On my last visit to Japan, I struggled to get my iPhone to work. My carrier in the US doesn't offer service in Japan so it was a challenge to make calls and text home. I won't bore you with the details of the issues I encountered but rather I'll just tell you how this SIM card solved my problem. I got an idea when I purchased my JR Pass and they offered me a pocket WiFi device. They'd charge $63 for seven days, 3gb data limit per day at 4G speed before it's throttled to 256k. Not bad, but it was a hassle to get and return the device. Limited locations. Poor hours. Late penalties. Lose it, pay for it ($140). I figured I could use an old unlocked Android phone as a portable hotspot. I bought this SIM for around $20, put it in the phone, and turned on data roaming. After a minute or two, it connected. I burned through the 10gb of high speed data in the first two or three days, then used it at 128k. It worked great with my devices. Using a VPN and WiFI calling on my iPhone 15, I was able to receive and make calls and texts using the old Android phone as a hotspot, and I didn't have to worry about running out data. I only used it for a week but it would have lasted fifteen days. It worked fine in Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Hakodate. I bought the SIM card to be used during my travel to Switzerland one of the listed countries to use it. I installed the card and immediately received a welcome message and got excited. However I didn’t get any internet connection then received a message that I already used 4 GB and within 2 minutes my balance was Zero while I failed to get any internet connection. We landed in the Frankfurt airport in Germany in Oct 17th. I put this sim card right away, and got a good 4G signal. We traveled to Venice, Three Greece islands, Athens, Croatia, Slovenia, Ephesus, and Istanbul. We got very reliable 4G signals in these counties. It wasn't hard to install and set up. I had to help my friend who bought the same sim card by manually putting in the APN. The instructions mention this if it doesn't automatically set up. I had unlimited data for the 2 weeks I stayed. It helps a lot, specifically if you rely on Google maps guiding you and Google searching places. There is no text or calling. The sim card worked great in both Thailand and Malaysia, with no problem switching between the two or getting it started. It was the right amount of data for my needs. It came with a tool to pop out the sim card tray and a little plastic pouch with a space for my US sim card and for the tool. Those were the little touches that felt "above and beyond." Bought two of these for a trip to London for two unlocked iphones and they were completely unusable and nearly ruined my trip. The service was not as advertised, you couldn't get service/reception anywhere really and the data did not work at all. The package has a number to contact customer service but how are you supposed to contact customer service via phone if your phone doesn't work??? Had to toss them the first day and pay over $100 to get my phone company to turn on international service for the month. Absolute waste of money. ... show more

I'm so glad that I bought this and was able to access mobile data before I was even off the plane in Japan. It was cheaper than what my friend paid for her SIM card at the airport. We defiantly needed the internet to get from Narita to Tokyo. Just do it and save yourself the hassle. I highly recommend it.
