I am the kind of person to read reviews for hours until I buy something. I’ve wanted to upgrade from the basic kindle for a while and after looking through all the models, the oasis seemed like the best for me. I loved having the buttons since I didn’t like having to swipe through every page. I was worried that this is an older release and they haven’t had any model newer than 2019 which is why I was seriously considering the paper white. The paper white had it all except the buttons! In the end, I decided for the buttons and the extra hand holding room of the oasis since I love to read one handed. BATTERY LIFE: For everyone saying this dies so quickly, what are you doing?? I charged it up fully and took it on a week long trip. With airplane mode on, I finished two books of about 200-300 pages each and had about 50% battery left. I had the brightness up decently and turned on night mode in the evening. Maybe it doesn’t last weeks like the basic kindle does but I don’t need it to. I can charge every night if I wanted to. Honestly, I can’t fault anything except one thing that even my basic kindle did, imprints. You can sometimes see the imprint of previous pages or the ads from the Lock Screen. It personally doesn’t bother me but if you hate that fuzziness, I would go with the most recent model of the paper white since I believe it doesn’t have that problem with the new technology. Also, the price is a bit steep. I would say wait until it goes on sale, and buy refurbished! I’ve had zero problems with my refurbished kindle and it looked brand new out of the box. I got the good one and it is beautiful. I bought an envelope case for it and the only part that got damaged is the back which I dropped while unplugging it. I did scratch the back a bit so just be careful and use a clear case or keep it in a fully cover case when not reading. Oh! Also it’s very lightweight and easy to hold! Overall: 9.5/10 ... show more

I have experienced recurring battery issues with the Kindle Oasis. I posted an effusively positive review shortly after receiving my unit nearly a year ago. The Oasis boasts the best combination of features yet, combining the fantastic paperwhite reading experience with new buttons for page turning. This was my fourth or fifth Kindle and I splurged for the ad-free model. It performed beautifully for the first 10 months and then the battery went from lasting a week and a half or more to completely depleting in only a few days or less. This happened to me two days into my most recent trip. Yes I was able to continue reading using the Kindle app on my phone, but for all of us who are sold on Kindle foremost for its convenience when traveling, it's all about battery life. The warranty promises replacement up to a year from purchase. When I contacted customer support I was told I would not receive a refurbished unit and that they would try to repair my Oasis. But two days later a refurbished replacement unit arrived. I charged it, synchronized it with my data, updated its software, and it lost 15% of its power overnight and has continued to lose power at a rate much faster than any other Kindle model I have owned. I am not currently using it for audiobooks and I never have more than a few books downloaded to the device at any given time. I spent some of my career in libraries and archives and was reluctant to give up the tactile pleasure of real books until they became too much of a burden in my suitcase. I depend on the Kindle to hold its charge, especially when traveling to countries with different voltage. I am disappointed that I will now always have to travel with a charger and adapter when necessary. In my experience with my original and replacement Oasis units, the battery life has not lived up to the product description. Postscript: This is an honest review and the overwhelming majority of my reviews are enthusiastically positive. Lately Amazon has deleted my negative reviews.     • Came with Russian selected as the language. Had to search how to replace language as english.

I will update after I have had it for a while to see the battery's life. was a nuisance to find out how to replace the language to English but finally figured it out thanks to another Kindle user who had the same issue

I've been a Kindle reader for about 18 months, and I liked it so much that I upgraded to the Kindle Oasis for the page-turner buttons. I have small hands, and this version is bigger than my last version, so we'll see how my hands can handle it. So far, setting it up has been easy. One frustration is that there were no instructions included in the package on how to operate the device. I could never figure out how to highlight passages using my old one. This time, I did an internet search and found YouTube videos that explain how many of the functions work, and how do do them with decent explanations. Some of us are not as computer literate as others. With this new Oasis, I am finally learning how to truly work all of the functions. Another frustration is that when I found the user manual online for the Oasis Kindle Generation 10, the menu options are much different than the menu options in the manual (provided electronically by Amazon) which is frustrating. Some menu options in the instructions were not available in my new Kindle's menu options, for the exact model I purchased, which has been frustrating. I live in the US, so all options should be there, IMO. One tip I was given by another Kindle user, is that if you turn on Airplane Mode, the battery will last weeks, and I have found that to be true on my old Kindle; hopefully true with this new one. I will update this review after I've had some time to read a book on it. Love the page-turner buttons, which can be reversed depending on what's easiest for a person's hands. I'm hoping that having small hands, this larger size Kindle won't be an issue. Fingers crossed. ... show more

I forgot it was a refurbished Kindle until I came back to write this review. It is in PERFECT condition. Takes a minute to learn your way around it, but once you get the hang of it you're hooked! Amazing quality, great features, and I got it discounted so even better!
