I want to give a bit of backstory. We have recently gotten more serious about hiking and backpacking and I spent a week looking and comparing shoes before deciding on these. And I'm glad I did! We're out in Arkansas, in the Ouachita Mountains, and are preparing to do the entire Ouachita Trail in one go next year (it is 223 miles), so I needed to prepare way in advance with good shoes. As of late, we've been doing anywhere from 5-8 miles a day and are getting ready to do upwards of 10-15 miles a day. So far, I love these! There is a lot of different terrain as you're going up and down these mountains, and the grip on these has proven to be great. They provide great ankle support, while not coming way up your ankle/leg. I've "rolled" my ankle a couple times, and I think they've paid for themselves just in saving my ankles! They are extremely comfortable and lightweight weight and have made all the difference in our hikes. They've also held up having to walk through small creeks as well; I haven't gotten them completely wet yet though. The material they're made with is fantastic, they're very well made. I'll try to post another update in a month or two when I've got a few more miles on them. But as of right now, I definitely recommend these if you're going out hiking or backpacking.

EDIT: 8 JULY 2023 The third picture is what this review update is all about. That was our average steps for the past days while speed running through Hongkong’s sights. There were days where we walked 25,000-26,000 steps. Definitely not for the faint of legs and knees. But you know what? We didn’t get a single blister, sore/ foot/ankle pain. And we owe it to the most comfortable hiking shoes ever. My partner also bought his pair (last pic) and it arrived a day before the trip. We highly recommend this pair if you’re up to serious hiking miles (although we’re skeptical using this on tropical jungle hikes). ********************************************************** This is my second pair of Newton Ridge. I bought my first one in our local Columbia store. I’ve tried different pairs of hiking shoes/boots over the years and this by far is the most comfortable. The sizing is just right-with enough room for a good pair of socks and ample space for my toes. After two years of use, my first pair showed the wrinkles stated by some of reviewers here. When I brought up this issue in our local Columbia store, I was advised of a specific shoe care kit for leather boots, that I can buy from any leather shoe store. Hopefully this pair will last longer than the previous one. Generally, a well-rounded hiking boot. Although, I’m a bit apprehensive wearing these on a wet and muddy tropical jungle trek.

Bought this for my Costa Rica trip and was wearing it almost everyday. Great traction and it is waterproof (as long as water level does not go above the boot opening, which is expected since these are not water shoes). It is sufficiently lightweight and I did not feel it heavy on my feet after 1-2 trial hikes. It is easy to clean once muddy- just have to wipe the outside with a wet cloth.

Bought these for a trip to the northern California redwoods in March. There was room enough for my bunions and some thicker wool socks. We walked several miles every day for about 4 days and on our last day, on a 4 mile walk my feet finally started to feel it. I was also 6 months pregnant lol. These boots exceeded my expectations. I didn't walk through any running water, but it was a bit wet and muddy and I didn't have any problems with leaks.

Got these to wear island camping with my bf, we had to kayak there and live on the island and beaches for the weekend. These shoes held up amazingly. I wish I had broken them in prior but that’s on me. Besides occasionally folding and rubbing in the wrong place these shoes did amazingly. The water didn’t even bother me too much either. I do recommend a good sock with them though. Also I am usually a 6.5-7 depending on the shoe. The reviews had me panicking that I would order the wrong ones. I ended up going with the 6.5 wide and they fit perfectly.

Like: Like Very Much. * Very Light, very comfortable, nice looking, classic looking (SOME BRAND boots look scary). * The whole time (9-mile hiking), felt comfortable. * My feet don't look big (I like shoes that make my feet look small and slim, these are the shoes). * I got realized the good hiking boots make big differences for comfortable or not. * I normally wear 6M or 6W. But for hiking boots, I ordered 6.5W (I have round toes and wide feet), and they are perfect. My toes didn't have to be curled up or squeezed in. * Prior to these hiking boots I felt so tired after hiking; but w/these boots, I still felt full of energy. * Also I tried several good brand hiking shoes and boots, they were all so uncomfortable. * Shoe laces stayed being tied the whole hiking time (I didn't have to stop and retie). * My co-hiker liked my boots and she will get one too. ** Plus the low ankle hiking shoes (not boots) rubbed my ankles. So if you experience the problem as well, I recommend boots. Dislike: No dislike, only hope they make more pretty colors. I wanted and liked a lot of Ash Gray w/RIP Tides, but they were all sold out.
