  • Great for Beginners
Bought this my wife who wanted to learn classical guitar. This was recommended by her guitar teacher who knew her level of play. She says it is perfect for her lessons.

  • Solo classical notation plus tab, the way all should be published
First, a different selection than her Compendium, the printing the publisher used this time succeeded in making MUCH MUCH MUCH easier to read! Yeah for that!.For readability I give it very high ratings, for content... up to you? For me personally I was as interested in the repertoire as I was in her first "Compendium". It expands the repertoire. Various period classical repertoire, which coupled with her former 'Compendium', (both have notation and TAB), and includes link to HL for audio though I have at times felt there is in some places minor differences between the two? I compare the notation scoring to the TAB and the audio... you should as well. Also recommend going on the web and searching out different interpretations of the song under scrutiny. TAB should be considered as to the author particular voicing's used?, many I times I find these in this work musically beautiful, other times I'll find an alternate fingering if for no other reason than my physical limitations on chord / note hand and difficulty related to that in my own ability. I wish all scores were published with TAB plus notation like these are, and I guess that is a bias. I have played guitar my entire adult life, and so my definition of 'easy' or 'difficult' is relative. I am a HUGE fan of notation plus tab for solo classical guitar musical scores. Folks can always explore variations on fingering, convenience vs. voicing / timing. Having a 'reference score' to work from, after that it is just putting in the time. Are the scores here worth the time then maybe the question, and then the cost, which on a per score basis is fantastic. Does TAB, notation, downloadable audio, make a good text to learn from /or/ teaching text?, I think so, though it's always paramount to teach what someone is interested in aspiring to as a student. The combination of what is offered here are a suitable challenge for student and /or/ teacher. ... show more

  • Nice transcriptions of well-known tunes
Just finished reading through everything. On the whole a worthwhile purchase. I'll echo a few other reviews about this being much more an intermediate thru early-advanced level collection. For those familiar with the RCM graded series which divides the repertoire into 8 levels, most of these would be in the 4 - 6 range with a couple harder and a couple easier. She uses a lot of drop D tuning and requires a reach from the 5th fret of the 6th string to the 1st fret of the 1st string in a few places. That's a bit of a reach for many students. These places can be re-fingered without too much difficulty or loss of original intent. I was disappointed with the inclusion of Recuerdos and Asturias. Not that there's anything wrong with them but, good Lord, do we really need another version. There are already so many very good ones available online - for free. These strike me as needless filler. Her original arrangements are clever and they sound good. I would have preferred just one more of those to the pages dedicated to those venerable warhorses. ... show more

  • GGSA: Guitar Grad Student Approved
This book is incredible. I'll soon be going to graduate school for Classical Guitar performance, and after spending a month combing through the pages for new and interesting repertoire, I feel like I can confidently say that this is one of the finest Anthologies for classical guitar rep that I have ever encountered. Master Bridget demonstrates keen musical intuition in her selection of arrangements, as they all sing quite wonderfully on the instrument. I was also thoroughly entertained by the arrangements themselves; each one is so satisfying to play. All of the fingerings feel natural and instinctive, and some arrangements even had alternate tunings (for example, one arrangement is tuned to: CGCGCE. This is more typical for modern steel string then classical) warning: it can be a bit tricky to work through pieces in alternate tunings if you arent used to them! I wasn't expecting this book to blow my mind so much. It's unfortunate that there arent more books out there that feature arrangements of this calibur. I'm not sure how Bridget did it, but i do know that i will be buying anything else she puts out there, as I am now a raving fan. ... show more
