I picked up these Pur Luv chicken jerky treats on a whim after noticing the ingredient list was refreshingly simple—basically just real chicken, which is harder to find than you’d think. After going through almost the whole bag, I can say they’ve earned a permanent spot in my pantry. The first thing I noticed when I opened the bag was that the pieces actually look like real chicken, not those weird, overly processed strips some brands try to pass off as jerky. They have a firm, chewy texture that takes my dog a little time to work through, which I appreciate because it keeps him occupied instead of inhaling the treat in two seconds. My dog is pretty picky with textures, and he usually loses interest in treats that are too tough or too soft. These hit a sweet spot substantial enough to feel like a real chew, but not so hard that I worry about him cracking a tooth. He gets excited every time he hears the bag crinkle, which is honestly the best endorsement I can give. I also like that the treats don’t have a strong, artificial smell. They smell like chicken, nothing more, nothing less. And because they’re made with limited ingredients, I feel better about giving them regularly without wondering what kind of fillers or mystery additives are hiding inside. If I had to nitpick, the pieces aren’t all uniform in size. Best treat you could give your dog! Limited ingredients, shelf stable and no crumbs to clean up. We have two dogs: 70# female Pit/Boxer (eats everything) and 35# Border Collie (Mr Picky). Both dogs eat it with joy! We cut them up into small pieces and they get treats throughout the day. Our girl has severe immunity issues that we are solving through diet. I bought my dogs three different types of treats no maybe even four and this is the only one they would eat because they are very picky LOL even with these they take their time. I have come to like these more than the kind that have chicken jerky attached to some kind of rawhide stick because the rawhide sticks get left behind all over the place LOL so these are great because they are just pure chicken jerky. These are GOOD & BAD! Good because dogs love them...Bad because dogs love them too much. They like them so much they want to eat them in a hurry, taking large chunks off & not taking the time to chew to break down the size before attempting to swallow. Many times the hard flat pieces (like swallowing razor blades) gets caught in their throat & they end up having to try to regurgitate the piece back up Which scares the bejeebers out of you, thinking the dog is choking...which it is. Cut into small pieces with scissors (I use tin snips/metal shears, or hold the piece & control feed it to your dog) if you don't want a heart attack or vet bills...be careful. ... show more
