The base is only about 4 by 4 inches. The small nails are ceramic as well and fit into the base easily. They do seem fragile so you should be a bit careful with them. Installation/setup: Place nails in the mat as needed to suspend your ceramic piece while it’s in your kiln. Final thoughts: Use caution with your glazes, if they run they will still get on your mat. The stilts are tall enough, keeping your ceramic item off your shelf and saving those expensive items. I like this and I’m glad I got it. ⭐️1 star - I don't recommend it at all, poor quality. ⭐️⭐️ 2 stars - I don't recommend it, it has multiple faults, or a very high price. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 stars - It's passable, It has some faults but the quality is ok for what it is. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 stars - Product quite acceptable, it does what it promises. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars - Product that I totally recommend.

I fire at a community studio where we have to supply our own stilts. I have been hesitant to get the nice ones that are individual stilts because I’m afraid of losing them. This is a good solution for my smaller pieces. It comes with plenty of nails and being able to configure them is pretty useful. The nails also have a little bit of wiggle room so they’re easy to move around. I’ll update my review with results once my pieces comes back.
