Features

  • 3 vibration suppression pads go under your tripod legs to stabilize your telescope and prevent unwanted shaking.
  • Engineered by Celestron specifically to dampen vibrations.
  • Works on any surface.

Description

Wind, an unsteady tripod, or even an accidental bump can disturb your image quality. Keep your telescope still while observing with these sturdy pads. Simply place your tripod legs on top of the pads to absorb shock and stabilize your telescope. Celestron’s set of three Vibration Suppression Pads are manufactured using Sorbothane (available only in the USA) recognized worldwide as the ultimate material for attenuating shock, isolating vibration and damping noise. No synthetic rubber or polymer can dissipate energy as effectively. BEWARE OF CHEAPER KNOCK-OFFS USING LESS CAPABLE MATERIALS! Imitations use silicon which is low-cost, does not work well, and may melt in the sun. Similar materials used in China look and feel the same, but do not perform half as well as products using Sorbothane.

Style: Pad
I'm a huge skeptic of what appear to be worthless accessories, or at least items which make very marginal gains. Well... These things work... really well. My scope is mounted on a Celestron CGEM DX, and I've gotten to pretty well know how much instability is associated with the use of this mount. I know how much the image will shake and how long based on the eyepiece I use, the rate of slew I use and how hard I bump the eyepiece from routine viewing with this particular mount. The first night of use and I couldn't believe how well these things absorb vibrations from mount manipulation. It literally felt like I upgraded mounts. The concrete pad where my telescope is placed is rock solid and doesn't suffer from vibrations, even if you start jumping around, I mainly purchased these to save my tripod legs from wear but these things keep vibrations from reciprocating back to the telescope during slewing, viewing, and photography. It's rare for me to praise a product as I usually have lofty expectations, but for forty bucks it's well worth it. ... show more

Style: Pad
These things are big and feels solid on hand. And they magically reduces vibrations greatly for my a bit flimsy 3 section camera tripod leg + gear head + C6 setup. At 300X magnification, before having these pads, my building seems vibrating and causes the image to vibrate at high frequency very often, after adding these pads, vibrations induced from floor are greatly reduced! And vibration settling time from touching the tripod / focuser seems to damp down twice faster. I know, this is kind of expensive and those replica pads are 50% cheaper, but I have to trust Celestron on this one because they claim (according to their website) these are made of Sorbothane, while the other replica never claimed to use the same material. ... show more

  • Waste of money
Style: Pad
I purchased these to give them a try since I'd heard so much about them being useful. First of all they are just pieces of plastic with a crater in the middle for holding a telescope leg(s). Next they have an orange rubberized round trim ring of unknown purpose that is sticky to the touch. Why this is I do not know but it will grab onto dust, dirt, leaves, debris and make these extremely difficult to keep clean. And of course the stability. For my mounts, and I have many for various telescopes from 4" to 12" they did nothing to damp the vibration. Instructions included say that one of the three dots on the bottom must be pointed toward the center of the tripod, difficult at best at night. They are black so seeing them at night will be a challenge when it's time to pack things up. To me at least, a total waste of money. Perhaps if your tripod is far too small for the scope you have on it, this might make a difference. I could not find any difference whatsoever. ... show more

  • Definitely a great purchase!
Style: Pad
Purchased these for our Star Sense Explorer 80 MM and use them for our Nexstar 8 SE as well. Doesn't completely cut out the vibration but about a 90% improvement! Without them, the slightest bump or the changing of the eyepiece would send the object being viewed bouncing but with these it has made the movement very subtle and stops after a second or two. Definitely worth the money! Been using them for months, in the heat and now the cold...and no issues to report. ... show more

  • Work very well with my SkyWatcher mount and an 8 inch SCT
Style: Pad
These pads make the telescope noticeably more stable, and the tripod is easier to level on grass/soil because pads spread the weight of each leg out over a wider area. The damping is quite effective. Definitely worth the price. My only criticism is that they aren't perfectly manufactured - they don't look as pretty in real life as the photographs. The orange damping material kind of sticks up and bulges out a bit. Makes no difference to how they work. ... show more

  • Absolute necessity
Style: Pad
I purchased this item for my Celestron Nexstar 8SE, and I have been using it ever since. The pads are an absolute necessity for any viewing; they reduced the vibration time from more than 5 seconds to less than 5 oscillations. Without the pads, it was difficult to use the scope, as a light touch caused vibrations that made even focusing difficult. There is a night-and-day difference with these pads. The only reason that I gave these pads less than 5 stars is the cost... similar products, under a non-Celestron name, could be purchased for a much cheaper price. ... show more

  • Does the job
Style: Pad
I have two Tele Vue refractors: an NP101 and a TV 76, which I use on a Stellarvue alt-az head, on an extension pier, mounted to a German Nido surveyor tripod. I have had issues with vibration damping, particularly on a hard surface, like garden pavers. These pads greatly reduce the damping time to practically nothing. ... show more
