  • D2 perfection!!
I love this knife!! I see a lot of comparisons to the K Bar or the Ontario iterations of this knife. I don't want to do that because I think all three have various characteristics that differ from each other and make them unique and all three have different reasons why like each of them. Having said that I will say I carry this knife more than any of the other ones. It is heavier with a thicker Tang. I also absolutely love the D2 steel sharpens very quickly and this knife is tough as nails!! I am adding a picture of the tang of the Leatherneck compared to the K Bar and the Ontario simply to show size differences. ... show more

  • My new favorite bushcraft/survival knife
This has quickly become my new favorite bushcraft/survival knife - surpassing my SRK, Recon Tanto, Trail Master and Gerber Strongarm. It can handle big chores like chopping and splitting like the Trail Master but with about half the weight, and it does the fine carving and feathering tasks as well as the SRK and Strongarm but with the advantage of the heavy duty pommel that can be used hammer nails and tent stakes, crush roots and nuts, and break glass or smash rocks. It is an improved rendition of the venerable Ka-Bar Marine knife with a better, more ergonomic grip, and a beefier full tang, hand guard and pommel. And the Secure-X sheath is very well designed and holds the knife securely without rattle, and offers plenty of lashing points to carry on your belt or attach to your pack or vest. The only question you should ask yourself is whether you want the classic bowie style point, or the tanto point. I would definitely consider the tanto point if I did not already own the Recon Tanto. ... show more

  • Probably my favorite knife
Been using this knife fairly regularly for 4 years now and it's great so far. I've betaned through wood and used it extensively for making feather sticks, opening packages and other applications including cutting produce. For every task except cutting produce it works excellently, as a thicker blade knife is not as easy to cut produce but will work in a pinch. The handle is very comfortable and the blade is full tang which makes me confident it will work well as a heavy-duty survival knife for years to come. I wouldn't say I -abused- this knife but I definitely wasn't gentle with this knife either, but used it well within it's parameters as a knife aside from betaning. I've hammered in tent stakes and a few nails with this knife, including breaking walnuts and other applications with the pommel and it works very well. Nails however aren't as easy but is better than nothing. I just sharpened it up again after 4 years and it's just as good as new. Would definitely recommend 10/10 ... show more

  • A Beefed Up D2 Steel Interpretation Of The Old Marine Fighting Knife
The grinds are even, and the dark coating was evenly applied. The synthetic grip material is comfortable and practical, and finishes with a solid steel end cap. I've read some reviews that describe this knife as "heavy", but it appears to be on par with most of my full tang fixed blade knives. It has a solid feel to it, and all of my friends who have played around with it gave it positive reviews. The steel is labeled as German D2, and the knife is manufactured in Taiwan. The blade comes "liberally" greased from the factory, and the edge is very sharp. The blade length on this knife is a little under 7 inches long. This is a full tang knife, and it has a useful point which seems durable enough. Overall, I would say that this knife is more robust than the original Marine Kbars that I've played around with, and has better steel. I'll post more later, after I take it out into the bush. ... show more

  • This is a multipurpose knife
I got a D2 version of the knife. The first thing I check was whether I can verify the material. Yes, it has a clear mark "German D2". The Knife is designed for multi purpose usages. although it is a little bigger than normal survive/tactical knife, it is well balanced. I don't feel tired when I use the knife for long time because the balance point is at the handle and blade joint part. That is also the reason I don't feel it heavy. The handle is very ergonomic and comfortable. The D2 steel can really hold its edge after I test the knife. ... show more

  • Another Cold Steel hit
Got this Leatherneck several days ago. Adding to my growing collection of Cold Steel knives. I have a Kabar and it is a great knife. But I think Cold Steel added some refinements to this historic masterpiece. Love the grip. The shape and material ensure a firm grip. Blade steel is D2. A very good steel, also used by Benchmade. Nice sheath as well. So overall this is a very good solid knife. Highly recommend. This knife ain't for bushcraft, if you know what I mean. ... show more

  • Absolutely great knife !
Just got the knife. Absolutely great !! It looks cool and feels right in my hand. The handle feels like it’s made by the size of my hand. Blade is the size for multiple purposes, very sharp and hard. I haven’t used it on anything yet but I googled the D2 steel. It is one of the hardest steels that is not easy to get blunt (also not easy to hone when blunt). For those who don’t like made in China. The pics I uploaded is for new buyers to know that this knife is made in Taiwan. I didn’t know where it was made before purchasing. I think the last picture illustrating the knife should be more clear. ... show more

  • This is a knife for the suspicious - a good knife!
I wanted a K-Bar knife for camping, a gift, or time in the woods. I know Cold Steel’s quality, but I gambled more on that than a name. The knife came quicker than I expected. Opening it (lots of packing) I pulled the knife and it was unmarked, but sparse. Initially, I couldn’t pull the blade from the sheath, which I’m sure was hilarious to the other person in the room, and NO instructions on how to pull it. It’s a Secure-Ex sheath, designed, I’m sure, for old man embarrassment and young child protection. Once understood, a very good enhancement. Blade was sharp, but a few strokes made it my happy-sharp. Looking forward to putting it to the test. I even thought of giving it to my Son-in-Law, but Naaah! Good knife, great value. ... show more
