I bought this trowel for my mom after being frustrated for year from cheap versions that bent within a matter of months. I focused on finding something that seemed sturdy enough and I found it with this particular trowel. It's not heavy by any means, but don't expect a plastic/cheap steel type lightness from more disposable products of this type. Right away I can tell this thing is quality made, the "neck" is welded to the actual shovel part. It'll easily stand up to light gardening work, and hasn't balked at moving more soil for those jobs where you don't necessarily want to break out a shovel. The handle is ergonomic and comfortable, and nicely smoothed without any excess lacquer. That said, it IS wooden which means that you'll need to take care of it and not leave it outside to the elements for days/weeks at a time. Putting it in a shed after every use and the occasional rubdown with an oil of some kind should work just fine. I see it as a good reminder to take care of your gear and clean up the workplace after your repotting, weeding, etc, etc. The price was for me was a bargain given how sturdy this thing is. I'll return to update in the event something doesn't pan out well.

Solid garden trowel, large scoop by comparison to popular brands, stainless, welded, with a tang, smooth and nicely finished hardwood handle. A bit pricier than some and well worth it!

You have to pay a bit more for quality tools, but always well worth it. This is, by all indications, of superior quality and should last me for years.

After reading several reviews of other trowels on Amazon with identical ratings, it was the remarks of people who used their trowels in heavy clay areas. They weren't happy about their purchases because their trowels bent. I saw no complaints about Cate's. Two other things: 1. It's solid construction. The handle and welded neck at the trowel are solid. 2. The built-in ruler.
