Description

This monograph includes a link and password to a video "A comparative Analysis of China's Economic Espionage Tactics." Reviews: This scholarly work is a superb compilation and analysis of the public record concerning the Chinese Communist Party’s espionage activities against the rest of the world and the United States in particular. Most important it goes well beyond the “what” has happened and provides insight into the how and why of this activity. The reader should be aware that a noted expert in the field has provide a synthesized review of all the available information. It is a glimpse at what is happening around the world. There are more facts understood by those with appropriate security access and much more is known only to the senior levels of the CCP and its operatives. -- Richard Haver, former Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, former DCI Deputy for Community Affairs, and Chief of Staff, National Intelligence Council. A must - read for professionals in Counter intelligence, security and government affairs. The author has crafted the most detailed account ever published on China’s espionage operations and tactics…… The USA is loosing its secrets and technology to China’s “whole of society” approach ….. Our Nation’s need for good counterintelligence has never been greater ……Mr. Eftimiades is the real deal, a veteran of the Intelligence Community who describes the challenges and provides recommendations on how to do a better job in protecting America. - Nicholas G. Kikis, former Director /Defense Clandestine Service and Chief of East Asia Division. Mr. Eftimiades’ monograph is an important contribution to our understanding of how and why the Chinese espionage Tsunami has appeared in every aspect of American life from culture to nuclear weapons. It builds on earlier work by Mr. Eftimiades and others on China’s economic and industrial espionage, and exposes the consequences of changes in Chinese law made in 2014 and 2017. These change in law made the conduct of espionage an obligation of citizenship the “must not refuse”. By doing so, China has de facto expanded its relatively small cadre of professional intelligence officers by using the power of the State to compel any of its hundreds of thousands of students and businessmen resident outside of China to undertake espionage missions and in doing so, are overwhelming the counterintelligence resources of the US and allied nations. Dr. William Schneider, former US Undersecretary of State, Arms Control and International Security Affairs. Eftimiades’ meticulously documented study shows how China’s massive ‘whole of society’ approach to espionage has created a new paradigm on how intelligence activities are conducted and provides a cautionary tale for the numerous countries it has been directed against. - June Teufel Dreyer金德芳Professor, Department of Political Science, University of Miami. Know before you buy. This short book is the most detailed work ever published in the unclassified world on China's intelligence tradecraft. It is NOT a causal description of a few cases of Chinese espionage with pictures thrown in for intrigue and excitement. This monograph (50 pages) is a critical analysis of China's current intelligence activities and associated espionage tradecraft. It reviews 595 cases of espionage, economic espionage, covert action, theft of technology and trade secrets. The study identifies and analyzes the specific espionage tradecraft used by China's intelligence services, State Owned Enterprises, universities, private companies, and individuals. This work is for Insider Threat specialists, Intelligence Officers, security professionals, attorneys, policy makers, journalists, and anyone else who needs a detailed understanding of China's espionage operations and tactics. • Good Book
This is a short book but an interesting read. I like staying up to date on things that are going on internationally or I try. This is an interesting read on China.

  • For those that don't already know . . but want to
I have been routinely recommending this superb piece since its release to those Americans who doubt the threat the Chinese State poses. Eftimiades has carefully researched and offers the "how do they do it" concerning the espionage tactics and techniques. For those "in the know" who might work for or with a U.S. intelligence agency it offers a depth of open source references. For everyone else it surely must be an eye opener and a mandatory read for our times. ... show more

  • Succinct overview
Delightful brevity. If you liked the Letort Papers, then this will be up your alley. Short and partial truth, but interesting nonetheless.

  • Must Read for
This monograph, and his previous book, are superb. They are easy to read and important to understand. He has presented a clear and well researched description of how Chinese Espionage has been working based on an Open Source review of nearly 700 cases that have been prosecuted. He explains who is performing these tasks, what their motivations are, and details of similarity and difference in methods used as he outlines the hierarchies of organizations involved in supervision of activities. Of note, it is a short, but very useful piece of work that is adjective free; here to provide the data and facts that can be gleaned from Open Sources. As such it is very useful to all those concerned with Chinese Espionage from Government Actors to Private Corporations and citizens of nations around the world. ... show more

  • another book summarizing existing books on Chinese espionage
This book is well written and interesting, but does not seem to add much value. First of all, the reader has no clue on the manpower and budget that the Chinese secret services are wielding. One thing is talk about the tactics and activities, the other is discussing the resources allocated to these activities. Alas, the book is leaving a wide gap on the latter. Secondly, the book is repeating what has been said on Chinese espionage. Overall, the book is OK, but nothing mor.e ... show more

  • Provacative and timely.....A must Read
Mr Eftimiades has broken new ground on his closely researched series on Chines Espionage Operations and Tactics. His work on Chinese espionage spans 30 years in the intelligence community. In the 90's he sounded the alarm on China's rising espionage activities directed against US corporate and government entities. His current series on Chinese Espionage identifies for the reader China's massive "whole of Society" approach to espionage activity and offers the exceedingly rare combination of insight and judgement from a professional who has a wealth of firsthand experience. Eftimiades work fills an important gap in US literature as it relates to Chinese intelligence. I highly recommend this book! Former Chief, Counterintelligence Operations, DIA ... show more

  • Excellent Content and Easy to Read
I ordered the Kindle version. The book is shorter than you might think, but stuffed with information. Excellent and enlightening content that is great for maintaining awareness. I used it to study for some job interviews and it was excellent.

  • Short book, packed full of salient information.
Excellent categorization and analysis of over four hundred examples of CCP espionage operations in the U.S. Start it at breakfast, be much better informed on this threat by lunch. Well worth the read.
