Description

Continental 0100173 Grand Prix 4-Season 700X23 Black Tire provides you with even greater puncture resistance thanks to the Duraskin fabric. Light-weight racing tires are especially susceptible to damage on the sidewall. Because of this, each year many cyclists are forced to abandon events, for instance in the Paris-Roubaix race. The Duraskin fabric reinforces the sidewall without significantly adding to the weight of the tire. In 2004, cyclists equipped with Duraskin tires had 80 percent fewer flats than those riding on other makes. The compound has also been modified for all-year-round use. You'll cover more kilometers on the Grand Prix 4-Season and won't have to worry about the tire compound hardening and thus the grip performance decreasing. The 23mm, 25mm and 28mm versions also make it possible to select the right tire for various road qualities and comfort requirements. The Grand Prix 4-Season tires also feature Vectran Breaker protection. Vectran is a lightweight, highly abrasion-resistant multi-fibered layer that sits under the tread, and is five times stronger than steel. Specs: Weight - 220 grams; Recommended PSI - 110; Maximum PSI - 120; Up - 10.

  • Smooth Ride
Size: 700x23 Color: Black
Bought these for added protection. I ride 25 miles a day on various conditions of dry/wet/stones/thorns/glass. Tread is not much, but my hope is it is enough for the wet conditions. Smooth ride even with the tread. Wish they had directional information to provide peace of mind on the water shedding aspect. Update: 2-months and my first flat. The tread had a big gash about the second week. It did not go through then it lasted another 1.5 months before the flat so guess the high TPI worked. Retrospect, I would probably save the money and buy a thicker walled tire. The thin wall would be nice for racing or something, but not worth it for commute. Tread is just enough to help stop sliding under wet conditions. Update: 6-months and several flats later. Every tire will get a flat so not too worried about that. My back tire is really worn and the front is looking pretty good. I need to rotate them (should have done sooner) to even the wear. The side-wall gash in the second week was in my front tire. Now the back has a 1/4" long gash that went through and cause several flats until I found it. Installed a vulcanizing patch on the inside of the tire and has held for the last two weeks. I just bought a less expensive tire (1/2 this price) but will wait until these can do no more to compare. Still a good tire, but if any tire will have problems, might as well save a little money. ... show more

  • As good as I hoped they would be
Size: 700x23 Color: Black
So there are so many opinions at the LBS and in the pack and so many reviews. After some solid reading of many reviews - these seemed to come out on top for my intended purpose. Age 5x and 175lbs - I do 10 miles / 30 mins of cardio every morning on a road bike to stay fit. Fairly smooth back roads. The stock Giant PR3's that came on the bike were worn out and I wanted to go from 25mm to 23mm to reduce rolling resistance. I tried these. They went on the rims fine, they set up fine and I run them at the full 120psi. I have no fear of going into corners at 25mph if the road is clean and dry. They feel more comfortable than the Giants - some call it "supple" - whatever - the reduction from 25 to 23 and I am probably MORE comfortable on these tires. The 2% speed improvement is nice too - but that is probably just the lower rolling resistance from the narrower tire. My 2 cents and YMMV ... show more

  • So far, they are good!
Size: 700x23 Color: Black
Easy installation, although there were no rotating direction markings on the sides. I did read in a post that the "thumb prints" should be facing forward when looking from above. Also, I did end up pinching my new continental tube, but didn't realize it until after inflating to the recommended pressure of 120 PSI. I had to use my tire tools to take the tube off and replace it. Luckily the tubes I replaced are in decent condition, so I just used one of those. I am concerned about using the puncture-resistant tube with these new tires though, since the tubes and tires are both thicker than normal racing tires and tubes. Seem to be very durable, especially compared to my previous tires, which were primarily for racing. I will provide am update after about a week, or 100 miles worth of riding. ... show more

  • Excellent tires
Size: 700x23 Color: Black
I had multiple flats before installing these tires and the tire liner I bought as well. Not a single one since! These are solid tires, very sturdy. I commute in the city and unfortunately there’s a lot of broken glass, but I haven’t had any issues since upgrading to these tires!

  • A nice balance of protection and speed
Size: 700x23 Color: Black
I've owned these tires for a few months now, and have overall been very satisfied with them. I commute to work on a Trek 1.2 and was constantly having issues with flats with my stock tires because my route contains a lot of random road debris. I was finally fed up with throwing away so much money on new tubes and patch kits, and after a lot of research on more armored tires, settled on the Grand Prix 4-Seasons. My desire was to find something that could resist punctures, but not slow me down so much that I would feel like I was riding a mountain bike. These tires have so far been a pretty good decision. I have had one puncture so far, which is still a bummer, but is far less than before (it sounded like a large piece of glass, which maybe could defeat any tire, regardless of armor). I do notice that my rolling speed is slightly slower than my older more slick tires, but now that I've worn them in, they definitely seem to be rolling better. Speaking of wearing in the tires, out of the box I had an EXTREMELY hard time putting them on my bike because they were so stiff. After my first flat I was dreading taking them off and on again to change the tube, but it does luckily seem like they wear in and stretch a bit after use, because the tire change wasn't too bad. I can't speak to the wet weather performance quite yet since it never seems to rain in California, but otherwise these tires are performing pretty well for me. ... show more

  • Great Product
Size: 700x23 Color: Black
Great tire, rolling resistance is a little high as expected compared to performance tires without puncture resistance, but not much. The grip and strength of the tire more than compensate for any loss in rolling resistance. Tires received were brand new with no defects

The media could not be loaded. Works fine. Nice and sticky. Comments about it having higher rolling resistance seem true. Feels amazing cornering tho

  • Not puncture proof
Size: 700x23 Color: Black
While I'm sure these are built for performance and speed, they're not good for puncture resistance. The fit was good though. Had to return it as I got a flat withing two weeks of use. The Gatorskin tires are the toughest tires and the ones I went back to in the end.
