The description was misleading, the CTK 2550’s are NOT midi capable. As a piano teacher, a general midi connection is a requirement for my students. This model only plugs into a computer or iPad via audio cable. Also, many answered questions by various people were also confusing because some implied that it was midi capable (clearly they do not understand the difference). If you go to Casio’s website and read the manual, it is only an audio connection. What is the difference? With general midi, you can run real assessment software (not the funky audio and visual only apps) as a learning tool. I am a piano teacher and a keyboard is a great way to get the younger crowd started (7 and under) for a short period of time. Maybe the first six months to a year. After that, a full-size digital piano with weighted keys (rather than touch sensitive) is recommended for correct technique development. For aspiring piano students, the term “touch sensitive” only means that when you press the key, it plays. There is no dynamic control i.e., soft, medium, loud. One sound only. Weighted, hammer-action keys provide weight and dynamic control for proper development and simulate the action of a real, acoustic piano. Look for the terms weighted, graduated and hammer action. The CTK-2550 is basically a music toy and as a piano teacher, I DO NOT recommend these to my students as we use fun practice tools and assessment software via internet with general midi connectivity. Casio makes some great products, but this one is a toy. If you or your child is a piano student, Get a CTK 3500 or above, for about the same price. Better yet, go digital and get into Casio’s Privia line, all of which are full-sized 88-key weighted, hammer-action digitals, and midi-capable. It’s a bit more money but you will have both a happier and more motivated student (a quality instrument makes all the difference) and a happy teacher. If you are on a tight budget, start with a CTK 3500 or above and plan to upgrade to digital after a year or so. I purchased this for a student and while I understand all the specs, I was mislead by the description on Amazon. It has been sent back and I actually purchased something elsewhere, as it is the second time I was duped by a misleading description on the Amazon website. ... show more

Casio CTK-2550 PPK 61-Key Premium Keyboard Pack: If you're a beginning pianist looking for a great keyboard, here is an option for you. I recently bought the Casio CTK-2550 PPK 61-Key Premium Keyboard Pack with Stand, Headphones & Power Supply and I am truly pleased. I use to take piano lessons as a kid until I was in the 5th grade when I quit, due to people making fun of me saying it wasn't cool. Looking back, I wish I would have never quit. This keyboard however has re-sparked my love for music and I have begun to play again. If you are looking for a keyboard to learn how to play, this is the one! When I first started looking for a keyboard I knew I needed something affordable and compact since I am currently a college student, but I also did not want to sacrifice quality due to price. After looking and talking with my past music teachers, I narrowed it down to this Casio product. Cost Effective: If you want to get the most bang for your buck, but also need something that would benefit you as a beginner level pianist. The Casio CTK-2550 keyboard package is definitely the right choice for you, only costing $125! It is great that it comes with a quality set of headphones because you can play late at night and not disturb others. It's very beneficial by allowing you to set a beat in the background like a metronome to practice along with your sheet music. After having it for a few months I have begun to realize how great of a purchase it was. It was very affordable and produces quality sound with so many different options while you play. For example, you can select over 400 built-in tones to play with, as well as 100 auto-accompanied rhythms. Beginner Goals: This is truly the ideal product for a beginner because it is the perfect size which makes it easy to take on the go and set up anywhere to practice. As a beginner, it is truly important to practice and practice a lot! Since it is such a compacted keyboard it is extremely easy to pack up and travel with. This has been huge for me since I travel a lot between college and home. Being able to pack it up and fit it in my trunk to take home and practice is great. The piano itself is also very durable and has a very beneficial screen in the middle for beginners. The screen itself shows you what note you are playing and in which key. I'm an absolute beginner so take this review for what it's worth. After researching what keyboard qualities are recommended to begin learning, I wanted something with at least 61 touch sensitive keys. Received this today, and I must say that I like it. Has a lot of nice features which I have explored but just a few. A little more volume would be nice, but I will mic it so I guess that's not critical, especially at this price point. The stand is sturdy enough, and I also purchased a bench seat recommended (Samson... in which other reiveiwers pointed out it is not Samsung) but it is adequate and sturdy. Key action is good, and there are 3 levels of touch sensitivity - actually 2 levels plus Off. My only complaint at this time is the music stand. Being nothing but a formed rod and completely empty inside as well as not having a "catch" or platform to restrain the bottom, you cannot lay a single sheet of music on it without it falling through or off. Easily correctable, but Casio should have caught this in the design. All they needed to do were to add a couple of internal cross members and change the plastic "pitch" on the keyboard where the music sheet rests. All in all, however, this CTK-3500 is worth the money and I expect to be having a lot of fun with it over the years.
