  • Not For Airline Travel
Have had the case for a year and a half now and I have had to go and purchase a Pelican case instead. It does not hold up well to airline travel. I travel every week and have to check the case. The frame has bent in and has a hard time opening and closing. I busted a rivet on the clamps that close the case and had to put in a new rivet. The wheels went bad after 6 months, and guess what, Chicago Case does not warranty the wheels at all, nor wear and tear. So their warranty is pretty much useless if you use the case for what it is intended for. The inside tool sleeves are a joke and just let tools fly around the case. They should have used a Velcro strap on top of each opening to keep them from sliding out. I'm very disappointed in this case and did not expect it to disintegrate this quickly. Also, with a useless warranty, the case is not worth buying. Now, the reason I did not give it one star is because if you just drive and don't fly, then the case might hold up better. Not sure about the wheels, the bearings they use seem to be terrible. ... show more

  • Very sturdy but has issues.
Bought this August 2015. Now it’s April 2019. Travel every week, mostly by air. The case has had a rough life so far. Wheels started to make noise after 1 trip. Got worse until after a few months the bearings were completely disintegrated. Contacted manufacturer, they send a replacement wheel set with mounting instructions free of charge, received the wheels two days later. Replaced them and haven’t had any issues since then. It holds the tools reasonably well in place but I used foam pads in between so everything is pressed together. The latches are not great. They stick out instead of being recessed. Sometimes one of them is loose after air travel (I suspect though that is partially caused by TSA not closing the case properly, the latches are not so easy too close when you have to apply pressure on the lid to close, as it is with my toolcase). The supplied TSA approved lock was a joke. It lasted 2 trips. As it’s supposed to be attached to the large metal lids (that are also not recessed but sticking out) the lock got mangled and was destroyed. Those lock lids have another nasty disadvantage, they easily damage other suitcases. After almost 4 years the case is still holding up although the lid is a little harder to close as there are some dents and bends, but not too bad. When standing upright it tends to lean over but doesn’t actually fall over. It needs some extra support at the bottom. Removed the rubber support on the long side as it was mounted with a bolt sticking inside and damaging my organizers. I would say it’s a good case, but it would be great if they would improve the closing mechanism. ... show more

  • Great case
I was tired of using my other tool case that everything just gets thrown into. My tools are so organized now and I can see if I left a tool out easily. I've been using this case for almost a year now and I'm very happy with it.

  • Overall really nice
Great case, very durable. Wish the latches were different, they are a little flimsy and doesn’t take much to accidentally open them. Storage space is great, and the unit rolls nicely through airports and job sites. Handles are well sorted and attached nicely.

  • Well portioned
Overall I liked the case. I think the pallets could be more accommodating to handle tools other than just round handles. Only dislike, is that when the case is loaded with tools. The case becomes front heavy, when standing in the upright position. The case tips over. There should be lugs to have the case level in the upright position. ... show more

  • I don't remember...
I don't remember buying this tool box. The one I bought does not have wheels. I don't recall buying it and returning it, but then again I am getting old...

  • Light but tough. You can carry a lot of tools in this
Every pound a case weighs is a pound of tools you cannot check on an airplane due to 50 lb restriction. This case is light and tough....works great!

  • Very nice case at a great price compared to other options
Very nice case at a great price compared to other options. The tool pallets are also well made and hold a lot. My only complaint is the TSA padlock provided "Free with Purchase" is so unsubstantial it could be jimmied open with about anything. Nice try, but if you're going to include a lock, please make it one that requires a bolt cutter to breech. ... show more
