  • Easy to work out improvisations
Color: Black Style: Keyboard
The default piano is a very well built piano with heavy strings as compared to my cfiii based Yamaha p120. Both have 64 note polyphony. The smaller keys here provide a diversion from a graded hammer platform more akin to spinner sized keys. However, this instrument is so portable you will want to test it out sitting on the ground in your lap while being immersed in Bach or Haydn. There was a quick readjustment of playing style between the two key systems, but responsiveness of the Casio key action while it might seem spongy, was helpful in working out new harmonies definitely letting you know where the fingers are, but also where they can go. The dynamic range of the source instrument has been carried over to the Casio system at a mere fraction of the cost of a mechanical piano. So you can try... In addition, a sustain pedal will favorably complement the key action and possibly enhance your baroque music. ... show more

  • Great Keyboard for a Novice!!
Color: Red Style: Keyboard
My oldest son is a very good guitar player. However, he wanted a keyboard to learn some rudimentary piano pieces. This Casio is exquisite for that purpose. The tone, clarity, and simplicity of this instrument make it extremely fun to play. My older son has begun to teach my daughter some basic melodies and she is only 5 years old!! So, although I was a bit apprehensive of purchasing a keyboard at this price point for my children, it has turned out to be a great investment. My kids have primarily played it plugged into a power source but the ability to use batteries makes it highly portable. ... show more

  • Holy Moly! Don't let the price deceive you.
Color: White Style: Keyboard
Love tbe portability and unique design of this instrument. Has an expensive look to it. The sounds are amazing for this price range. I donโ€™t miss weighted keys at all with this. The keys have a matte textured feel and they are touch sensitive. Lots of great hidden features on this keyboard. Tone layering, octave shifts, etc. If you want great sounds and arenโ€™t wanting drum beats and accompaniment then this is a great instrument. I love that you can use batteries and take it anywhere. Played it in my backyard and my neighbors were coming out to listen! Update: Loving this keyboard more and more as I delve into the full instruction manual (available on the casio website). I recommend printing for easy reference, as there are a lot of hidden features. I just discovered the hidden piano and organ tones, along with a piano/bass split. The organ tones are KILLER> if you love vintage sounding keys (wurly, rhodes, pipe, and gospel organs...even has a nod to vintage video game organ tones). My new favorite features are the simple record/loop feature where I can record one hand playing and then play the other hand over it. Super helpful for learning Bach pieces especially. This keyboard is exactly what I was looking for in that it has super impressive, high quality sounds/tones in an inexpensive keyboard. I love the styling on this. It is quite unique and premium looking with its fabric covered speakers. I think its great that it comes in 3 colors. I often find arranger keyboards a little cheezy and I really just want to play sheet music where I play my own accompaniament. The recorder feature allows me enough layering capability for my tastes, but if you prefer rhythms and arpeggiators I would go with the new Casiotone ct S500 or the cts1000v. Both of these are arranger keyboards and they have my attention currently, as they have the same updated soundchip but I still think the ct s1 has some sounds that are unique to it. ... show more

  • It IS portable
Color: Black Style: Keyboard
The build quality looks nice out of the box, with the cloth covering on the speaker really making it look like a quality instrument. It is light and easy to tote around by the handle. I picked up a carrying bag, and it would be very convenient to take it with you, so it meets my primary aim. Key wise, the keys are definitely not quite full size, and very light and springy compared to a real piano, or good fully weighted digital piano. Obviously, fully weighted keys would interfere with portability, so there's a trade off. The speakers are audible enough to fill a small room, but you wouldn't want to be doing much of a stage performance with this. The bass in particular is a little small and doesn't really move enough air to affect you the way a real piano would. My main piano is a Donner DDP-90, which is quite a bit spendier and very heavy, so maybe it isn't fair of me to be disappointed in comparison. For the price, you probably aren't going to do much better for a playable piano that you can take on the go ... show more
