I keep giving Clark's a chance, which always feels like a hit or miss outcome. This was a fail for me. For some items, like Clark's lug-soled loafers, it was a win! But for these boots, not so much. Part of this is due to my own foot issues. I have big feet for my 5'3" inch, 100lb body. Those women's size 8.5-9.5 feet jut out in front of me in some shoes like clown feet, if there is a large bulbous toe on the offending footwear. And alas, there was such a clown toe peering back up at me from the floor when I tried these on. No offense to clowns, but I'm not aiming for the circus performer look and I don't want a part time gig doing kid's birthday parties as a clown. I'd rather the whole shoe was the same width, rather than this rounded bulb at the end. It just looks weird. Personally, I gave these a try because I can't get too narrow of a shoe. I have a bunion and a "Morton's toe" which is a longer toe that cramps up in some shoes. Hence, I'm super picky about footwear. I wanted to like these, because they appeared like they might not pinch my bunion. But too much shoe is too much shoe. The shoe fit, but it had issues, at least for me, given my ugly feet. And to add to my bad foot issues, not only do I have big feet, I have very small ankles, about 7.5" circumference. There was so much gapping at the top of those boots, I'm not sure any sock could fill the void and I'd worry about ankle discomfort when it rubbed against them. Plus, even when I put wide legged pants over this and I'm talking the largest, widest leg pants I own, (which happen to be the flowing Free People's Old West Slouchy Jeans) the top of the boot just kept bunching up in the material of the jeans or protruding like I was hiding an very small, but noticeable extra terrestrial alien in my pant legs. Thoughts: If you have smaller feet, you'll have less circus performer appearance with these. Less shoe is less clown look. If you have normal sized ankles or wider ankles or want to wear these over leggings, it might work for you. I've moved away from leggings and jeggings, personally. I need a boot that fits well under a straight legged, flair legged and wide legged jean and these will not work for me there. (I would assume that was likely that due the size of the shoe, causing the opening for the ankle to also be larger, might not be your issue with them if you wear a smaller size.) As for comfort, they have the typical Clark's decent softness inside. But I just could not find them to be keepers for me. I got an 8.5, which is my smallest normal size and they fit me properly, except for the issues I had above. Given that, I'd assume they run true to size.

Mom wanted something around her ankles for a little support. Got one pair, made me get another. Amazon should have gotten a 3rd purchase from someone from the beauty parlor. Nice and soft, easy to take on and off. Not to say they aren't attractive. I would wear them.

I’m a smaller-framed girl and I have “delicate” wrists and ankles (8.5” diameter). These boots are not made for us. Because they’re so wide around the ankle, I’m easily able slip them on and off without even having to unzip them. I’m pretty sure Clark’s didn’t intend these boots to be able to do that. On top of that, they’re so wide that there’s no support around my ankle, so with every step I take, my feet rise up a little and rub against the inside of the boot, in the exact spot where Clark’s sewed a piece of black elastic, because, I guess they still weren’t wide-mouthed enough?? Anyway, the piece of elastic completely rubbed the skin off over the side pointy part of my ankle bone. You can’t wear low-cut/no show socks if you value your ankle skin. I ordered these in a 9 and 9.5. One foot is each of those sizes, but with the super wide ankle opening, my size 9 foot came out of the 9.5 boot with every step I took. The fit of where my foot goes inside is perfect (even my 9.5 foot in the size 9 boot), it’s just the part around the ankle is sooo wide and the whole skin worn off issue makes me not want to wear them again. Not returnable because they’ve been worn outside, but they did keep my feet dry in rain. The design is cute and I really wanted to love them.
