  • Good unit for the price
I had a coast over-the-head type before that I had purchased at a box store. When the hinge broke I wanted to replace it. I could not find a suitable one so I came to Amazon and was thrilled to find them on here. I even found the same one again—or so I thought. This one is much brighter than my previous one. I love the strap over the head—not just around the head. This gives extra comfort when wearing for long periods of time. I don’t know about battery life yet, since I just purchased the unit. One thing to note is that the strap was all black—no red anywhere, as shown in the product images. Overall this unit works as expected. I would buy it again. I just wish it came in red as shown. ... show more

  • The best headlamp I have
I use headlamps a lot in my remodel work. There's always a trade off between brightness and run time. The brightness of this one is about right. There are brighter ones for certain, but they go half the time or use some weird expensive battery that you cant find at the 7-11. What I like best about this one is the on/off button. Press once for on. Press once for off. I really hate the ones that go bright, medium, low, flashing, red, blue, SOS and disco. Turn it on, then press 6 times to the stupid thing off. I also like the light up front, the batteries in the back. This makes it more balanced. I have another Coast lite (not this model) that's been bouncing around in my tool box for 3 years. It still works good. I hope this one will hold up as well. ... show more

  • Fantastic light beam
I detail cars for a living. I specifically purchase this light because it is the truest I can find to sunlight and easiest light to work with on the eyes. Battery life is a good 2 hours of super brite and then slowly roles down hill from there but still illuminates nicely even with low batteries but not for what I need specifically. Comfort wise, I wear all day on head. My head hurts by end of the day but it isn’t from this light.😂. This light has lots of power but isn’t super on gas. ... show more

  • The best
This headlamp fits comfortably on my head and has an adjustable beam that I can move up or down either to focus on work close at hand or further away in the attic, for example. The brightness is almost dazzling. The battery life is excellent. I don't use it very often, but I keep it in my tool bag and use it perhaps monthly. The first set of batteries lasted about a year. It's nice that they are easily accessible and they are AAA, so they are easy to find. ... show more

  • Big fan
This is probably the least expensive version of the Coast headlamps, however, it’s probably my favorite and not because of the price. I’ve owned the more expensive lamps and I did not like having to scroll through 3 different brightness levels and colors and flash sequences just to turn it off. For me, the draw was the simplicity. You click it on...you click it off. You rotate it up or down to aim it at your work area and there is no focus feature. While 175 lumens is plenty bright for most tasks done in low/no light, if you’re looking for a headlamp for bike riding, I’d probably go with something brighter and therefore more expensive. Otherwise, this is a great headlamp. ... show more

  • The Best I Have Owned
This is the second Coast headlamp that I have owned. I had to replace the first one I bought after several years of dependable use after I installed poor quality batteries that ate the battery compartment. This is the best headlamp that I have purchased over the years. I have owned a number of headlamps and this one has outperformed the others. The on/off switch is just that: on and off; no crazy flashing modes, no multiple dimming modes to cycle through. It is well balanced on your head with the battery pack located at the rear of the strap. I had purchased a different brand in the past that had a rechargeable battery in the lamp assemble. This configuration made the lamp heavy enough that it was uncomfortable to wear and would not stay on straight. Also, the Coast comes with brand name batteries not Thunder Power or some other unknown brand. ... show more

  • Strap hooks on battery pack prone to breaking
I returned at least one of these for replacement under warranty (a hassle). The company must be well aware that hooks for strap on battery pack are prone to failure (break off). The one I had had one break when fairly new. A replacement failed similarly, but I kept using it knowing the pain of return (boxing up, shipping, $5.00 fee....). Now the second failed one has failed the same way on another side of the battery pack. Ready for another. Mag light became popular and secured their leadership in flashlights by making a durable product. This company could do the same. All I want is a light that goes on and off. This one does that fairly well and reliably without the multiple modes that are annoying to most anyone except a child. Battery life is not great (go through lots of AAA batteries). Will reluctantly buy another, instead of returning again. should not be made of cheap materials that break. Wire from battery back to lamp is weak link too, but having battery pack in back provides good balance on head. My head is as big as a hard hat. Once the clips break, the straps twist all around and it is a pain to untwist to get on fast. ... show more
