine. On most occasions, a standard size (750ml) bottle of sparkling wine is consumed the same day it is opened (at least in this house), so I recommend it for those who really enjoy the occasional glass of high-end sparkling wine and want to preserve that bottle for occasional use over the course of 2-3 weeks. I tried it on a magnum bottle (1500ml), and it worked perfectly. 2 weeks later, I opened the preserved bottle, and the champagne was as bubbly as the day I initially opened it. Great splurge item and recommended. ... show more
