I ordered two of these extra wide. The good news is they are solid and the welds are very good. The downside is consistency. The longer of the two is perfect but the shorter ( even tho the angle is sharper) lands short of the bottom of the kettle. It will work fine but won't pick up as much as the longer. There are nice smooth welds all the way around. I use 2 of these in my brew kettle, one on the bottom port aimed down to get more beer out of the kettle at the end of the brew and the second one in the upper port aimed to the side to help setup a whirlpool at the end of the boil. I wasn't expecting much from the upper one since it isn't what it was designed to do, but wow, it made such a good whirlpool I needed to step back to be sure I wouldn't get pulled in. ... show more

Questionable weld quality - I wouldn't use this for anything that needs to be sanitary. The extra wide tube (I think it's 5/8") is great - no clogging, doesn't restrictions flow like the 1/2" dip tubes. I'm using one of these in my brew kettle (gets boiled for at least an hour every use) and one in my later tun (doesn't need to be sanitary). Minus 1 star for the sloppy TIG job. ... show more

    • Won't thread in to a 1/2 NPT ball valve

Bought this to replace the pick up tube/trub dam on my SS Brewtech kettle because it kept getting clogged with hops. I couldn't get it to thread in to the ball valve. I also tried to see if it would fit other known 1/2" NPT fittings and it wouldn't. Maybe I got one with a bad thread? Otherwise its a well made pick up tube. Even the weld is nice and clean! I have seen a few nad reviews that made me question buying this. One issue was the crappy welds. Not sure if they called the pro welder to do mine but this weld is perfect. My only regret is to buy this before you bore your hole and weld your couplers in. Mine isnt down far enough in my sparge pot because of my own doing. Excellent product! Added dip tubes upstream and downstream of the pot's bulkhead ball valve. Were able to draw more usable product from the pot and accommodate drawing off foam-free product into jars during our Mayhaw Jelly harvest this year. This worked out well for my 10 gallon Igloo mash tun! I brew in a bag so I don't use a false bottom. I attached this directly to the cooler bulkhead and it worked out great to suck up the remaining wort after pulling the bag!
