I currently own eight Cecilio cvn-600 violins. What I like about these violins is the potential to create a violin with sound quality worth thousands of dollars. My collection consist of the first cvn-600 to current production. I currently have a new cvn-600 on order. What is interesting is that the weight of each cvn-600 violin has the same weight within 0.3 oz. This proves to me that Cecilio uses CNC to create their violins. This model violin has been reduced in price over the years, $500 to $160. It is currently an exceptional value. Quality has decreased slightly over the years of production, but improving lately. Cecilio has claimed in the past that the tonewoods for the cvn-600 are aged seven years. I don't believe that's true for their current production cvn-600. As good as it is out of the box, There are improvements that can be made to this violin. The first is to replace the pegs with Wittner geared pegs. No more peg slipping. The second is to use better strings, Tonica or Fidderman are good. The third is to use a better bow, like the Fiddlerman bows. I also replace the tailpiece with a carved boxwood harp tailpiece, Musical String, tailgut, MI&VI Titanium Alloy Violin Tail Gut, and chinrest, Mulko Violin Part (GL3522). These parts are available on Amazon. Of course there are sound improvements that can be made like the position of the sound post, bridge fitting and placement, etc., but those adjustments are beyond the scope of this review. Bottom line is that the Cecilio cvn-600 is a very good value which can be improved to have it compete with violins worth thousands of dollars. If you get a bad cvn-600, send it back for replacement. I will update this review after I receive my ninth Cecilio cvn-600. 01/18/25: I received my ninth Cecilo cvn-600 today. The bridge was up and it tuned perfectly in a minute or less. This cvn-600 is beautiful with intense flaming in the maple back and ribs. The spruce top is very fine grained, just what a quality violin should be. The sound is great even with the stock strings provided. I can't wait to pimp out this violin with geared pegs, new strings, new tailpiece and chin-rest. If you get a cvn-600 violin as good as the one that I just received, dance in the streets because you have received a great value. A violin at $160 with this quality is an amazing value. 04/09/25: I just received my 10th Cecilio cvn-600 from an auction site for less than $90. It is beautiful, the flaming of the maple single piece back is second to none. I am in the process of pimping out this violin with geared pegs, boxwood harp tailpiece, new chin rest and new strings. The serial number of this violin puts it somewhere midpoint between my oldest cvn-600 and current production. The one problem I found was that the sound post was many millimeters further behind the bridge than it should have been. That was easily corrected. There are Cecilio cvn-600 deals out there, look for them. You don't need to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars for a quality violin. I hope this review revision helps you. 04/16/25: The last cvn-600 purchased at an auction house for a cost of less than $90 encouraged to buy another from the same auction vendor, I paid $82 for my 11th cvn-600. Sometimes things are just too good to be true. The violin was sold as "open box". The violin body is as beautiful as my previous cvn-600, strong flaming on the back and sides, nice spruce top. Tapping the body suggests that it will be a very good sounding violin. However, it had a couple of issues. The first issue was that the sound post was missing and the second was that the "G" string was broken. Messages to the vendor receive no reply. I can easily deal with installing a sound post and restringing the violin, but could you? One may pay more for a cvn-600 at Amazon, but you then have the ability to easily return a defective violin for refund or replacement. This new cvn-600 will be pimped out like the other 10 cvn-600. Each of my pimped out cvn-600 weigh 16.5oz, +-0.2oz.

I bought the Cecilio CVN-600 after looking through reviews here and on YouTube. It was highly recommended years ago, but there was some concern that the quality had gone down. Also, the photos of the violin and package that I came across varied. I’ve attached photos of the violin I received and am very pleased with the way it looks and sounds, and you can see exactly how it looks. Lovely honey toned wood, sturdy and well-made. Rich full sound. Some of the photos at Amazon showed the violin with only one fine tuner, but this model did come with four gold plated fine tuners. It came with the shoulder rest, extra strings, extra bridge, rosin, tuner/metronome and book. The book is connected to an online site where you can see videos of the lessons and hear the music. There are also many helpful videos available everywhere online. The shoulder rest is very comfortable for me. I use the Pano Tuner free app instead of the tuner that came with the violin because I find it easier to use and it shows whether you need to loosen or tighten the string to get where you want to be. I got the violin when it was on Amazon for $179. which was within my budget and have had it for about a week. The price on Amazon seems to fluctuate quite a lot. I’m not sure I would have bought it for the more than $400. that it sometimes is. I think I would have gone for a Bunnel from Kennedy Violins if I had that much to spend, but very happy with this Cecilio CVN-600.

I ordered this over two years ago as an adult beginner. It was priced higher than the current offering and, according to reviews in other places, was the only Cecillo offering at the time that was not a violin shaped object. I had to setup the bridge when it arrived and I found lots of videos that got me up and running. It sounded okay but not great for a beginner. More of that was my ability than the instrument. I learned to play a few songs and never appreciated the sound under my ear especially on the G string. Removing the fine tuners on all but the E string improved the sound greatly. I did snap the D string while tuning immediately after removing the tuners and bought a replacement locally with the same strings. At the shop I was told they thought the sound post was misplaced but I would need to leave it and come back later to retrieve the instrument. I opted not to do this and I haven’t felt the need to get this checked further. The bows are not great but they work as they should for a student. After extensive use one of the bows started to break a lot of hair. I switched to the second bow and ordered a carbon fiber from Fiddlerman. Once that bow arrived I have not used the second bow that came with the violin. The instrument looks great and feels great in the hands. Where the shoulder rest attaches has removed some of the varnish on one side. Probably my fault as I was initially moving it around a lot until I found the most comfortable spot. The included shoulder rest sucks and I replaced it with a Kun. Some people complain about the rosin but I haven’t had any issues. People that recommended this violin in 2018-2020 no longer recommend it because it seems the quality has gone down. The current price is almost half what it cost two years ago. Considering real inflation and the current price of $200, this is almost 75% less money than two years ago. I have not touched any of their current offerings to be able to make a comparison but I would not buy it knowing the price has gone down so much. I would be afraid that quality matches the reduced price. I cannot say that has happened. I do not regret this purchase but, if I had to do it over again, I would spend about $500 on a Fiddlerman Concert deluxe rather than this. I do enjoy it and continue to play it every day. I do not plan to replace it for quite awhile.
