So, I was introduced to the "desert Boot" through Oliberque a few years ago - learned then that Clark was the original. Went down the chukka rabbit hole, decided to get the one and only. These things have memory foam - if you could craft a pillow shoe for yourself, you'd come up with this. Women love them. I have the beeswax, but am not opposed to buying more versions now that I've figured out my size. I ordered three damn pairs of shoes, and this third one works. Here's what you HAVE to know so you're not returning them and all of that... I need wide. Plain and simple. Have dealt with ingrown toenails all my life, and I absolutely CAN'T have any pressure on my left big toe. So, I usually order half-an-inch larger for most of my shoes to get that toe-box room. I wear USA size 11 on average (some of my shoes are US 12, some are US 10.5). I need wide. What fits me with this shoe - the size that I settled on - 10.5 wide. These shoes are wide to begin with, and they're only going to break in and get wider. So, if you're like me and have a morbid fear of narrow shoes, don't worry with these. Relatively speaking, they run larger than others for the size. So, if anything, size DOWN and go wide. I ordered the US 11 and could feel the shoe on my left big toe (the problem child operated-on toe). No bueno. I know from experience this will eventually suck for me. So, I ordered the US 11 wide and quite honestly it was too long. I didn't feel my left big toe but I just knew there was too much space left over in that toe box. A shoe still does have to function in its original intention... Floppy clown shoes aren't very practical. So, I ordered DOWN length-wise from what I would normally wear, and went wide. This worked. Just did a Costco run today and damn... Dude these are COMfortable. And I was just getting them to look classy, rugged, stylish, all of that. So, size down by half-an-inch - that's my recommendation. If your toes are claustrophobic, size down and go wide. Worked for me. Now I'm addicted. Going to have five pairs of these very quickly. This price is literally unbelievable. Looking at some Thursday Boots (Captain - maybe President) which I will most likely end buying, knowing myself, but seriously I can get five pairs of these Clarks for the price of one pair of those boots. But you're getting into Goodyear welts and all of that with those artisan boots, so not a fair comparison. My M.O. I personally will just buy something new if ish goes south. Time is money - diminishing returns if you start spending too much time looking for ish. So, just buy them. Bushacre 3 - not the earlier versions. Cheap as ish. And NOBODY knows what you paid for them. They just see that you're wearing them and size you up as someone who's interesting. ... show more

So much more comfortable than the 2's

Clark's Bushacre and/or Desert Boots have been a favorite of mine for years. Have owned several different varieties, colors, price points. These are by far the most comfortable version i've ever worn. I even had my wife put her feet in these and my old Bushacre 2's and her response was: "WOW!" And what's amazing is they look nearly identical, it's not like the sole is super thick or anything. The removable Ortholite insoles appear to be the main difference, although i'm sure they made other changes to fit these inside the boot. Regardless - much more cushioned and these will be my daily wear office shoes for hopefully a few years. LOVE LOVE LOVE the comfort and style. Hopefully these are as durable as my trusty Bushacre 2's. The sole is a different material and they look like there's some other minor construction differences, so time will tell. I think these are an incredible value, especially when they get in that $50-ish range. Buy ASAP if you're on the fence. SIZING can be a bit tricky. They run large and being leather boots you have to really decide how you want them to fit. I typically wear a 10 in normal casual shoes (10.5 in Running shoes because you're suppposed to size up to compensate for heat/sweat/etc.). I ordered a 9 and they fit perfect, no heel slippage but enough room to wiggle toes. Seem to fit well with thicker socks and they'll definitely stretch as they conform to my foot shape. If you have the luxury of buying 2 sizes to compare, I'd recommend that... just send back the pair you don't want. My Bushacre 2's were 9 so I felt pretty confident 9 would work here too and they are exactly the same size. ... show more

Unboxed and fitted perfectly. I wear US mens size 9 in sneakers (narrow fit). However, in Clarks chukka boots 8.5 ... I must add, "These are so comfortable to step in and around town, all day long." FACTs: The quality is optimal, Clarks! Also, the monetary value is affordable luxury, and in this burgundy leather ... exotically dapper. These are my rugged pair of chukka boots to put through the paces as they continuosly get better with time and wears (Simply said, these are my daily drivers). NOTABLE FACT: Scuffs are none existent with these given the proper shoe care / finger rub. ADDED FACTs: These Chukkas, compliments exceptionally well my business casuals, mid formal fit, and my laid back drip. Closing FACTs: 1). The elevated comfort is quickly felt in the dual-density Ortrolite removable foot bed that feels to me ... happily married with Clarks' "Extreme Comfort" system. 2). For the "Perfect fit" (do size down .5 from the displayed size). 3). NOTE: The Upper construction is 100% full-grain leather or suede. 4). ADDED NOTE: Given the durable rubber out sole ... and 5). Clarks' exceptional craftsmanship. "These boots are a phenomenal addition to any and every shoe collection." Therefore, I do recommend. YOU, grab a pair or two. Why? Is this a love/hate relationship?

I like these a lot, but I'm not sure why. The look is great. The sole is great. However, they just... fit weird. Of course they run HUGE, like everyone says. I had to size down a full size from my normal dress shoe size (11 vs. 12), but even then it just felt wrong... not just too big, but more like it wasn't really foot shaped. Adding my plantar fasciitis heel inserts got my foot to fit into it well enough for it to be wearable, but it still feels a little goofy walking around in it, like things just aren't in the right place, or are the wrong shape. I will *never* wear this shoe on days I'm going to be doing much walking around. Maybe if I went down to a 10.5? I dunno. It's just weird. However -- this is weird, but I can't help liking them despite their difficulty performing the basic duties of a shoe. Maybe that's a me problem? :D But lord I wish they fit better. They're really cool shoes. I like them enough to give them 4 stars, but based on fit and function I feel like I really have to give them 3 stars. UPDATE: I have had these boots for almost a full year now, wearing them just about every day to work. I could not be happier. I'd give them 10 stars if I could. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I am extremely pleased with these boots. A few thoughts, in no particular order: • They fit as expected. Based on some other reviews, I ordered my normal size (12) and half a size down (11.5). The 12s are perfect, 11.5 was too small. But YMMV. • They were a little stiff at first, but after a couple of weeks they've broken in quite nicely, and are now EXTREMELY COMFORTABLE. • I took these along with a pair of sneakers on a recent European vacation--a vacation where I spent the majority of my days on my feet, walking around sightseeing. The days I wore the sneakers, my feet, legs, and back ended up hurting quite a lot. The days I wore these boots, I experienced no pain or discomfort--just the normal fatigue that comes from walking 5-15 miles a day. • I was worried about scuffs, but most scuffs rub out really easily. As these break in, you get some folds and creases, but that seems to add to their character. • The boots are really flexible, in terms of style-they work well in casual settings, but also work nicely in less casual environments. They pair nicely with both blue and grey slacks. I don't know if I'd try wearing them with a suit (maybe a little too casual for that?), but they still present a nice range of options. • We'll see how they hold up over time, but given the Clark's brand reputation, I have high hopes for their durability. • Honestly, I can't believe you can get boots of this quality for less than $60. It's stunning. One complaint (if you can call it that): I ordered both the Dark Brown and Beeswax colors, because I wasn't sure which I'd like better. They were completely indistinguishable from one another. Not like, close but a little different...they were the EXACT. SAME. COLOR. ... show more

A Worthy Desert Boot Homage

These Bushacre 3s are truly great! Having previously owned and worn out a pair of both the Clark’s Desert Boot and the Clark’s Bushacre 2s, these Bushacre 3s are the perfect marriage of both designs and an upgrade altogether. With these, I really feel Clark’s has addressed the shortcomings of both models mentioned. The upgraded boot laces are sturdy, stout and extremely grippy. They don’t feel like you’re going to tear them apart like the ones supplied on the Desert Boot. They stay positioned and tied just how you leave them. The rubber soles also out perform the crepe rubber soles of the Desert Boot, especially in wet weather. Crepe rubber makes it feel like you’re ice skating when on wet asphalt or cement. I’ve busted my ass many times in wet weather because of this. They stay much cleaner and presentable in a way that crepe rubber isn’t able. These rubber soles stay firmly planted in rainy weather and ever grip frosty surfaces well. The insoles/removable footbeds are also a welcome change in my eyes. They keep the comfort of the Desert Boot crepe and ditch the uncomfortable stiffness that the Bushacre 2s are known to have. I can wear these boots all day with zero discomfort and when the insoles over compress, I can swap in a pair of my favorite custom inserts. As someone with wide potatoes for feet, I was extremely pleased to see Clark’s sell these in Wide sizes. The leather used on these sits somewhere in between the leather quality used on Desert Boot and Bushacre 2. It’s not as thick or nearly as nice as the Desert Boots, but IS much nicer than what my Bushacre 2s had. I’ve found that while the beeswax finish these come with was very chocolatey, dark and uniform upon first arrival, as I wore and broke in the boots over the course of a few days, little hues of browns and cordovan came through. I’m sure they’ll develop a nice character as time progresses. All in all I am so happy with these boots! Clarks hit a home run with these! Made well in India. ... show more
