When this little rake showed up, I held it in my hand and immediately felt like a miniature groundskeeper from a fairy tale. The thing is small but has some serious weight to it, not flimsy at all. My first thought was, I usually use my hands for this kind of work like some kind of garden barbarian, so this is probably an upgrade. The 9 flat tines are surprisingly sturdy, no bending when I attacked some hard soil that had been sitting there judging me. The handle fits nicely in my palm without causing blisters or that awkward grip that makes your wrist complain later. The hanging hole is a small touch but means I can actually find it next time instead of digging through the shed like I'm on a treasure hunt. It works great for loosening up soil around my flower beds, spreading mulch without making a mess, and gathering leaves from tight spots where the big rake just laughs at me. The metal construction feels like it could survive me sitting on it by accident, which is always my secret durability test.     • Colwelt 16½" small hand rake for gardening
This review is for the Colwelt 16½" small hand rake for gardening, which was $12.99 at the time of my order. This rake is a bit larger than the size of a large salad serving fork. It is a good size for container gardening which we have lots of them. There are 9 flat tines which I think would be better if they were slightly narrower but not round. The metal these tines are made from is carbon steel which is a good heavy duty steel however it will rust. If any of the powder coat finish chips off the steel is now open to air & moisture and will start to rust unless to do something about it like coat the steel with a little bit of oil. Yes, olive & vegetable oil as well as car oil will all work. I would have preferred to see this made out of stainless steel. The tines are well attached to the handle which makes the rake feel sturdy. For this review I also tried this hand rake in some old compacted dirt and it was able to loosen up the soil without any issues. The handle is okay, I would like to have seen a more ergonomic handle versus a rubber dipped piece of metal. Overall this is not a bad little rake which allows you to rake up to 2 feet away. This hand rake has been a great addition to my garden tools. The quality is impressive right out of the box. The high‑tension carbon steel feels strong and durable, and the anti‑rust coating is smooth with no rough spots, bends, or flaws anywhere on the tines. All nine (9) flat tines are stiff enough to break through compacted soil and pull out stubborn weeds, but they still have enough resilience to gently collect leaves and debris without tearing up my plants around the weeds. The rake measures exactly as described. The rake looks lightweight to me but it has the right weight to handle the work in the garden and be held and lifted by me. The rake also came with a pair of gardening/work gloves. They’re sturdy, have no odor, and fit my hands comfortably without irritation or slipping off. The bright yellow and white color makes them easy to spot if I set them down in the garden. I’m not sure what material they’re made of, but they do a good job protecting my hands. The handle is comfortable for me to hold and easy to grip. The non‑slip plastic feels secure in my hand, and it also fits my husband’s larger hands well. I like that the top of the handle has a screw‑on cap with a hanging hole for storage, but what really stood out to me is that the screw top means I can attach a pole if I want to extend the reach. That makes this rake even more versatile—usable as a hand tool or as a longer rake for standing work just by adding a screw‑bottom pole. Functionally, it’s been excellent and easy to use. I used it for spring clean‑up in my flower beds, plant beds, and raised garden beds, and the reach and control were perfect for pulling out dead leaves and debris. I even used it to loosen debris stuck over the storm drain grate on our street so I could sweep it away and help reduce flooding in front of our home. It handled all of that without bending or showing any wear. For the sturdiness, the quality of the materials, the comfortable grip, and the versatility of being able to extend the handle, the value is very reasonable and affordable to me. This Colwelt Hand Rake is a nice small size for raking leaves or mulch around plants without running them over. It has nine metal tines, with a spread of about 5 inches. (Yes, metal—not plastic as in the product description.). It has a long, thick, easy-grip plastic handle. (The tip needs to be screwed on. No biggie, but not sure why they didn’t just do that.) This rake is comfortable to hold and does a great job of raking leaves or mulch between plants. They also throw in a cute pair of decent quality white and yellow polyester gardening gloves with bees on the top side and yellow plastic palms. Fantastic! I used this rake to rake out my garden bed before planting. I like the size—small enough to easily draw between plants without flattening them. The tines are relatively wide, with rounded tips, so that they rake the leaves without spearing them. Garden hand rakes can be had for $9 to $21. Most cost around $10 to $16. At the list price of $11.99, this hand rake is priced about average, even a bit on the cheap side. Given the high quality of this rake, and the fact that it comes with a nice set of gardening gloves, this hand rake is a great deal! This is a high-quality rake, with effective metal tines and a comfort grip plastic handle, at an amazingly good price. And they throw in a handy pair of nice “bee” gardening gloves with plastic palms. Just the thing for safely raking leaves or mulch between plants! Happy raking! ... show more

I've so needed this hand rake . . . we live on a densely forested acre of Ponderosa pines, and large amounts of pine needles collect all along the perimeter of our home and in the rugged landscape of rock steps and pathways. This hand rake has been a tremendous help in getting into the edges, corners, and small spaces of the deck and outdoor living area where a standard rake cannot effectively go. It's a losing battle to try to remove all the pine needles from landscape rock, but where the needles collect and get deep enough to thatch, the tines can grab and pull large clumps which helps to mitigate the fire risk we live with. The rake is strong and the grip is comfortable. The endcap is smartly designed both as a convenient means to hang the rake and also to cover the threads where a longer pole can be inserted if desired. A pair of rubber coated gardening gloves was also included. I'm very pleased with what this smaller hand rake can do. It's just the right size handy, lightweight, versatile, effective garden and landscaping tool that makes detailed raking that much easier. ... show more
