Description

Continental 0100173 Grand Prix 4-Season 700X23 Black Tire provides you with even greater puncture resistance thanks to the Duraskin fabric. Light-weight racing tires are especially susceptible to damage on the sidewall. Because of this, each year many cyclists are forced to abandon events, for instance in the Paris-Roubaix race. The Duraskin fabric reinforces the sidewall without significantly adding to the weight of the tire. In 2004, cyclists equipped with Duraskin tires had 80 percent fewer flats than those riding on other makes. The compound has also been modified for all-year-round use. You'll cover more kilometers on the Grand Prix 4-Season and won't have to worry about the tire compound hardening and thus the grip performance decreasing. The 23mm, 25mm and 28mm versions also make it possible to select the right tire for various road qualities and comfort requirements. The Grand Prix 4-Season tires also feature Vectran Breaker protection. Vectran is a lightweight, highly abrasion-resistant multi-fibered layer that sits under the tread, and is five times stronger than steel. Smooth Ride

Bought these for added protection. I ride 25 miles a day on various conditions of dry/wet/stones/thorns/glass. Tread is not much, but my hope is it is enough for the wet conditions. Smooth ride even with the tread. Wish they had directional information to provide peace of mind on the water shedding aspect. Update: 2-months and my first flat. The tread had a big gash about the second week. It did not go through then it lasted another 1.5 months before the flat so guess the high TPI worked. Retrospect, I would probably save the money and buy a thicker walled tire. The thin wall would be nice for racing or something, but not worth it for commute. Tread is just enough to help stop sliding under wet conditions. Update: 6-months and several flats later. Every tire will get a flat so not too worried about that. My back tire is really worn and the front is looking pretty good. I need to rotate them (should have done sooner) to even the wear. The side-wall gash in the second week was in my front tire. Now the back has a 1/4" long gash that went through and cause several flats until I found it. Installed a vulcanizing patch on the inside of the tire and has held for the last two weeks. I just bought a less expensive tire (1/2 this price) but will wait until these can do no more to compare. Still a good tire, but if any tire will have problems, might as well save a little money. ... show more

Ideal road bike tire for most uses

These tires are, in my opinion, ideal for hard day rides and some commuting. They are very puncture-resistant, but pay for it will a little extra weight. They are also super grippy on pavement, but wear a little fast. But for the puncture-resistance and the grip I get, the trade-off aren't bad. I guess you get what you pay for. I've stopped shopping around for tires, and just replace worn tires with these. ... show more

Great general purpose road tire.

This is a very durable tire that rarely gets flats. It also gives a smooth ride and grips around corners extremely well. It is not quite as durable as Gatorskins and it is not the low resistance racing tire like the 4000s, but it a great in between tire that has characteristics of both. Excellent tires

I had multiple flats before installing these tires and the tire liner I bought as well. Not a single one since! These are solid tires, very sturdy. I commute in the city and unfortunately there’s a lot of broken glass, but I haven’t had any issues since upgrading to these tires!

Great Tire but Weak Sidewalls

I like Continental and have tried three different tires now. For the kind of riding I do (in Korea), where there may be slight debris and some unpredictable surfaces near the shoulders of many roads I ride, I've liked the Grand Prix best. They give me a little added toughness and confidence with the slight tread surface. The one complaint though? Sidewalls are too fragile. They're great if you're careful, but if you don't hit stones or debris squarely, you're a bit unprotected. I glanced off a stone and it sliced my sidewall and gave me a flat. I repaired the flat, but once i had the tire on I noticed a slight bulge in the area and upon further inspection saw that it was only being held by a few hardy threads in the sidewall. I made it home, but replaced the tire immediately. I would say that as long as one is careful not to hit any stones at an angle (which hitting stones is never one's aim anyway), these are great tires. ... show more

Tough tires and they feel great for 23c

I ride on some of the worst roads in the state of Michigan and these tires hold up great. Long road rides or short sprints; doesn't make a difference. These are awesome and very durable. I'd recommend a wider tire than the 23's on mine for comfort, but they're really nice either way. I'd recommend them to anyone with a nice roadie. ... show more

Grippy, Tough Tires

These are my new favorite tire. I ride a number of backroads, not gravel roads, but there is this fine gravel on them and smaller rocks that just KILL tires - cute, scrapes, gouges - I have the 23 version of this tire and no visible cuts in the tire after 450 miles. Plus they ride smooth. I got them as a decent winter tire for rain and maybe snow, I will post an update in a few months. They do grip really well, got caught twice in some rain and I felt sure of their grip around corners. ... show more
