Description

The Celestron StarSense Autoguider is an all-in-one accessory that makes using your telescope easier and more rewarding than ever. This powerful, compact device connects to your Celestron mount to enhance its pointing accuracy. It makes tiny adjustments to the mount’s tracking to keep your target locked in for sharp, detailed images over long exposure times. Whether you’re an experienced astroimager or just starting, you’ll have more quality time under the stars. The StarSense Autoguider features a high-quality 4-element optical design devised by the famed optical designer Mark Ackermann, a highly sensitive Sony IMX462LLR-C, monochrome, back-illuminated CMOS image sensor, and an onboard computer working together to provide exceptional guiding accuracy and deliver sharper images. With no user input needed, StarSense Autoguider can independently align your telescope to the night sky in about three minutes. Celestron’s patented technology “sees” star patterns overhead and matches them to its internal database to align the telescope to the night sky. StarSense Autoguider also dramatically simplifies the polar alignment process when used with a German equatorial mount. What’s more, precise GoTo functionality places your celestial objects in the center of the field—even if you’re using a high-powered eyepiece or today’s smallest astroimaging camera sensors. This one simple tool eliminates the need for additional accessories when autoguiding. StarSense Autoguider works with CGX-L, CGX, CGEM II, Advanced VX, CPC GPS XLT, CPC Deluxe HD, NexStar Evolution, and NexStar SE computerized mounts. You can control the autoguider via your NexStar+ hand control, CPWI telescope control software via PC or WiFi with the addition of the SkyPortal WiFi Module. In heavy dew conditions, an included dew shield helps prevent dew from forming on the exterior of the objective lens. It also acts as a lens shade to block stray light. Simply thread it onto the front of the autoguider before use.

  • Greatttttt
Absolutely amazing. Looks great, durable.. I dropped this on concrete like two times has not broke once! Great, pricy, but amazing!!!!! Great if you only want to use hand controller, easy guiding, already focused!

  • Glad I purchased
All I can say is amazing! Nothing feels better than telling my telescope where to go, and have it precisely put the object in the middle of my eyepiece, almost every, single, time. I'm still learning some nuances with this auto-guider, but what I have found to work is this: Power up the scope from scratch, connect via Wi-Fi if you have it (that is a separate purchase), auto align through Celestron's app, ensure the guide camera is calibrated to the telescope, then use the app with the "precise go to" mode enabled (in settings), I can reliably hit targets first time. Now, I can get by without using the app, but I found it is easier to point and click where I want to go, instead of going through the menus on my telescopes hand control. With that said, I did have some issues at first, but found that if I took things methodically, and insured that I was fully calibrated, those issues went away. If something doesn't seem right, don't be afraid to cycle power to the telescope and start over. I also found that I wasn't patient enough... I thought the scope was done moving to where it needed to go, but it was actually using the camera to track objects close where I was going, only to move precisely to my target after a few seconds. Whether I'm using the app or the hand control, it does show this process and I just wasn't paying attention. If you are used to any of Celestron's auto align functions, you are going to be right at home adding this guider to your telescope. ... show more

  • Not as easy as they make it sound
We had 3 people trying to get this to work. One with a masters in computer programming and a PhD in archives (including digital archives), one an IT person, and one an astrophysics major and after 3 nights couldn't get it to work. Not as easy as they make it out to be. Just had to return it.

  • V2 Works great - but is $150 too much
New to Astrophotography and picked up this new v2 guider. The initial setup is easy and the go to function works as expected. The problem I have is I performed a center, and it worked that first setup. When I set up for another lunar evening photo shoot, the alignment wasn't exactly centered. I may not have done it right by correcting the centering undoing the AZ mount position and re-tightening them so very possible it is my fault. The reason for 4 stars, is it is very expensive at $800. By comparison to ZWO - their 30/f5 and asi174mm mini combo is $650. ... show more

  • Star sense upgrade to star sense Auto guider big mistake
Looks great sounds great. Don’t believe everything you see in here. Total combined software does not work worth a damn. Had to eliminate Celestron software and use Nina, sharp cap and Ascom. Days and days are frustration with their software and twice about buying one of these when you figure you’ve built a good rig. It’s way too much for the software to handle fault after fault after fault. ... show more

  • Expensive but worth it
Been using version 1 for over a year now with both an AVX and then a CGX mount. It tracks very well up to 4 minutes for me using a SCT as the OTA. I have it connected to CPWI as the controller for the setup along with NINA for Astrophotography. Easier than PHD2 or ASI as I really don’t need to set it up each time. I would recommend a filter like SVBONY CLS filter if you live in a light polluted area. Only quirk is updating drivers for the mount and the guider when you buy. Once past that it is great! ... show more
