  • Dodga Dakota, no more chirping
I was dealing with a "chirping" sound coming from the fan belt area of my vehicle (1999 Dodge Dakota V6 3.9L) for the last month or two. Thinking the tensioner was worn (130k miles on the truck) as there was a lot of movement in it when the truck was running, I replayed the tensioner, tensioner pulley, idler pulley and fan belt (a Dayco fan belt). Everything seemed OK for a few days and then.....the dreaded "chirp" returned one morning. I troubleshooted all the fan belt driven components and their pulleys, thinking something like a bearing or some inner piece was beginning to fail, and I could no pin-point anything. I even replaced the alternator brushes as I heard a slight chirping sound when rotating the rotor by hand, but it did not solve the problem. After spraying water on the belt as it entered the AC compressor pulley and hearing the noise die away immediately then return after a few seconds, I knew I had some sort of fan belt and/or pulley alignment issue. I ended up trying this Gatorback belt because of the numerous posts I had read online of people having similar chirping/squealing noises that they could not fix until they purchased a Gatorback belt. I was very skeptical it would solve the problem, seeing as how I had a brand new belt on their to begin with. I ordered the belt and put it on as soon as it arrived, started my truck up, and it was absolutely quiet. The belt has been on for a few days and I haven't heard anything. If that changes, I will come back and update the review, but so far, so good. Conclusion: Great belt and GREAT price at $17. The cheapest belt at Autozone for my truck was $27 for some Valucraft junk, so this price seems very good. Solved my aggravating "chirping" noise problem that I had for months. Its only been a few days, but if this is a permanent solution I will be buying Gatorback belts for life! Vehicle specs: 1999 Dodge Dakota Sport V6 3.9L (with AC) EDIT: Turns out the belt did not solve the problem. It worked for a few days (no chirping noise) then the noise came back one morning again. The power steering pulley was out of alignment (it was pushed inwards on the shaft, towards the drivers compartment a bit too much). Went and rented a pulley removal/installer tool and pulled the power steering pull outwards until it was in better alignment with the alternator pulley and I haven't heard a sound for months. The belt is still nice quality and for the price you can't really beat it, but if your problem is alignment related then you really need to go to the source of the problem. Buying a new belt for an alignment issue is like using fan belt dressing, it will simply mask the real problem and is not a real fix. ... show more

  • Fits 03 dakota 3.9 and works great
Fit perfectly in my 2003 Dodge Dakota with a 3.9 and eliminated all squeaking. My old belt squeaked like crazy despite having only about 10,000 miles on it and belt conditioner didn't really help, the only thing that worked was putting gold bond powder on it and that only worked for a couple days at a time. I put the poly-v belt on and all squeaking stopped even with wildly varying weather conditions (only been a few days though). I doubt it was any easier or harder to install than any other belt. If you have trouble getting it to fit just make sure its completely seated on all the pulleys correctly... Almost thought I got the wrong belt for a few seconds before I noticed it was just sitting wrong on the compressor pulley. ... show more

  • Great product
Needed belt for my truck and Continental is good quality. Saved a bunch over what local auto store wanted for the same exact belt.

  • NO MORE SQUEEKING!!!!
My 97 Ram 2500 and a bad belt squeeze. Thought it was a pulley issue, but turns out it was just the belt. Had this on for 3 weeks now and it hasn't squeeled since!

  • 1999 Dodge Dakota squeak and steering pump leak
1999 Dodge Dakota perfect fit. Finally ended a long journey with squeaks and steering fluid leak. High pitched squeak. Move steering wheel and see if get more squeak. Check fluid. Fluid low check for leak. Do this first. Replace high pressure hose. There is a mix between standard and metric use what fits best when replacing hose so you dont strip it. High pressure hose is deceiving. It sprays fluid everywhere and can make you think you have a leak on pump. Still leaking? See if leak is coming from return line or if from pump. If you have to replace the pump its really easy. 4 bolts. One bolt has nut for the ground wires. Nut is 15 mm. Bolt below is 14 mm. Borrow the proper tool to pull the pulley from the old pump (ad auto, autozone). Use the proper puller. That same puller tool will put the pulley back on the replacement pump. DO NOT hammer the pulley on. Get the proper tool. (the auto parts people may not give you the right tool so dont listen to them). Google the utube vid for the correct tool. Its really easy. No leak but still a squeak? with motor running spray water on pulley under the serp belt. if squeak stops for brief period get a gator type serp belt. ... show more

  • Nice belt
It's a belt, what can I say? My belt was squeaking. I replaced it with this one and no more squeaking! The price was great compared to the local parts stores. I will say that the packaging was not the same as the pic, but who cares? I dont, it works perfect.

  • Stopped the squeal immediately!
It is amazing what a quality part will do. My Dodge Ram pickup always squealed when accelerating. I took it to a shop and they said the belt was fine, and the tensioner was new. They said it was just the way dodges are. BS...This belt cured the problem the instant it was installed. Installation was quick and easy, took 10 minutes. ... show more
