This excavator is good quality--not mostly plastic. I was impressed with the quality of the construction and the size. It's not small like some others. My son's eyes lit up when he saw it. We bought it for him to give to replace one he had accidentally broken and he was thrilled to give it to the other kid and "show" him how it worked.     • Not easy for a kid to use
I really wanted to love this product. It looks cool, is built well and what little boy doesn't think excavators are the neatest thing? Got this and my son did love it, but in practicality it is hard for him to use. You could argue he is just to young but even when I use it playing with him, it take patience to get it to work well. Trying to grab sand from the sandbox and put it a dump truck bed is hard as you loose half the sand trying to get it in. I mean now that he's had it for going on a year, he does operate it fairly well, I just think there is a fairly large learning curve with this, when I feel it should of been designed to be easier to use. ... show more

There is a lot of plastic on this toy, the body panels are metal however, my son loves playing with it but the handle that lifts the bucket up and down broke after only a week (granted he is very rough with his toys). It is fixable and still useable.

The bucket on the excavator is very heavy and will not stay in an extended position. You have to hold the entire toy down in order to use it. My grandson was not impressed and he loves construction toys.
