  • Righteous tire at a very competitive cost
Color: Black
I grabbed a set of these to replace some Maxis Ikon 29s on my Marlin 7. The Ikons were carryover from the previous owner. Obviously, these are two very different tires, so it is like comparing apples to oranges. If I were using the bike on light trails only the Ikons were a great tire. They were decently lightweight for my purposes (it is a Marlin after all) and fast, BUT with the kind of trails that I typically ride, the lack of pronounced tread was killing me. I had zero confidence in the turns, and I was constantly slipping on the climbs. I looked hard at the Maxxis Minions when these caught my eye. Continental has a great product here. Right out of the very well packaged box, you could see the quality in the build. Be sure you go with the different front and rear, and double check to make sure you’re putting them on right room! I didn’t mix up front to back, but I got a little too excited and mounted one of them backwards. I had a little bit of issue getting the tires to seat properly (btw I’m still running tubes on the bike) but ultimately I got them on and, as you can see from the pictures, they look great. By the way, these are a 2.4, and they do barely squeeze in on the back, at the bottom bracket seat stay connecting point. There’s plenty of room under the front forks and on the top side of the seat stay. These tires are quite a bit heavier than the Ikon, but my initial impressions on my first quick ride, in mixed wet and dry conditions with sand, pine needles, leaves, and plenty of roots, immediately justified the purchase. Slippage on climbs is almost totally gone. Maybe once or twice I spun out a little bit on a root, but that’s just me putting too much torque down on the climb. On the downhill, I found myself much more confident and cornering much lower and tighter. I cannot say that these are better or worse than the comparable Maxxis set, but I’m looking forward to many miles of rides out of them. The bottom line is, if you’re even considering this set then you’re looking for a decently aggressive tire that is comparable to other top name brands on the market. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. ... show more

  • Better than Maxxis
Color: Black
Yea that’s right. I said what I said. The rubber compound on these are (Italian finger kiss). Compliments to the Chef on this batch. Great aggressive tire for the Northeast rocks and roots. Corners feel great. Very well rounded. Very happy with these.

  • 350 mile review; amazing grip and wear!
Color: Black
Bought this tire in August (now January) have done around 350 miles on the tire and hardly any tread has come off. The tire is super knobby and has latge outer knobs that are taller unlike almost every over mtn bike tire. The compound is sticky and very grippy, probably one of the grippiest tires you can get for a mountain bike. (although i haven’t tested the very knobby maxxis versions) This tire is awesome in loose dirt, gravel, light snow, mud, rain, and whatever else you throw at it besides a nail. The only downsides is that it is NOT a fast tire, and it’s difficult to get on a rim. ... show more

  • Worth every penny
Color: Black
Was tired of always using maxxis and wanted to try something new. These are super grippy tires, in so cal we have hard park with loose dirt on top and these tires handle very well.

  • Maxxis is simply better
Color: Black
REAL REVIEW BY A HUMAN: I thought I would break the cycle of only Maxxis tires I've been on for years now, only to be disappointed. The textures on the sidewall are weak points and leak sealant in the middle where all the little lines meet. It does this around the whole tire and some of the sidewall has even flaked off. It will not hold pressure, even after several rim tape jobs, the valves aren't leaking, they're just subpar tires. Also noticed the grip in the front is worse than my Maxxis Assegai that was on previously. Two stars because they look cool and the tread has held up alright on both the front and rear. I wouldn't buy another set, and hate to say it but Maxxis equivalents are just better. ... show more
