Primarily soapy and juniper notes. It lasts quite a while (3-5 hours). This scent is not for me. It reminds me of a barbershop or what my Grandpa wears. It isn't bad, per se, but the fragrance landscape has changed quite a bit since the 1970s.

Everyone who gets a whiff of this loves it! My husband never smelled better. I call it his “sexy scent”. Try it on your man, it’s really nice and you only need one spray.

I got my first bottle of 1881 in 2000 at Saphoras on the Champs Elise in Paris. It lasts so long, that a light spray will do you all day. People will walk up to you and ask you what you are wearing long after you can no longer smell it. I used it practically every day since my purchase, and it finally gave up the ghost in 2008. When I got to America, a relative asked me what it was, and when I told him, he said emphatically, "There ain't nothing like that here!" Hard to find, I thought I had found it at fragrances.com, but alas, they were sold out. I took a chance on Amazon, and voila! They had it! It is the only cologne I have ever worn since I first purchased it ten years ago. Of course, there are other great fragrances out there, but there is something about 1881 that sets it apart from all the others. The hint of spice is very nice. Nino Cerruti probably retired just off the money he made on this.

I first purchased 1881 while on holiday in Australia. It quickly became my go to scent. The ladies there loved me, and they could not get enough of the cologne. Back in California, I stood out because I was not smelling like every other guy in the club. I was doing quite well with the women, until I left the magic bottle in a Las Vegas hotel room. I searched for a few years but Cerruti was not sold anywhere I looked in the United States. Until Amazon said, "You want that? I got it." And I have a new bottle. The girlfriend can't keep her hands off me when I wear it. We can't go back into that church, but with a little 1881, she'll be saying "Oh God" in no time.

I bought a bottle of this fragrance at Nordstrom's back in the late 90's (yes I'm old) and remember it as a refreshing yet sophisticated. I jumped in on this again and am happy I did. Still love the scent now as I did then and the price & quantity made this a high value purchase. I've been a fragrance hound since my early days and adding this to my collection (Le Labo, Tom Ford Private Blend, Rasasi and Prada to name a few) is certainly a good thing! Smelling good has never been easier!
