  • Great, comfortable pants!
I really like these pants. I'm 5'5 and 140lbs with a curvy build, and I went with a size 8 in these. They are loose, and could size down to be more stylish, but sizing up one from my normal size 6 was super comfortable. They're very easy to move in. I bought these for a long trip out to Yosemite, Sequoia, and King's Canyon from the east coast, so these needed to be 1) easily packable and take up little space, 2) reasonably stylish, since they would be my only long pants 3) dry fast and function well for hikes in varied temperatures and very importantly 4) be comfortable for traveling and hiking. In short, these pants worked well on all accounts. 1) I bought two pairs - black and "Pulse," which is a grey with faintly purple undertones. They are thin, so they pack very easily and don't take up much space at all. They also release their wrinkles within a few minutes of wear, so you can ball them up pretty roughly and still have them look good later. 2) Like I mentioned, I sized up a little on these for ease of movement. I was a little worried these would look like I was wearing scrubs everywhere, but they're really not bad. Sizing up a little, you can't really see underwear lines, and the boot cut fit shows that you still have a figure, so they look good in an "outdoorsy" kind of way. 3) These dry very nicely. You can wash them in the sink at night and have them dry by morning. Also, my kids splashed water at my husband and I while I was wearing these pants, and my husband's jeans were all streaked with water; my pants just had beaded droplets that fell off. Also, when I got persistent dirt on these, I was able to take a wet sponge and just rub the spot away. That being said, these pants still breathe amazingly well, and were very comfortable in the desert (Death Valley, they did very well). They feel breezy and light, don't retain moisture and sweat at all, and have a decent SPF rating. One thing worth mentioning is that the Pulse color worked great in the desert, but the black does feel a little hotter in direct sunlight. During cold nights, these pants are very thin, and are certainly not made for cold conditions. If you're looking to do some hiking under fluctuating temps, I'd think about bringing along a thin base layer to put under these. 4) Last of all, comfort. These are the most comfortable hiking/traveling pants I've ever had. They have a snap button and a drawstring, so they're reasonably adjustable; this makes them very forgiving for days spent hiking and climbing and nights spent with junk food and beer. Sizing up a little allowed for great range of movement, and the drawstring allows for more size variance. Being 5'5, they didn't drag on the ground while I wore hiking shoes, but I did need to tuck them under my heel in flip flops. Overall, these are great pants for traveling and hiking. I haven't put them through a lot of washes, so I can't speak for their long term durability, but they were very comfortable and performed well. ... show more

  • Huge differences between sizes
So I gave these pants 5 stars because I love the material, the style, they're lightweight and stretchy but durable. Easily worn for hiking or out running errands. They're not lined or totally waterproof more of a mid season moderate weather pant. The only thing I am having an issue with is that the first pair I got was a 6, I'm usually a 4 but had gained a little weight and di not want them to be tight because I hate things that are too tight and cut in and honestly I didnt know if a 6 would be big enough. 6 fit perfect at first try on but they do start to sag a bit but it too much u til I lost the weight. So I ordered a 4 10lbs later and they're WAY smaller then the 6. They're snug in the waist and actually may just have a firmer style waist with less give it's been about 6 months between purchases so maybe a newer edition that is nowhere near as stretchy. At any rate I was sort of sad that the 4 didnt fit perfect because I really needed smaller ones. Going to wear them a while and see if theyll start to loosen up like the others do but the sizing just seems sort of weird. For reference I am 5'6" somewhat athletic and have some booty and thighs. with the 6 at purchase I was around 145 and with the 4 i am 135. ... show more

  • True to size, loosen with wear, flattering fit even on a big butt
I am a curvy size 14 & ordered a 16 in these pants, as I didn't want them skin tight. I find that Columbia runs small (in tops & bottoms) but these are true to size, and they stretch out a bit with wear - so I could have gotten my normal size 14. The 16s are perfectly fine, slightly loose, comfortable. I agree with others that these are extremely flattering. They are very thin fabric, but not 'cool'. I wore them in 85 degree heat & found them to be too hot. I suffered through it anyway because of the spf factor & overall comfort. I like the 'pulse' color because I can wear black hoodie/ tops with it & not look like I am dressed to rob banks. These pants could easily be dressed up (especially in black) - but I work from home so wear them with crocs & I don't feel like such a slob when I'm in public because the pants look so much more 'finished' than sweats or yoga pants. I'm very happy with these. Hopefully they don't get discontinued like everything else that is great seems to. ... show more

  • Best pants ever.
These are the BEST pants! They are incredibly comfortable and have amazing stretch - I like having lots of freedom to move. I wore these on a week-long vacation through the Canadian Rockies and they lasted through everything: They dried extremely quick after I was splashed by waterfalls and rain. They didn't lose their shape on hours-long hikes. They kept me cool in the hot sun. I easily wore a pair of fleece-lined leggings underneath on a glacier hike, and I was plenty warm and braced from the intense wind. The fit is fantastic. I'm a size 8, and the size 8 fit perfectly. I bought 2 pairs, and they are totally worth the investment. They hold up perfectly in the washer and dryer. I'm also a dance teacher and see myself wearing these to class. They feel better than my athletic pants from Athleta, Lululemon, Free People, Old Navy, and H&M. Picture is from Athabasca Glacier taken by my husband :) ... show more

  • Great basic pants for hiking or everyday wear!
These pants are great for hiking and everyday wear! Very comfortable and repel light amounts of moisture well. There are a few things to be aware of though...these are somewhat stretchy so they will get a little looser fitting than how they feel when you first put them on which means you could probably order a size down from whatever you'd wear based on their size chart, also they are lacking belt loops so you won't be able to attach any extras you might need while hiking, minimal pockets so these are not good if you need extra spaces to carry a lot of stuff. Other than those things, these are very comfortable, super light weight and a flattering fit that can easily be worn with hiking boots. ... show more
