I gave this 5 stars for the ECONOMY of it, but feel I should clarify what this IS and IS NOT. THIS IS VERY BASIC ECONOMY LIGHTWEIGHT STORAGE AT A CHEAP PRICEPOINT. This is NOT the same as the Ikea Kallax or Walmart Better Homes and Gardens level of reinforced sturdiness for holding heavier weighted items like books, nor are the interior cube dimensions compatible with those brands of 13" or 12" fabric cubes. This IS: These shelves are ideal for lighter-weight storage such as baby/toddler clothes or kids toys--- or in our case, the kids wanted LEGO display shelves for their 10x10 base-plate scenes and quick storage of random toys like Hotwheels, etc. When purchasing fabric cubes be sure they are the 10" or 11" dimensions. I found that "Mainstays" collapsible fabric cubes at Walmart fit nicely in here, but even better score was when I found some 11" cubes at our Dollar Tree (bargain!). These ClosetMaid Cubeicals benefit from being anchored into a stud on the wall, rather than being used as stand-alone/free-standing shelves. The 9 cube = 3x3 could be tolerable/"okay" freestanding if you absolutely insist, but I also bought some 1x4 and those must be secured or they sway and wobble pretty noticeably. A few miscellaneous notes: The 5 "shelf backings" arrive with a permanent creased fold down the middle-for shipping, and are made of thin poster-board like material. If this crease bothers you, just buy posterboard and cut your own backs to tack in. Or if you want something thicker, I imagine "foamboard" from the school supply aisle works great if you score it with a box-cutter. When I tacked in the shelf backings, one of my shelves tore/split even though the tack went in straight and precisely where it should have. I chose to use wood glue to repair the piece rather than return the shelves. This was fast and easy to assemble, the instructions were clear. We've had the shelves for two days now, so I may update this later on to report on durability. Why I gave it 5 stars: The shelves fit our current purpose wonderfully, and I love that when I don't require heavy duty weight bearing shelves, there is a very economical option I can snatch up. Eventually I do want the heavy duty, larger 13" cube shelves from a major brand, but for now I appreciated paying less than forty bucks to have a 9 cube = 3x3 shelf, rather than eighty or one twenty bucks for 3x3 from the other brands. Later on, I will pay more to buy some that are textbook sturdy and can do more things. The photos: You will notice I originally had 12" cubes (white with blue petals), and realized I needed the 10 or 11" cubes (beige/gray). Exactly as shown. It wasn't hard to assemble. It had some chipped corners but that part is hidden. Unfortunately the squares are much smaller than I thought. My boxes didn't fit but will repurpose for something else. The shelves are sturdy.

    • Great Easy solution for Cubie Storage

THIS... is the ClosetMaid 9-Cube organizer and it is a great addition to any room for those that don't want a dresser or like the cubie-style storage. I found that this took me about 30-45 minutes to put together and involved little to no cussing as it was quite easy and straightforward. You can modify it to remove a shelf from a cubie if you want to have a section two tall but you can't do two wide unless you turn it in which you can do two wide but not two tall. Assembly was easy, however, you will need a hammer for the cardboard to go onto the back and an electric drill would speed this process up significantly. Outside of that, you only need a minor working area of about 4 feet by 4 feet. The finished product is also quite nice and fits the amazon basics storage cubes or any 10.5" cube. There are caps to go on the screws so you can cover them up but I like a flush look and left them off. These cubies are also able to hold a decent amount of weight and hold about 30 lbs in one of them every day with zero sag or cracking. In the end, this has been a really nice addition to my bedroom and provides clean, aesthetic storage for my cubies. I think that if you appreciate the color, then the price and value is certainly there. I love this product, and I am certain that if you purchase it, you will share my same thoughts! ... show more

I purchased this because I needed more storage in my small room. This is a perfect addition. I absolutely recommend this cube organizer. You can either stand it up or lay it on its side. It was easy for me to put together alone, no help needed. Now in the end when I was hammering the back sides on I somehow missed that the pieces had pre pressed holes for the nails and started off hammering wrong. I missed up a little and slightly damaged it but you can't even tell thank goodness. Make sure you read the instruction a few times and put the pieces together just like it shows. This will make it easy to put it together. There were a few things missing on the instructions like the additional screws you put in on the sides to keep the boards straight in the middle. There are little holes there so I figured it out myself but they may want to add that. All of the parts were there. You can but the draws to put in it, whatever size you want and I may do that in the future but as of right now I like it just the way it is. It gave me lots of room to put stuff. Most of it of course is dog stuff thanks to Charlie but overall it fits well, its not to big but big enough and I really love it! Its a great price and shipped to my front door. I did check the local stores around me and the price was slightly higher there, I would have had to fit it in my small car and still carry it once I got home. ... show more

I was looking for something to act as a second linen closet (towels and sheets). I ordered this and put it together last night. Pros: Once put together, it is not bad looking (if you are keeping it in a closet out of view, should be fine), and seems moderately sturdy. Also, the dowels actually fit when you had to put pieces together, so that was a big positive. Assembly time- about an hour and 10 min. by yourself. Negatives: 1. Instructions (are easy to follow but woefully incomplete- you will essentially figure it out at as you go along- for example- make sure you put all assembly screws in the side of each divider and on the top and bottom shelf in order to ensure a moderate level of stability and sturdinesss. The pack comes with 18 Assembly screws. If you haven't used all of them, you must make sure you do. The instructions won't tell you this, but you will figure it out as you go along. 2. The material is cheap particle or flake board. Significant cracking on one of the shelves (did not appear to affect durability, but out of the box, this is pretty unacceptable- essentially, it was a broken product, but because box is so heavy, returning it is just a giant pain in the neck- who feels like dealing with that). 3. Dowels- Several of the dowels (which are used to connect the the sides of cubicles to divider, and to the cubicle shelves themselves were in poor condition- several broke- You should have 14 short dowels and 6 long ones. About 15-20% of them were warped or broken, so I had to mess around with them to make them workable. On the other hand they actually fit the holes in the shelves, so that was good. 4. The supplies and screws and dowels, etc.. were put in the box in a ripped bag, and thus the screws, etc. had all fallen out by the time I opened the box, and I had to spend too much time finding everything (All screws, etc., were there though). This is really unacceptable. Conclusion- Cheaply made product with mediocre instructions, too many warped or broken assembly pieces, but fairly easy to put together (its intuitive for the most part), but seems to be moderately durable (if put together right) and okay looking when put together, and fits quite a bit a stuff, and is good limited space and depth. Given the price point, I would say it's probably worth it. But only moderately worth it. It really should not come with any cracked shelves, or product or broken assembly items. This is a huge turnoff. So I think its functional, but with several cons that detract from what otherwise be a killer product. ... show more

I bought two of the 6 cube to stack on top of each other sideways (so that they're wider than they are tall). They look great in my living room, and weren't too hard to put together. I've got the cubical fabric drawers to go with them. They feel pretty solid once put together and I've already loaded a bunch of books and junk onto the shelves. Some caveats for buyers: * It's a pretty cheap finish on them. They scratch easily. Take them out of the box carefully and slowly because I scratched up a few of the boards by turning the box up and letting it all slide out in a pile. I wouldn't sit any sweating drinks on these, they'll probably leave bubbles or stains. * It's also a material easily damaged with tools... I missed the mark while putting the back cardboard covers on it, and pushed a nail out the side which tore a chunk out of the finish. Fortunately it was at the top of a bottom cube where it can't be seen unless you nearly stick your head in to look. This was my fault, not the manufacturers. * It claims they're stackable, but they didn't mention it's only intended for one direction. For the 6 cube organizer it comes with extra holes and dowels to stack a top one onto the bottom vertically. Meaning you have it sitting in the taller position where it's 2 squares across and 6 squares up and down with both together, rather than 3 squares across and 4 squares up and down (like I wanted). This is not a deal breaker though, the top one still sat on the bottom one pretty solidly with them sideways, it just doesn't have the benefit of the dowels holding them together for stability. I wouldn't recommend letting a little one climb on it or anything. My walls aren't solid enough to use the wall supports that it does come with. Overall I would recommend these, you really can't beat this price and if one does fall apart in a couple years hey, it's cheap and 2 days away with Amazon Prime. ... show more
