This was a gift for my grand daughter who turned 6. She was a little too young to understand you can only move the control knobs only so far. My 8 year old grand daughter had a blast with it. So the 8 and up suggestion is about right. There is no volume control so it is pretty loud. I read reviews where people cut the speaker wires but the music is part of the game. It's a timer to try and get the toys out before the music stops so I think that would defeat the purpose of the challenge.This is the 2nd claw machine I purchased, the back and forth control stopped working so I sent it back, received a credit, and bought a new one. A very cute toy my niece loves it and still plays with it even after Christmas last year. Still works well however if one thing could be adjusted it should be the volume because the music is very loud. Other than that its a good gift for a kid!

I received today and tested it out to see how it works. The music is horribly loud and there is no way to turn it off or turn down volume. Be aware that this is quickly gets super annoying. The claw controls work well and I would have kept this if not for the music.

The kids used their own money to select a "toy" to curb the boredom of being stuck at home this summer. It arrived 1 day earlier than expected - thumbs up from the kids. It was easy for them to open, set up with small toys and candy -- thumbs up again. They have played with it every day since (4 days now) -- they cheer each other on and enjoy eating their candy prize.
