This is a charming and well made CITIZEN watch, though the design is a bit flashy. The interface is intuitive, but lagging. Customization of the control buttons is most useful. I set the bottom as a shortcut for the phone audio controls, for example. The three push-buttons are large enough and sufficiently far apart to operate while wearing gloves. The screen is very readable, and the brighter the ambient light the better, in difference to the typical screens. I wish it had solar charging, but given the existing technology it would have taken some of the screen real-estate. As is, the charge lasts for weeks and it fully charges for under an hour! Overall, I like it more than I thought I would.

DO NOT BUY THIS WATCH. I did as 50% of reviews were positive. There's a reason that 23% of the reviewers on Amazon are giving this watch 2 stars or less. As Citizen's entry into the Hybrid Market, this watch should not have been released. There are extensive problems with the software and firmware and this watch cannot be repaired by your local Citizen repair facility. The return policy is only 30 days and these watches are working for 45 - 60 days before failing to connect to the app on your cell phone. Once this happens, you will never be able to connect the watch to a cell phone regardless of the number of times you have loaded the app or created new accounts with Citizen. The watch itself still functions, but any plans you may have to review health history are gone as are all of the NASA features, etc. You can continue to see the time and do real-time health checks, but any history that would have been kept on the phone app is no longer available. I've spoken to Citizen and they have no solution to this problem. Also, their website to reset your password is listed as "Dangerous Web Page" by Norton security. That should be a huge wakeup call as to the credibility of this watch. Citizen has completely failed their customer base by releasing a dysfunctional watch before it was ready for distribution. Wait a couple of years for Citizen to correct the fatal mistakes on this watch before buying.

I own MANY watches as well as quite a few smartwatches. I go all of the way back to Pebble and Motorola and as recent as Mobvoi and Amazfit. I own 2 Skagen hybrid smartwatches. I am very familiar with smartwatches. I love this great looking watch! It is a hybrid and does NOT behave like a traditional smartwatch. If you buy this watch you need to understand and embrace this simple fact! Once you take the time to understand the watch, what it DOES do and how it works you may love it as much as I do. Customer service is amazing! I had a question right away and used the app to send it. A few hours later I had an answer. The next morning I called their number and opted for them to call me back. I spoke to a VERY knowledgeable representative who answered any and all questions that I had. If you like wearing a great looking traditional watch with some features of a smartwatch buy this!

The Citizen CZ Smart Hybrid Gen 2 is a solid and visually appealing watch with a premium build and a stylish design. However, it falls short in functionality for its price point. One notable drawback is the inability to display full messages from various applications, which limits its practicality as a smartwatch. Additionally, the software experience is frustrating for users outside the U.S. The YouQ app is region-locked, making it inaccessible, and even installing the companion Citizen Connected app required a workaround, as it wasn’t available via the Play Store in my region. Fortunately, I managed to purchase this watch at a significant discount, which softens the blow of these limitations. While the watch delivers on aesthetics and durability, these software restrictions significantly detract from the overall user experience, particularly for international users.

I purchased this watch to (a) not look like all other Apple Watches or Garmin Watches, (b) to look like a normal and sporty watch and finally (c) to provide step, heart rate and sleep tracking. At first I was pleased with overall functionality but now growing more and more disappointed with my purchase. When I put the watch into Walk mode, the watch will automatically pause the workout mode and there is nothing hitting the plungers to pause it. Citizen told me to reset it which I did but the annoyance continues. The other thing is give the monochromatic alerts, it’s sometimes hard to read what the alert is about. And the last thing is when trying to view the watch at night, it does not automatically illuminate unless you hard tap the face. Battery life is awesome, the app is decent and the watch tells me the time, steps, heart rate and sleep. So…its doing it job…I guess. Hope this helps your research towards this category purchase.

I hate squared smart watches. If you like them, than this is not for you. Stop reading this and move on. If you like quality watches. Good looking. Stylish. This might interest you . It is not a smart watch!!! It’s a citizen watch, with its looks and quality, with a digital back display that gives you notifications and fitness info. THATS IT! No useless apps and stuff. No toy-looking-colors. This is perfect for me. I’ve had so many complements on it. It’s a casual even dress watch that allows me to stay up to date on my essential notifications. I’ve actually stopped looking so much at my phone. Battery is good. Interphase and app is simple and good. Cons: not submersible. I wish I could take this swimming. But it is splash resistant. If you stop using it for a day or so, you need to reconnect and calibrate; it’s a simple process, but I think this could have been avoided with a bit more of technology. The “double-tap-light” is super useful. But it should be more of a back light. I wish I could customize a little bit more the face screens. But all of this cons you can easily live with and easily adapt. Overall it’s a Gera watch. I own 4 citizen eco drive watches, and haven’t used since I got this CZ.
