  • Really heals and soothes
As soon as I opened this and it looked like straight up Vaseline, I was ready to just return it. But out of desperation I decided to give it a try. I’m so glad I did! I had a chemical burn on my face from a face wash I tried, as well as damaged skin from a botched at home waxing 😬 This stuff instantly soothed and protected my skin, and calmed the redness. With this stuff my skin was healed within days rather than weeks. Only downside, is it definitely makes your skin look super greasy. But it really does speed healing so much! ... show more

  • GET THIS if aquaphor burns! My #1 healer
My 3 y/o has had eczema on all of his limbs since he was a few months old. He has dupixent shots but it still comes through. This stuff is AMAZING. I try to put on every other day. After a shower or a flare up, I put this on, then zinc oxide cream over the top. Then wrap in wet gauze and cover with little arm sleeves “his hulk arms” I got on Amazon. And when he wakes up his skin is like completely reset and brand new. Now buying it in tub form next. Aquaphor burns his skin because of the lanolin! This has never burned. Will always be my #1 product ... show more

  • Different formula, but still effective
I ordered the 5 oz tube of CeraVe Healing Ointment, which is the “new and improved” formula. I’ve used the older version for years, so I was curious to see if I would notice any real differences. The texture is the first thing I noticed. This version feels a bit thicker and creamier going on. It still has that classic heavy, occlusive petrolatum feel, but it also comes across slightly tackier and a little more set on the skin, whereas the older version felt more like it just sat on top and was a bit more slick. Comparing the ingredient lists, there are some clear formulation changes. The petrolatum content has been increased from 46.5% to 49.5%, and the supporting base has shifted a bit, with newer ingredients like microcrystalline wax, synthetic wax, glycerin, caprylyl glycol, and sodium hyaluronate, while some older components like dimethicone and phenoxyethanol have been removed. Functionally, it still does the same job, but the texture difference is noticeable in use. From what I understand, changes like this are often less about reinventing the product and more about improving texture stability, manufacturing consistency, and updating the formula to match current ingredient trends and marketing preferences. In practice, it feels like a slightly heavier, more adhesive version of the original rather than a completely different product. One thing I can already comment on from experience is that the older formula tended to separate a bit toward the end of the tube, so I’m hoping this updated version holds together better over time. Functionally, it still performs very well. The base is still petrolatum, supported by ceramides (NP, AP, EOP), cholesterol, panthenol, phytosphingosine, and other barrier-supporting ingredients. It remains one of the most effective occlusives I’ve used for dry, irritated skin. One important personal note: CeraVe is not cruelty-free, as it is owned by L’Oréal. This is the one product I still choose to purchase knowing that, because I haven’t found another occlusive that works quite as well for my skin. I don’t love compromising on that, but in this case the performance has been hard to replace. Overall, I still think it’s an excellent healing ointment. The changes feel more like a texture and formulation refinement than a dramatic improvement, but it still earns its place in my routine. Price at time of review: $11.97 ... show more

  • Great for feet, hands, lips, and more!
I love this ointment! I strongly prefer its texture over things like Vaseline or Aquaphor. The CeraVe ointment is far less greasy than the others. It's very thick, so you don't need a ton of it at one time. It's great for when I deal with things like cracked heels, cracked cuticles, chapped lips, really dry skin, etc. The only problem is that it can be hard to squeeze out of the tube. My fix for that is not to use the flip-top cap (which has a very small opening), but to take the whole cap off (which creates a larger opening that's much easier to squeeze the ointment through.) I also appreciate that it comes in the five-ounce size. That lasts a lot longer than the three-ounce tube, but isn't a huge tub like the 12-ounce one. I highly recommend this product! ... show more

  • Nice!
This feels great and works great! I put a little on, then some lipstick, works great, no taste or smell. The bad: the stuff is so thick in the tube you have to really work hard to get any out!! I got a cosmetic jar and emptied the tube into it, but it was not easy, and I could not get it all out, but this will last me a very long time so it is still a good value for the price. ... show more

  • Best skin barrier ever!
This ointment absolutely saved my skin. I had a bad reaction from tretinoin after accidentally applying it too close to my eyes, and my eyelids became extremely irritated—almost swollen shut. It was painful, tight, and honestly a little scary. I started using this, and within three days my skin was completely healed. The difference was incredible. It immediately soothed the irritation, reduced the swelling, and helped repair my skin barrier faster than anything I’ve ever tried. I have very sensitive skin, and this didn’t sting or cause any additional irritation at all. It’s simple, effective, and does exactly what it claims. A little goes a long way, and it creates the perfect protective layer while your skin heals. This is now a staple in my routine, especially when using actives like tretinoin. If your skin is compromised, irritated, or over-treated, this is something you want on hand. Total must-have. ... show more

  • Hands Down the Best Lip Balm — Nothing Else Comes Close
CeraVe Healing Ointment is amazing for my lips. I’ve tried tons of lip balms — Vaseline, Burt’s Bees, even Aquaphor — but this one just works better. It keeps my lips soft, hydrated, and protected for hours without feeling greasy. I also use it on dry spots anywhere — cuticles, hands, and patches of skin in winter. It locks in moisture and heals fast. If you want a comparison, I’d say CeraVe vs. Aquaphor is like Pepsi vs. Coke or Amazon vs. Walmart — both are good, but for me, CeraVe wins most time. It spreads smoothly, feels light, and lasts all day. Seriously, toss the other lip balms and grab this — you won’t regret it. ... show more

  • Gentle and lasts forever
Love love love this stuff! A tiny bit goes a very long way so it will last for so long. Well worth the price given how long it’ll last. It feels a lot better on than a regular petroleum jelly and absorbs well. It’s thick so you need less than you think. Great on cracked knuckles and I haven’t experienced any greasy feeling or stickiness like other products. Very gentle on irritated skin! ... show more
