Beware the beginning if you’re not into the fated/instant love type of situation. It was a bit cheesy! But once you got into the meat of the story.. oh, man! It was such a good story! I couldn’t put it down! It ends on a cliff hanger, but for the main plot not the love story. The characters are beautifully broken. It makes their love story even stronger and brings them together in the most beautiful of ways!     • I almost let the title dissuade me...

Ends on sort of a cliffhanger but the story is great! I did not like the title of this book although I see where it came from. I didn't think it really "captured: the characters. Aurora grew up in a pack with her parents and brother Jeremy. All was good until they were attacked, Jeremy killed and Aurora being hurt very bad. She survived but life was never the same again. She was Alpha but was never treated like it as she has problems shifting. She wasn't really treated well at all, told she was an Alpha but treated like a poor relative. Ares has quite the reputation as a fierce and cruel fighter, He is searching for a magical stone and will let nothing stop him. He and his pack approach the pack Aurora belongs to, ready to battle, realizes Aurora is his true mate. Her mother strikes a deal with Area, no battle with her pack and Ares would get Aurora. Aurora is terrified of Ares. She has heard about his skills on the battlefield and knows she possesses part of what he is searching for. Will she die? Does he feel the attraction, the need as she does? Both characters hold secrets that will affect their lives, and their bond to one another but more danger is closing in on them.... I really loved this story despite the title and the fact it is somewhat of a cliffhanger. It can be read as a standalone but the story does continue in the next book. Ares is fierce but there is another side to him...literally. Aurora is quite feisty which I was happy for. She is an Alpha, she has the skills needed, she just needs someone who accepts her. There is a lot of psychological pain within these two. Aurora because of the was she was treated and both of them because of a death of someone they loved. ... show more

    • Lot's of spice, but not enough character consistency

I love spicy scenes. Not sure why, but in this one I started scrolling through. They were very hot, so I think it was likely because I just didn't connect with the characters. Young shifter feeling slighted by her parents, because now that her brother is gone, they are supposedly grooming her to be the alpha, but she constantly self-rightously feels slighted by them. Runs into her mate and he helps her come into her own, by giving her the chance to show her leadership and strength...but.... When she is given a chance to self-sacrifice by sharing her secret with her mate, she instead lets him attack a pack she is close with, knowing he will maim and hurt or possibly kill many of them. When she is driven there, she all of a sudden shows self-sacrifice by jumping out of the care to heroically tell him to stop beating up on her friend. Girrrlll...the time to be heroic and brave was before he kicked the crap out of them, like you knew he was going to do. Yet she constantly talks about how worthy she is. Also, isn't being an alpha an inherent thing...yet she talked about being groomed to be one only after her brother was killed. Her friend was driven back to their jail, but other people ran back across dangerous hound lands instead, when they could have just gotten in the car. Just too much stuff like that, where the story needed an impartial edit/pushback, to make the story feel cohesive and make the characters actions feel more authentic to the dialogue. ... show more

Action, adventure, mystery, deceit, violence, loss and love compete within the pages of this story. The delicate nature of each one is handled with a sensitivity that held me spellbound from the beginning. I throughly enjoyed reading this book and I look forward to reading the next book in the series. The characters are fascinating and still somewhat mysterious. There are questions remaining and more mystery to solve. Great storytelling. ... show more

This book! 😮💨 So good! Nice and spicy! Fated mates who attract very quickly! A strong MFC who actually accepts her own responsibilities. A MMC who takes the “touch her and 💀” trope and turns it into “look her way and I’ll disembowel you while your mother watches”. He is so fiercely protective, but also NEVER stops her from handling her own battles. Great romance. Strong couple. So much plot to go with the spice! ... show more

Wow!! What a great story... Incredibly sensual with pulse pounding scenes of action and emotional turmoil. This book kept me glued to the pages and had me on edge more and more. I love Aurora and Ares/Mars and can't wait to see what happens next.

I loved this book from the very first page. I enjoyed the details of the characters and the locations (details are my jam!) I read a lot of books each year (between 250 & 350) I really like it when the author is so very into his/her work that they make the reader feel as though they are part of the story. In this story from Emilia Rose (new-to-me author) I felt as though I could feel the fog, I could feel the energy between the characters, not just the spicy stuff, but the anger, fear and even dread. I will be reading the next books in this series because Cliff hangers are NOT my friend!! LOL. But I need to see how Ares/Mars & Aurora turn out. Emilia Rose, THANK YOU for all your words, I will be reading more from you ! ... show more
