Description

The riotous follow-up to Robert Rodi’s cult hit FAG HAG, CLOSET CASE turned the genre of the gay coming-out story inside-out and upside-down. Long out of print, this 1993 comic tour de force now returns to delight a whole new generation. Lionel Frank is a workaholic account executive at an upscale advertising agency, in charge of the über-masculine All-Pro Power Tools account. But Lionel has a secret life—one spent huddled in his car, dialing phone-sex numbers like 1-800-BOY-TOYZ, or lurking in the shadows of gay strip clubs with his flamboyant hairdresser friend, Toné. When continued professional success forces a choice between his two lives, Lionel decides to bury his sexuality forever…a task easier said than done. His increasingly calamitous cover-ups finally reach critical mass at a client’s retreat on a Wisconsin lake, where Lionel—who’s always said he’d rather die than come out—finds himself facing a situation where the choice is exactly that. “A joyride of a book…infectious…hard to put down.”—Boston Phoenix “Utterly hilarious…You’ll experience anew what it’s like to laugh with a book.”—NewCity Chicago Read more

  • Always funny and moving ...
Format: Kindle
I've read this novel at least four times since I got it as a present in the nineties, and I've always enjoyed it as the first time. So I welcomed the opportunity to have it in my ipad to read it once more. I think Robert Rodi is a fine writer with the right amount of humor, intelligence and insight about what his characters may feel, so as a reader it's easy to relate with them. There aren't many good books about what gay life really is. I've read most of Rodi's gay novels to date and even as I liked most of them, this one remains my favorite. You learn to like Lionel, the main character, with all his insecurities and the troubles he lives in his journey to coming out. I recommend it without reservations. ... show more

I'm a Robert Rodi fan, so it's no surprise that I enjoyed this book. Robert has a light, lively style and characters that are believable and real. This book pushed the boundaries of that a bit, but hey, one can't have everything! This is a easy read...and should be treated as such...a kind of gay candy bar...<grin>! ... show more
