I only change my oil around once a year because I don't drive much so I know what oils come out so black light won't pass thru and what oils still have some transparency and life when drained. This, Pennzoil Platinum, Valvoline and Mobil 1 are the ONLY brands I'll use now ... show more

I have bought this product before. My 2010 F150 has 125k miles on it. When I was running Motorcraft, and other oils in my truck did not do very well mileage wise. I was getting about 12 to 13 combined. I put the Castrol oil in and I am back up to 17 to 18 miles per gallon combined. When on the highway I was getting about 20 miles per gallon. I have 5.4 liter Triton engine and that is pretty good for that engine with 20 in tires. It was also loaded up with luggage, and emergency equipment for what ever might happen while traveling. I am a veteran and a boy scout. Be prepared and you can't use it if you don't have it with you. Any way with the price of gasoline, and the price of everything climbing faster than income now days. You do what you can to protect your ride. I am not willing to pay for the price of a decent truck at these indecent prices. Also it helps to keep a higher quality oil filter in use! The Paper one are good for 3000 miles or less, and I would go with less with a paper filter, while the others are good for at least 5k or more. ... show more

It's been a year since I put this in my 2003 VW Passat W8 and I looked at last week and it's just as clean as the day I put it in, (very very close). It's actually clearer now than other oils are brand new. It was a bargain last year. I guess it was on sale. I don't know how to predict those. I will say that if you bring your own oil and filter, the cost to change your oil is very pleasant. You've paid in advance, so it's still expensive to have a car. It's just great that you can know the quality of what's going in your car. The clarity may have been partly due to the Bosch oil filter. It's specs are much better than other brands. install and you know the filter is the best. Bosch cabin filters are awesome too. I'd recommend buying oil filters and cabin filters in quantity so you don't have to go to the trouble of buying them. Just get the oil. (Does oil store well? I began to doubt that. So I'm not recommending that.) I am here to buy it again, so I'd recommend doing these things too. If you take your car to an oil change place, be sure you pick out quality oil, oil filter and cabin filter beforehand, and bring them when you go. It's your assurance that your doing the best you can for your car, and not just leaving it up to the Quicky Change place's choices for their benefit. And yes, of course it's great to see that the oil change will be so cheap by comparison to buying their oil at the same time. It may be me tricking myself by spreading out the costs, call it what you will. It's still nice to know everything is my choosing and the oil change charge will be cheap, since you're bringing your own stuff. It's like a reward for taking the time and trouble to shop for what you think is best. You might change your mind later. Who knows? I liked this oil and I liked the Bosch filters I bought too. This oil seems like it's smoother at high RPM, over 6,000. That's where I noticed the engine sounding like it's "taking it easy". Before, I really avoided driving in that range, but it feels more comfortable. That's got to be a good sign for the oil. In fact, when you stomp on the gas, the car overreacts and downshifts twice, which lowers the power to the wheels. Best to just ease it up quickly, no stomp. But I was testing the car and noticed that it no longer slows the car when doing this. It's just the beginning of a more normal acceleration. That's better oil. Anyway, your performance may vary but I don't think you can go wrong with this oil. It's the best stuff I've ever had in any of the cars I've owned. That says a lot. ... show more

I used to put Mobile 1 full synthetic oils on my vehicles. But I started to use Castrol Edge 20,000 mile full synthetic oil, the engine runs smoother & quieter on all my two Nissan, Mercury Mountaineer V8 AWD & Saab 9-5 Aero XWD with V6 turbo engines. I usually change my oil either 6,000 miles or 6 months whichever comes first. I highly recommend this oil to all my friends & family. I love this product!!! ... show more

    • This is My Current Favorite Oil for GDI Engines
Size: 5 Quart Style: Advanced Full Synthetic Configuration: 5W-30
I hesitate to say this is the "best" oil for GDI engines because there's very little difference between motor oils once you get to the top shelf. But this one is my current favorite. I like the numbers, especially the Noack and TEOST; I like the SP and ILSAC 6; and I like the fact that it's not ridiculously expensive. Speaking of which, using cheap oil to save literally a few bucks a year is foolhardy, especially if your car has a GDI engine. To oversimplify a bit, this oil has very low vapor pressure, meaning it offgasses less in the way of fumes. The fumes that come off engine oil wind up in the PCV system, where they're fed into the intake to be burned off. Those fumes are also a prime cause of the carbon deposits on the intake valves that plague GDI engines: so choosing an oil with a lower vapor pressure is one of the keys to keeping your car's GDI engine running well. This oil combines excellent volatility properties with excellent lubricity, which is the nutshell explanation of why it's my current favorite oil. I inspect the innards of my car's engine with a borescope from time to time, and Castrol Edge Advanced is one of the reasons it's so clean. As I said, however, all the oils on the top shelf are good. This is just the one I liked back after extensive and painstaking research. Use this oil more often than others and my engine has run the same for 145,000 miles over 11 years. Mileage has seemed to improve over the last few years but I also take longer trips. Match with high quality filter.
